“not a hotel, not even a hostel”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2012

First of all they even do not try to pretend that they care about customers - we were waiting ages to check in and if not the fact that we have already paid, for sure I would prefer to go and find another hotel. We were given a twin room next to the reception (although we booked a double room, but they could not speak any english at the receptions, we were tired, so finally gave up...), which was very noisy day and night. In the morning (like 7.00am?) they gave someone else a key to our room - fortunatelly I used a door chain as did not feel very secure. Not mention that when we came back in the evening, we found a few call-girls buisness cards, which says a lot about this 'hotel'...

Room Tip: if you really have to stay in this 'hotel' chose a room on a higher floor

well it's noisy to say the least. Only stayed here 3 nights as it is in a good area for the forbidden city tiennamen sq etc. The beds were like concrete, the bathroom flooded after each shower, and I wanted to "kill" the inconsiderate staff who never shut up at night, not even talking in hushed voices either! Hotel rooms dated in need of serious upgrade. No wifi.

Room Tip: dont choose 1st floor, higher up the better away from staff

Arriving to this hotel around 2:30AM after a long flight, we seemed to disrupt the staff from sleeping which was awkward. Our room was clean enough and the hotel was close enough to everything, which was great. We had a room on the bottom floor, with a window that seemed to look out to the apartment building beside the hotel, where we constantly heard people chatting and spitting. On our last night, it seemed imperative for a group of men to stand around our window and hammer a blue door (that they had leaned up against our window) at 6:30AM. My efforts to ask them nicely to keep quiet were met with laughter and the hotel didn't understand what I was saying. I'm sure you can find a better place to stay.

Our room was located on the ground floor, right next to the reception (as most of their duble bed rooms are) and had no window. Since there was no sound proofing what so ever between the door and the corridor it sounded like people were standing in our room (though they were standing in the corridor). The room was extremely small, the bed was hard and the water in the shower was either cold or boiling hot... We were also given stained towels that they tried to charge us for when checking out (we refused to pay). I would never stay in this hotel again, and unless you like to have chinese people screaming outside your door at 5 AM in the morning, hard beds and dirt, I don't think you should stay there either...

The issues start with this place the second you walk in- 1) reception is the least friendly we've endured yet in our WORLD tour! That's saying a lot, we've been at over 30 +hotels so far! 2) All the rooms are smoked in regardless of what they say. We moved 3 x's and finally gave up because they all smelt of cigarette smoke, which I'm allergic to. 3) When switching to one of the rooms for a "non-smoking" room the maid came banging on our new room telling us to pay for the condom we used?!! huh?! My Husband tried explaining that NO, we didn't use their condom they offer guests, and ended up having to go down stairs and argue with them for 15 minutes until they gave up. 4) 3 out of 4 times we would leave for the day when we'd return our key wouldn't work and it was because they shut it off. Then you have to go down stairs and they say "staying for another night?!" YES! that's why we're here and haven't checked out at 7pm!!

I could go on and on, but you should get the picture by now and I've wasted enough of my life on this place! You're better off staying right down the road at Dreams Travel ! We had already booked our place but because our hotel was so awful we ended up booking our great wall tour at Dreams travel with Michael (really nice guy, great English which is hard to find in China) and we wished we would have stayed there instead!

Room Tip: Don't stay here

The rooms are average, very small for two single beds. The bathroom are not very tidy, but livable. There is a TV but no fridge in the room.
Major plus: very convenient to travel from the hotel to the attractions
Major minus: the staff don't speak a single word of english
Everything else is managable. Good alternative for a hostel for young budget travellers like us.

What do you expect when you pay a cheap hotel? Well... this. If you are looking for best value for the money you pay, this is not the case. You get the exact quality you pay, and this means, little. The rooms all smelled moist, we were 10 people and rented 5 rooms and they all smelled. The restaurant is awful (do not ever try it!!). The staff only speaks mandarin and they will not make the slightest effort to understand you, actually asking directions or asking anything in the front desk was a total headache. Cleanliness is all right and the good location is makes this hotel work.
