“Excellent, but small rooms.”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Overall a great hotel. Staff was friendly and were willing to show us what the rooms looked like. The rooms were clean and well designed. However they were a little small, but you'll get used to it after a night or two.
The hotel has a lot of security redundancies. You have to swipe your room card to get to floors 3 and 4 on the elevator, you have to swipe it to plain out use the stairs, and you have to place it in a small cubbyhole to turn on your room's power.
Convenient location near a bunch of restaurants and a subway station. Its also near the Beijing North train station/

Orange hotels in China are pretty consistent, but this was the best one I've stayed in. Convenient location between 2 subway stations, fashionable rooms, famous and cheap dumpling restaurant just along the street (Qing Feng - favourite of President Xi I heard). My street facing room had no traffic noise, and had everything you need (though no goldfish this time!). Happy, smiley staff too. My friend's rear facing room was smaller and the view not so good, but still good value, (and he had a goldfish). Definitely recommend this place.

I'm from the U.S., and was traveling with family (Chinese) who have stayed there before. It was a good bargain, clean and convenience. Not sure if I a non-Chinese speaker would have stayed there without a translator, but since I had one it worked out perfectly. Staff has very limited English ability. Rooms are small. Really liked the high-tech touch. Wi-fi worked perfectly. Room even had a fish it in. Too cute. Very centrally located with lots of good (cheap) restaurants close by. Hotel entrance is not visible and there are some nasty smells in the parking lot.

Room Tip: I had an outside room and it was very quiet since there were at least double-paned windows. Ask for...

There is a goldfish in your room and the staff is helpful. The location is nice too. It's just 10 minute walk from either the Xizhimen or Xinjiekou station. There is alot of restaurant around that area too!

The Orange Hotel was conveniently located between 2 subways with the Xin Jie Kou being the closer one. The hotel was located around restaurants and a delicious bakery called Wedomen .A hutong area is a walk away from the hotel and on Saturday it gave us a look at local colour on shopping/market day.
The rooms were clean and modern looking but there was a smoky smell in one of them. The breakfast area was right off the reception area and was a little stark for my liking. Breakfast consisted of congee, a hard boiled egg, a half a sandwich with spam like meat and tomato slices, a banana and choice of juice or milk. All this cost just 10 yuan. Beware of ordering coffee - there is an extra charge for coffee and although it was good and satisfied my caffeine craving it cost almost as much as the breakfast.
The staff at the desk with their limited English were pleasant with lots of smiles, as was the elevator attendant who always pushed the buttons for us and greeted us with a smile and nod. The hotel entrance is on the side of the building and the reception is on the second level.

Good base to get around, but stinks like cigarettes (like all hotels in China...).
Service was good, free coffee with solving the rubrics cube ;D
The service was decent and hotel was clean with many local restaurants around.

The worst thing about this hotel is very thin walls and lack of care on the hotel side to protect guests from unnecessary noise. I need to underline that we are not very sensitive sleepers, but since some people were constantly screaming (very loudly) in the corridor in the middle of the night, we couldn’t get good night’s sleep. I know that situations like this might happen everywhere, but since they happened every night during our 4-night stay, my conclusion is that the hotel is to blame, as it’s their responsibility to secure the guests with good conditions to rest, thus reacting in case some people “misbehave”.
Few more complaints would be room size (real small), lack of wardrobe (open suitcases, where we had to store our clothes, further diminished the room) and shower cabin construction (the water from the shower was constantly flooding the floor in the bathroom due to the fact that cabin doors were leaky and the floor in the cabin almost flat).
Among the positives there were definitely:
• Hotel location ( 5-7 minutes’ walk to Xinjiekou station@ line 4, walkable distance to Xizhimen station @ the intersection of lines 2, 4 and 13, walkable distance to Wu Song hypermarket ( ask for directions at the reception desk)). Line 2 is very convenient for sightseeing (will get you directly to lama temple, Temple of Heaven, Dong Yue Miao and southern side of Tienanmen square). Line 4 can be used to reach Beijing Zoo and Summer Palace. Xizhimen station is only 5 stations away from Dongzhimen – the interchange station for Airport Express.
• Hotel surroundings - you can eat very tasty breakfast dumplings (the set of 10 at 6 yuan per set) in a family eatery at the intersection of Nacaochang Jie and Xizhimennei Daije. There are also convenience stores and bakeries located along Xizhimennei Daije (to find a bakery you need to turn left into Xizhimennei Daije and head in the direction of Xizhimen station. You will find it on your left side)
• Cleanliness level
• Availability of breakfast ( western / Chinese mix @ 10 yuan per person)
• Relative ease to communicate in English at the reception desk ( with a focus on “relative” – in practice this means that there is one person with basic level of English available during each shift)
To sum up - if you sleep as a log and do not mind the noise, you should definitely consider this hotel, as its other disadvantages are minor and the relation of price to quality is otherwise good. If not, give it up and book some other place.

Room Tip: Avoid room # 2 - neighbouring with reception counter, unless you want to hear printers, telephones...
