Good service, decent food, and nice rooms. Although really, the thing that matters on a trip to the Mara is your guide. But this is definitely a nice place to stay. They have a "wild hyena feeding" once a night, which is kind of interesting but also a little odd. A domestic cat stole some fo the food from the hyenas, who were very scared to come out of the bushes. Cool place though!

I agree with the positive reviews here. Need to emphasize the amazing staff at this lodge. Just one example: when we ran into a tough problem, Josephat, the night manager left his supper to solve it instantly. This was typical of every staff member. Highest recommendation!

Couldn't have asked for a better lodge. The food was excellent with a wide variety to suit every taste. The staff are attentive. Being inside the Masai mara only 5 minutes to see the wild animals. We manged 4 of the big 5 on the first safari. A marvellous start to our holiday

We were a group of 4 families (with children) stayed at the Mara Sopa Lodge for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very hospitable people and they serve good food (continental,Indian, swahili etc) .The rooms were comfortable (specially the beds). The zebras come grazing almost to the doorstep in the evenings which is a unique experience.

Wow! Absolutely my favourite Sopa of the three we stayed in (Amboseli and Lake Naivasha being the others). An absolutely fabulous location high up in the hills, but within the Masai Mara Reserve) with absolutely stunning views from the pool and the restaurant.
We had a large room (2 double beds) which were surrounded by a mosquito net curtain and a large bathroom. We also had a balcony with a couple of easy chairs and an internal sitting area.
The food was the best we had in any of the Sopas. We were lucky enough to be there on a night with an african theme in the restaurant and this was probably the best food we ate all of the time we were on holiday- even if I did confuse the dessert with the main course! We were then treated to some Massai dancing to celebrate a guest's birthday. This is normally something I'd hate as being too touristy, but it was really good.
We even managed a couple of hours by the pool one afternoon, which was about our only chance to relax in a packed safari. I didn't go into the pool, but by all accounts it was freezing!
We travelled in a group with someone who occassionally needed to use a wheelchair. There were a couple of steps into the restaurant and the staff built two wooden ramps to help him get into it, even though we were only there for two nights - you can't ask for much better customer service than that!
The absolute highlight of the holiday was the dawn balloon trip over the Masai Mara. It meant a really early start (a 0430 wake up all call), but it was worth both that and the cost.

This is a wonderful place to stay. The staff are lovely, James makes a wicked cocktail he also feeds the Hyenas! The food is lovely and plentiful as with all the sopa lodges! Our room was large comfortable and clean. The grounds are lovely to walk round and relax in and the pool and balcony seating area are also nice places to relax in. We saw lots of wildlife in the Maasai Mara.
