“Good service, nice beach, little dated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 October 2012

Stayed here for long weekend. Not far from Mombasa airport. On arrival the staff are very attentive and helpful. A nice way to start your holiday. Good standard hotel, very clean and green. We stayed in the beach view rooms which were nice but a little dated. There is a fridge, tea and coffe facilities and free drinking water. We went all inclusive which is well worth the extra cost - the staff regularly ask if you want a drink when you are sunbathing by the pool and the local beer is fine - Tusker. The wine is also ok. We are easily pleased with food and there was plenty on offer (Italian, indian etc) and it was adequate. The lawns and pools are very nice and there is an option of having a lively pool or a relaxing pool. Good if you want a relaxing (or not relaxing) holiday. The beach is also very nice and when the tide is in it is 'exclusive'. Some of the hawkers can be a pain but generally they are not too bad and there are security guards at hand to move them on if they become too persistent. If you plan on going into town I suggest you get the details of a good taxi at the airport and use the taxi to ferry you around the sights. it is much cheaper and more flexible than using organised tours. Just agree the price beforehand. In terms of additional activities - lots of watersports inc. kayaking, diving and sailing. The gym is closed and we used the one next door for an additional cost - this should have been noted on the website. make sure you visit Fort Jesus - well worth the journey. Good luck!

Room Tip: Go for the sea view. Well worth the additional cost.

We stayed here after 7 days safari staying in Sarova Hotels in Samburu, Lake Nakaru and Masai Mara, arrived very tired after long journey, our first impression not good when given a very discoloured cold towel on arrival. Then taken to our room - soooo disappointed, had upgraded for sea view (view was excellent and would recommend doing if you stay here) but the room itself was shabby, in need of some renovation, stains on the curtains and around bottom vallance sheet and net curtains to balcony and mosquito net also dirty (we did mention this twice throughout our stay but only the mosquito net was changed) It was a small room with dingy bathroom, didn't impress us, especially after being totally swept off our feet by the quality and cleanliness of the Sarova hotels. - However, apart from the disappointment with the room, we enjoyed our relaxing week here, staff are great, friendly and helpful, Peter the cook looked after our coeliac diet very well, cooking us specials each lunchtime and evening. The animation team worked hard at day time activities, no pressure to join in, also evening entertainment, would have liked more of the live band who were excellent, fabulous female vocalists. We did venture on the the beach but to avoid the nuisance vendors had to go early mornings and evenings, after they had left their "posts" Talking to others staying here 30/9-8/10, all were saying the same thing, the hotel rooms are in need of renovating.

Room Tip: Would upgrade to sea view, ours was 4311 and had great view over infinity pool, but as I said, was s...

We had a wonderful stay for 3 nights in our all-inclusive superior sea view cabin.

Pros:
- great view and room
- friendly, helpful staff
- descent food at the buffet
- 50% off at the excellent seafood restaurant, tasty food and charming live band
- Italian restaurant pool-side had a nice atmosphere and was included
- lots of different pools and right next to the beach
- night shows were mildly entertaining

Cons:
- two times there was no water at all, but a call to the front desk got it fixed
- rather salty water for the shower
- limited drink list for all-inclusive
- harassment by "beachboys" on the shore, but a quick word with security and we were protected
- poor email communications: my request for an airport transfer went largely unanswered

Returned home 9th Oct after a 2 week stay at the Voyager. From begining to end, the staff at this hotel could not have done more. Friendly, smiling, helpful - I have never received this sort of service anywhere else! We had a problem with our safe which wasn't resolved until the second day and because of our 'inconvenience and distress' they waived the charge!

We had booked a superior sea view room - well worth the supplement as the view was so beautiful and it was lovely to go to sleep listening to the sea! A few reviews state that the rooms are in need of updating; ours was fine - spotlessly clean, plenty of hot water, (toilet sometimes not flushing well) and I didn't find the water salty at all. My only negatives are, not enough drawer space and the bed was very hard.

The food was good and varied - I will try most things but am a bit fussy about meat (at home as well as abroad) so I do tend to go for pasta or the veggie option. There is a limit to the amount of curry I can eat! Bit more veggie variety please! Service was excellent. Salads particularly good - very fresh.

The entertainment was very good - having been disappointed in the past with 'in-house' entertainment this was a pleasant surprise. Also, a live band and acrobats were brought in from Mombasa - very entertaining!

We tended to round our evening off at the lookout bar - amazing setting.

Highly recommend the glass bottom boat trip - Mohammed our guide was extremely knowledgeable and the snorkelling superb.

We booked our safari with JT (separate review) - if you want a safari, he's your man!

Spent our relaxing time at the infinity pool to take advantage of the sea breeze - lovely spot and thanks to Margaret we were kept well supplied with drinks!

The sea was as warm as a bath - you just have to learn how to run the gauntlet with the beach sellers. If you want to buy HAGGLE - you will get a bargain.

We booked with First Choice/Thomson and booked a couple of trips (Fort Jesus by night and Swahili Blue) with them as JT didn't run the ones we wanted. I have to say that although we had a good time on both we felt that they were not good value for the amount we paid. I will be contacting Thomsons re this.

As for the 'ladies of the night' we were aware that there was a number of ageing men with very young Kenyan women - they kept to themselves and were not a problem for us. I can see however that it will be a problem for some guests.

Feel free to take a walk outside the resort - we walked to the 'mall' and felt perfectly safe.

Overall, an excellent hotel - I would stay there again and would recommend it.

Room Tip: We had room 4307 - lovely view and the sound of the sea!

My Kenyan wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in May this year, we just wanted a comfortable place to relax and visit friends as we had been to Mombasa before and already done safaris etc. We booked an ocean view apartment. On arrival we decided to ask for another one as we were not given an upper floor one as we had requested. This was fixed up quickly but then we found we had no hot water. After asking reception and getting no attention we finally asked a passing housemaid who sent a technician round who discovered somebody had been doing some maintenance on our heater and simply not turned it back on again..6 hours later. thank God we asked! Apart from this our stay was superb. We took the all inclusive package and never had to buy a single drink or meal the whole time we were there. The food was excellent and the nightly entertainment was really good and a high standard. The staff were so friendly too. The beach boys were of course irritating, but having a Kenyan wife is a distinct advantage as they didn't know how to approach us! Being May our weather wasn't that great but the resort made up for it. All in all a great stay and would recommend it.

Room Tip: If you book an ocean view room, get a 1st floor. You will then have your own private balcony. If you...

What can i say????
Every thing was perfect for hubbie and me a beautifull stay there for 2 weeks nothing to complain about at all.
except this word of warning if u are going to be staying in a superior room becarefull about the mini fridge as for every think in the fridge u do have to paid for also the mini size pringals at 200shilling for it also u do have to pay for the wine so dont say u havnt been warned.
also if u are haveing a drink at the harbour bar thats the bar near to where the shows are becarefull if one of the bar waiters are going to be getting ur drink for u if u r all inclusive. as they will charge u for ur drinks at full price as we had to end up paying for our drinks there 800 shilling and we where all inclusive we where shocked when we got the bill for thoses drinks if the bar tender does ask u for ur room number then u are going to be billed for those drinks or anything else.
the rooms are nice be carefull again if u are going to be haveing a shower as u would before going for ur evening meal make sure that u do have towls in the bathroom or u will be left soaking wet for about 15 mins before u will get someone to come with towels for u i thought this was a bit much for a superior room sorry to the housekeepers not ur fault i do blame the hotel for this problem as they really should have enough towels for there guests.
otherwise the hotel was perfect .
As for the staff bril bril bril to every one of them and they work to hard.so jambo to every one
and big cuddles to margaret who brings all those drink to the guest back and forwards all day to the quiet and games pools godbless u lovely also to emmily house keeper who attended to our room which was 1223 from 11of september to the 25 2012 big thanks emmily u took good care of us and big kiss to ur wee baby and hope that she enjoyed playing with the bubbles.
as for the boys on the beach YES they can be a pain but we did know what we where in for as we had been to Gambia and its the same there so nothing new to us so we knew how to handle them which was a good thing to know before u go sort of thing but becarefull of a boy on the beach his name steven well thats the name that he gave to us .
he will rip u off he will ask u if u want to go to the place like a zoo where u feed the animals he will except a price on the beech with u but when it comes to the next day when he picks u up he will have put up the prices much more than the hotel prices so u would be better of going with the hotel than with him it will be much cheaper for u and u know for sure u will be going and not let down and left standing.
As for the safari we did go for 3 days 2 night it was bril bril bril honestly and we did go with Mustafa k. Mwdura he is on the beach with Mr Mohamod very nice gentlemen and they are very ture to there word please beleave me we had a fantastic safari with them our driver name was papa beautifull man very jokey all the timeas son as he knows that the animals are going to be at a place he is straight on it and we do see i was able to take really some beautifull photos of some of the animals that we did see while there with him but as u know the animals just can not be all in the one place at the same time the safari parks are so so so big and they are all over it and in some place that we just can not get into so dont be sad if u cant see them all or all of the big five. just be greatfull of what u have seen i was and cant wait to do it all again but in a differnet part of africa next time so no i will not be coming back to kenya. it was nice and i enjoy it all but i have seen it now so i am off to another part of africa.
So jambo to everyone that works in the voyager and hope for u all to keep up the good work that u al do there.

Room Tip: we had superior room 1223 garden view room. but i would have said it was superior garden and sea vi...
