“Amazing Experience in the Middle of the Jungle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

The porini mara camps situated in Oi Kinyei Conservancy is The Perfect Place to have the feel of the Wilderness. Here, it seems that everything is perfact. The Most Cooperative staff, the wilderness around you, the weather in August everything. The Camp Manager "Jimmy", wow....what a man he is...the way he manages and fulfils the requirement of the guest, I have no words...You ask for a tea (Masala Tea - As we Indians Prefer) with hot water at 5:00 am in the morning, he makes sure that his staff wakes you up with all requested stuff sharp at 5:00am. One interesting thing, I want to share with you. The Chef doesn't have the word "NO" is his dictionary. One, nice evening on 9th of August, 2014; it was raining so game drive wasn’t possible due to overcast and rain. We were on camp, we were having a tea in excellent weather, and we just asked chef whether he knows to make “Bhajiya or Pakora”. He was bit hesitant to say no, so he requested what are the ingredients, my wife and my friend’s wife just described the recipe. In no time Jimmy permitted them (my wife and my friend’s wife) to use the kitchen to show the chef how to prepare “Veg. Pakora”. After, a while, the chef decided to try his way and came up with nice chilly Pakora. This kind of approach made our evening most memorable – In The Middle of the Jungle, Evening Rain, Masala Tea, Pakora….wow. The camps are well maintained. The staffs are too good; we went with young as well as teenage kids. There is no issue at all. In the night you can feel the presence of animals around your tents, Zebras, Impalas, Monkeys, roar of lions etc. A perfect place to enjoy wilderness. Jimmy and his team - you people are the best……..

The Porini Mara camps set up in the Ol Kinyei convervancy is an ideal place to experience the wilderness and enjoy the excellent wild life without hinderance of any outside vehicles. The tents are very good with all the facilities you require. Jimmy, the camp manager and his team are doing a great work. They donot have the word "no" in their dictionary. Being vegetarians, we didn;t had any problems whatsoever. Its really unbelievable the way they are managing the camps in the wild. You require hot water at 5.00 am with tea and coffee. It's available sharp at 5.30 am.
We spent the best part of our Kenya tour in the Mara Porini Camps. Thanks to Jimmy and his team. The experience, an unforgettable one. At night you can hear and feel the wild animals around your tents. Wow ! what a thrilling experience.
We went with young children and teenage daughters. Nothing to worry about anything.
The game drives and the guide / driver were very good. One the first day itself we could see the cheetah at 10 feet distance, only 5 min drive from the camps. Same day, cheetah with her 5 cubs on a kill. The conservancy is teeming with wild life to enjoy.
Would definately go again without any second thought.

A great camp, great staff, great food. The conservancy has excellent wildlife, and a short drive into the Mara proper. If you have time and inkling, be sure to do the nature walk. We did this trip with our young children (6 and 9) and I highly recommend it. The camp staff were exceedingly nice to our little guys.

Porini Mara facilities are excellent. The Masai team who took care of me and my best friend were top notched. As two women traveling alone we felt so protected by the team both in the camps and out during our morning and evening game drives. The facilities rival any lodge I've ever visited and labeling it a rustic tent far environment, surely understates the Porini Mara experience. Gamewatchers cared for all arraignments for us from our touch down in Nairobi to our return flight home from Kenya. I have already recommended the Gamewatcher's team to friend planning to travel to Kenya, and plan on return trip of my own in the future.

This was the second Porini Camp we stayed in and we just loved the setting in amongst the trees and close to the pretty water hole. The game drives with Wilson were a highlight through pretty bush, stony fields and hilltop settings. The experience in a private conservancy was just amazing it felt like you were the only people in the whole of the Mara compared with the Mara Reserve where there could be 30 or more vans at a time if there was an animal sighting. Our guide Wilson was just brilliant at finding and spotting wildlife and our highlight was a female Cheetah with 4 cubs who we watched make a kill of a Thompsons Gazelle. Certainly bought the whole 'circle of life' into real live time.
Another highlight - G&T's watching the sunset waiting for the lions. Wilson pours a mean one!
The tents are really comfortable with a kingsize and single bed, ensuite bathroom with flush toilet and the staff were always there with a hot bucket for the shower.
The food was excellent - it never ceased to amaze us how they produced such gourmet 3 course meals from the camp kitchen.
Just a couple of tips - there are power points in the administration tent for charging phones etc or a portable hair dryer.
Washing powder is provided for washing - it was cold morning and night and I would advise more than one pair or long trousers for this time of year and warm fleece or jacket.

Room Tip: The tents are in a circle so all are good.

This was my fifth time visiting Mara and I have always stayed with Porini camps because they offer a unique combination of things that no other camp in Mara offers. They have an excellent company called game watchers that plans your trip from the minute you land in Nairobi to your flight back home. Hildy was extremely helpful.Their arrangements are always impeccable from the guys who pick you up from the airport and take you to the hotel, then drop you to your domestics flights within Kenya and finally the stay at Porini camps where everything you think of is taken care of. I love their eco friendly approach to tourism and the fact that they are the original camps that spearheaded the conservancy approach to tourism in Africa. The conservancies benefits the community and are the greatest effort towards wild life conservation. The experience of a game drive in a conservancy is unparalleled because of the lack of crowds of cars and people and also the landscape which is spectacular. Porini camps have the best guides and are situated in the best locations in Mara. What I love about Mara Porini is the unbelievably beautiful acacia woodwinds lands. I can never visit mara and not visit Mara Porini. I always love seeing my friends, Ben and Tippa. Chloe the manager arranged a marvelous bush dinner for us . Overall two thumbs up!!

This was our second stay via Game Watchers itinerary and well worthwhile because we immediately understood the difference when we came across a cheetah mother with five cubs. If this had been in the national park within 5 minutes 20 or so trucks would have descended on the team and totally interrupted her hunt which resulted with a kill to feed her offspring. This was confirmed the next day in our trip to National park in Masai Mara where in the afternoon a leopard was spotted and immediately there were 25 vehicles straining to get close as they have to stay on the track. My belief now is that a mother with clubs would be very hassled. The personal service and keen interest in our well being was always evident along with great food and superior location.

Room Tip: This is where you really get up close and personal with the animals without the crowds. I would reco...
