“Amazing Amazing Amaing”
Reviewed 6 June 2012

We spent two nights at the Royal Mara and honestly had the most amazing time.
The rooms are excellent with the best bed ever plenty of space, hot water and a fully flushing toilet you would never think you are in a tent!
The lodge itself is based right beside the mara river, by day you can watch the hippos wallowing in the river and by night you can hear them which reminds you how close to nature you are.
The food at the lodge is fantastic and my only complaint would be that there was too much of it and as it was so nice I had to eat it all of course!! I am a vegetarian and they catered for my dietary needs with the most delicious and creative dishes.
The staff at the lodge were also fantastic everyone from our waiter, housekeeper, security guards and the game driver could not do enough for us. It's true when they say Kenyans are the nicest people! The hospitality was great and they genuinely just wanted us to have a great time.
On safari we saw 3 of the big five on our first game drive. We went at the end of the rainy season so was not expecting much but out driver Jeffery was excellent at spotting the animals and so knowledgable about the animals and their habits. We had breakfast in the middle of the Mara which was a truly memorable experience.
I cannnot praise the Royal Mara enough. I have travelled many places and stayed in many hotels and also worked in the travel industry myself. I would recommend this hotel to anyone with out hesitation.

The attention to detail food & service was first class. This is the best lodge we have ever stayed at and the best Safari ever. If you want to be well looked after and have a great Safari then I would recommend that you book to stay at this Lodge it is faultless and We're going back next year and I can't wait I'm planing to stay for a bit longer its that good. We booked our trip through JT Safais and as always JT and his team were first class.

We have just returned from our second visit to The Royal Mara Safari Lodge. The first being in February 2011 for 4 nights and this time April 2012 for 5 nights. Words just can't describe the wonderful experience you will have here. Starting with the fantastic accommodation that has the most wonderful views across The Mara River. Here you can sit and watch the wildlife including Hippos and Crocs and animals on the opposite bank. How The Royal Mara serve such tasty meals is simply credit to the amazing chef's there. Huge breakfast where you can have pretty much anything, a three course lunch followed by a five course evening meal. The food has got to be the best we've ever had anywhere. All the staff here are fantastic and George and his team will do everything possible to ensure that you have the perfect experience. Due to it's location the game drives here are amazing. Over the course of both visits we have seen so much wildlife, far too many to list from Bush-babies to the elusive Leopard. The scenery is also stunning with wonderful sunsets and sunrises and incredible views across the savannah. There are also bush walks, bush breakfasts and bush lunches available which all add to the experience. Thank you all for yet again a dream come true. We will be back. Can't imagine going anywhere else in Kenya now, just perfect. Special thanks to the lovely George Jr, Wilson, Jeffery, William, Reagan and Steven. We can't wait to return. Love Michael & Bev

Room Tip: Only 8 rooms, all equally as good.

we stayed at the royal mara in january 2012 and having been on many safaris to many parks we can honestly say this is the best lodge we have had the privilege to stay in. from the moment we landed to the moment we had to leave nothing was to much trouble. the management, staff and security were all attentive to our every need, from the early morning tea or coffee right up until we wanted to retire the hole experience was exceptional. we booked our safari through jt safaris and we can not recommend them enough, please find a link at the end of the review. thank you to everyone at the royal mara and we hope we can visit Paradise again.

We booked a 3 day 2 night safari at the Royal Mara via Julius Thuvi of Julius T Safaris www.juliustsafaris.com and it was amazing. The whole trip was just wonderful! The Royal Mara Lodge was outstanding and George Jr. was an excellent host. He was very nice and very interesting and the food and accommodations were just prefect. I would recommend Julius Thuvi and the Royal Mara Lodge if you are interested in a five star experience. The whole trip was beyond our expectations. The food and the amount of animals we saw made for the prefect safari. George Sr. should be very proud of his son as he was in Nairobi and left George Jr. in charge and he wasn't missed at all. I don't say that to be unkind but George Jr. makes you so comfortable that I thought he was part of my family when I left the lodge. Also, our plane was delayed for a number of hours and he suggested to our wonderful driver that we should go on another game drive which we just a great way to pass away the time before we departed for Nairobi. Overall, the whole experience was just beyond words to explain and we are now planning our next visit except this time it will be a lot longer than 3 days.

Room Tip: All the rooms were exceptional and on the river.

We cannot describe how this whole experience was so much more than expected. We spent 2 nights here and would love to come again. Thanks to George jr, James and Reagan for helping us to see so many animals and for all the knowledge they gave us. The rooms and food were excellent and we loved the bush lunch when we arrived. The hippos in the river alongside the camp were fascinating to watch and it was then amazing to watch them on our night drive, trudging around the savannah. They looked so different out of the water.

James managed to find us plenty of lions and elephants, cheetahs and on our last drive even two leopards. We have some fantastic photos. Everyone should go at least once in a lifetime as nothing prepares you for the abundance of wild life, the thousands of zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, etc out on the plain. Even the baby hyenas were cute!

Room Tip: All rooms good, loved the huge 4 poster!

My experience of Royal Mara was more than i ever expected. I booked via Bruno Safari's (separate review). I had been followingall the reviews of the Royal Mara and decided that this place just had to be visited, at no point in my 3 days 2 night stay was I ever disappointed. We were met at the airstrp by Geoffrey who quickly transfered us to our CAMP. A briefing was given by the fabulous George Jnr who told us some safety issues and quickly arranged our luggauge to be taken to our TENTS. Wow when the door was opened I was in awe of the beautiful furniture and the view of the river (room 2 Tembo). Two very comfortable sunlougers on our deck and table and chairs. Our bed was probably one of the largest I have ever seen. Mark, our room attendant asked if he could get any drinks for us, and came back with two lovely cool bottles of beer. At 1 o'clock we had to meet at reception to be taken out for lunch. To have a lovely T bone steak cooked to order whilst taking in the views of the savanah is a memory that will last a lifetime. After lunch it was back to the camp for a little rest before our first early evening safari. We were allocated our driver at this time, and we were lucky to have the fabulous Julius who seems to know exactly where to look for the big cats, on our first evening we saw lions and the leopard, how lucky.
Back to the camp at 6.30 Mark brought us a welcoming pot of tea before we had a quick shower in time for dinner. How the chefs manage to produce such lovely food is beyond me! Unfortunately we had just been served our soup when we had the 2 minute warning, and quickly the tables were lifted under cover before the heavy rain and storm started. Transport was arranged back to our tents on this evening as the rain never stopped. Lights out at 10.30 in the evening but you do have back up lighting and a torch.
At 6am Mark woke us with another pot of tea before our early morning game drive, where we saw Elephant, lions, Leopard and a Cheetah very cleverly camouflaged within the long grass. At 9am we were back at the camp for breakfast alongside the riverbank.
After breakfast we had arranged with another couple to visit a Masai village and we had the lovely Simon to drive us over to village, this is an eye opener and worth the extra money. Back at camp luch was set up on the riverbank, before our afternoon game drive.
On our last morning, unfortunately because of heavy rains again the evening before, it was difficult to get around in the jeep and we did get stuck, but this did add to the fun. After breakfast we had arranged to do the walking safari, once again something you shouldn't miss.
To sum this place up, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, the staff go over and above the call of duty and would return if ever I am lucky enough to have my third visit to Kenya.

Room Tip: Take a rain coat and warm clothing. All the tents are beautiful.
