From the friendly staff to the luxurious tents, the infinity pool overlooking the park and the hot water bottles warming the bed at night, snuck in while we were at dinner, our visit was a dream come true. And then there are the animals - our driver, Protus, did an incredible job of coordinating with other drivers from the camp and using his deep local knowledge to make sure we had a tremendous safari experience. This camp is very professionally run and has great facilities and an excellent staff. We also had the benefit of the experience of close friends who had lived at the camp for the year prior to our visit, and through them we learned that Kichwa and its staff are very committed to good, sustainable safari practices, an added bonus.

Only downside: don't expect to get on the internet much while at Kichwa. But you'll be having enough fun that you won't want to anyway.

More than we ever expected! Stayed in 2 luxury tents with our teenage daughters. Our guide, Wilson, was the best. We saw a river crossing during the migration of over 100,000 animals! Awe inspiring!! Don't miss the walking safari! Up close and personal! Definitely recommend!!!!

This place was like no other. The service was outstanding. The safari was unbelievable. The tents were so cool. I had to keep pinching myself. I felt like I was in a movie. It couldn't have been more perfect. Our family of 5 said it was the best trip ever!

Kichwa Tembo hits all the right notes for anything and everything you could want from a luxury safari. Starting from the flight in to their private airstrip to the incredible personal attention received from each staff member, we were highly impressed. On top of that in April 2012 they were running a promotion for stay 2 nights and get the 3rd night free as well as free game walk's and night drives (although one negative is that our driver never would take us out on a night drive as he always claimed it was too wet, even if there was just a drizzle outside).

Over three days we ended up doing three serious game drives (4-6 hours each time) and saw absolutely everything (except for rhinos). Saw lions after lions...at one time witnessing about 4 lionesses, 10 cubs and one male lion all crowding together in the tall grass from the cold rain. The park was just overflowing with game life and you couldn't go two feet without seeing something.

The food was excellent and our butler Joshua was a star for waking us up every morning with a gentle hello and a tray of hot coffee and biscuits.

If you do go you MUST take a game walk with the Maasai guide Johnston. He is a fantastic fellow: thoroughly entertaining, fully of knowledge and fun to be around.

Everything at the camp is first class. The swimming pool has an amazing view looking out over the Mara; the safari vehicles were better than anything we say in the park and the standard luxury tent was plenty luxurious. The showers were awesome, incredibly powerful and warm. All the drinks were reasonably priced and all meals, game drives, coffees, etc. were included in the price of trip. First class all around.

When we booked at Kichwa Tembo, we were a bit worried about the choice we had made but our stay there exceeded our expectations and we are already looking to book forJuly / August during the migration period. From our butler to the driver, everyone was extremely happy to host us.

Pros:
1) Exceptional Service, friendly and very helpful staff. They took great care of our vegetarian needs.
2) Clean camp and very safe.
3) Camp location is strategic for balloon safaris and game drives. We saw everything apart from Rhinos!
4) Did I already say exceptional service?!!

Cons:
1) None really except if you're used to having a huge choice during meals then you may be somewhat disappointed but whatever they prepare is delicious and if you have any special requests, they would be happy to deliver.

If you're looking for luxury, you may want to stay at their Bateleur camp.

All in all, we would highly recommend staying at either of their camps. The service is just exceptional.

Note: The standard tents do not have any sockets so you need to charge all your electricals in the bar area.

Room Tip: We stayed in the standard tent no. 9 which faces the Mara plains and is not far from the reception...

July 2011 I had organized a group trip that could have only taken place with the fabulous help of Emma Harrop from Go2Africa.com. She had recommended and booked my group into the fly-out safari offered through &Beyond at the Kichwa Tembo tented camp. People of my group felt like they were in a movie as the airplane approached the landing strip and the wildlife scattered. Our guide Sophie, was the best and very knowledgeable. After our initial jeep trek and viewing we arrived in the lap of luxury at the awesome Kichwa Tembo camp. The accommodations were very comfortable, the bed - dreamy and featured great showers! We all enjoyed the entertainment in the evenings. In my opinion, the food was delicious and fresh, plus the dining experience all took place in a very serene outdoor setting. The staff were super nice and attentive - everyone looked forward to our early morning coffee or cocoa brought to our tents. The daily game drives took us out to the Garden of Eden (actually the Masai Mara) We saw every animal, the start of the migration and we even saw "blood" from a recent kill. What more could you ask for?!? In short everyone wants to return and I wouldn't think of planning another trip to anywhere on the continent of Africa without our Emma Harrop. She was completely attentive to all details and made great suggestions on what to do in Nairobi and if some of us wanted to extend our stay. She is very informative and quick to reply to all questions and concerns. For me - it is burned into my memory with endless smiles and contented sighs. There is no question, I'll be back.

Room Tip: All rooms are good - some were a bit on the warm side, but what I wanted to advise is if you don'...

This is our 3rd visit in recent years, having also stayed at other camps in Mara. The fact we have returned here and brought family and friends should speak volumes in terms of our thoughts on the camp. The value is great (this year was the first in off peak and the value was even better!). The staff were and have been very welcoming, I 'd like to say a big thank you to Ester for her hospitality.
But for me the big reason for coming back and back to the Mara is the wildlife which in the Mara triangle is fantastic and our guide Benedict once again spend 3 days ensuring the family and especially the kids had a fulfilling experience.
I know it's hard to decide where to stay in the Mara but you can't (in my opinion) go wrong here.
