“Wonderful value and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2008

Having been to the area before on our return we knew we wanted to book our safaris through the locals and not the Hotel Having stayed At the African Safari Club Flamingo Hotel on the Shanzu tourist road last year we had seen the office of Wildebeest Concepts situated next to the Safari inn.
We were greated by Charles who runs the office and told him we wanted to go to the Masi Mara. He gave us options on lodges and the number of nights. We chose a 3 Day/ 2 Night stay at the Mara Hippo. The price we were paid was £240 each including park fees. This was less than half the quoted Hotel price for the same trip.
The day before departure we were given our itinerary by Charles and exactly what Charles told us happened, from the moment we were picked up from the Hotel to the momement we returned three days later.
We had chosen to fly to the Mara hippo camp, we flew from Mombassa airport with Mombassa Air Safaris
DAY 1 We were collected as promised at 6.30am taken to the airport for our 8.00 flight and were collected at the Airstrip in the Mara by our guide Dan at 10.30 and taken on a full day game drive had a picknick lunch in the Mara arriving at camp at 5.30. Food and accommodation excellent.
DAY 2. Again full day game drive leaving at 7.30 after breakfast lunch in the Mara arriving back at camp at 5.30.
DAY 3 started early game drive from 6.00-9.30 then breakfast before leaving at 11.00 and heading back to the airstrip for the flight back to Mombassa.
We got more than we could every have expected for what we paid.
I would not hesitate to book again with Wildebeest Concepts and infact did book another 1 night Safari to Tasavo East staying at the Voi Lodge. Again What Charles Promised was delivered. The Voi Lodge is out of this world. Far better than the Crocodile camp stayed in last year here with Asc.
Charles and all at Wildebeest were far more knowledgeable and professional than the Staff in The Tourist Office at the Hotel and would tell anyone coming to the area to book any trips through the locals and not the hotel. I returned to Kenya to visit the Masi Mara and Was not disapointed by it seeing all the big five this wondeful experience was down in no small part to Charles and all conected to Wildebeest.
So call in and book and tell Charles Andrew and Julie sent you

“Excellent trips and value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2008

Because the trips and safaris at the hotel were very expensive and we wanted our money to go to the locals rather than the European hotel we shopped around. The Wildebeest office is situated next to the Safari Inn, opposite the Intercontinental Hotel at Shanzu. The staff were very friendly and helpful and prices quoted for trips and safaris are negotiable (as is everything in Kenya!)
We dealt with Alex who went the extra mile to ensure we had great trips and saw everything we wanted - email musee2009@yahoo.com
One of the trips was the bush tour which entailed visits to three totally different villages (all within 15 miles of the hotel). We were taken by taxi with Alex as guide. Both Alex and the driver were very informative and knowledgeable. The first village was Shanzu and we were shown around Shanzu Village school - mainly a series of huts with holes in the walls for windows as there was no electricity. The teachers are all volunteers and the headmaster explained the difficulties children from poor families face within the education system in Kenya. We were treated to a song from each of the classrooms on our tour!
The second village was Vipingo, a very green and almost self sufficient one where the various medicinal plants were explained to us, and we tasted the local coconut wine (not really to our taste!) We were then shown the vast sisal plantations surrounding the village.
The final village was Mtwapa where most of the hotel staff live. Here we were treated to a traditional dance, and were invited to join in. The whole trip was excellent and I would highly recommend Alex and Wildebeest for value and an unforgettable experience.
