First, this hotel isn´t brand new. The furniture is partly a little worn out, and the coating of the inside of my bathtub started falling apart!
Even worse, there were black hair in the bathtub upon my arrival.
Apart from that, the room is nice and spacious. The Internet is not free (120,-RMB/day).

Funniest thing was, I tried to make an appointment at the Spa (by pusing the "SPA" button on the hotel phone) later one evening. For me, it was clear that I made an appointment at the Spa area for a massage at 11 PM (which is not an unusual time in a Hotel).
10 minutes before 11, a "masseuse" knocked at the door of my room, and stated that I´d ordered an in room massage service, obviously with a "happy end", as one could predict by the way she was dressed.
It was really hard to get rid of her, and I can´t get why the Spa phone is taken over by prostitutes after 10 PM.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2011

I enjoyed my stay at this C.P. from the minute of arrival until the last minute before departure. So here is the good and the bad of my stay:

What is good/great about this hotel? 1. This hotel was exceptionally clean. 2. The staff was very friendly and helpful with a great grasp of the English language. 3. The room was incredibly comfortable with a fabulous shower ( I took extra long showers). 4. The view was excellent from the 19th floor; especially with all of the fireworks from the Chinese New Year on February 1 and 2. 5. I cannot state how wonderful the breakfast was in all aspects! Use your PC status and breakfast is included with the cost of your room. 6. The lobby is enormous. The section/slab of tree trunk in the lobby is fascinating - worthy of a few minutes of your time. There are many couches and chairs that are quite comfortable for visiting with friends. 7. Mailed over 200 postcards and concierge applied all of the stamps for me! 8. There is a mall and coffee shop right next door - 25 yards away. The mall is several stories and a great place to walk. It is newer with still several stores to open. See comments below about the mall. 9. The front desk exchanged US for RMB with no problems. Exchange rate was 6.52 at time of stay. 10. I met the GM, Anna, and Executive Chef twice on my stay and both were exceptionally friendly and expressed appreciation for my stay; especially since it was the Chinese New Year.

What is the downside of this hotel? 1. You will have to wait for a taxi if you just walk to the lobby; however, if you will allow conceirge know about 30 minutes before you need a taxi, they will have one waiting for you. 2. If you like to walk to visit touristy things; there is nothing within walking distance. 3. The mall next door is very, very expensive. You can purchase anything in this mall in the US much cheaper. 4. The restaurants are expensive for dinner but then again, you are paying for that atmosphere too! 5. You have to pay for Internet; this makes no sense. Even at HI Express the Interenet is free in Beijing. This is really the only item that irked me about my stay. You have to pay 3 rmb per minute - that my friends is expensive! They do cap it at 120 rmb for the day. However, at 120 rmb per day that is $18.46 per day US. There is no reason to charge this much to use the Internet.

Other info: Taxi ride from airport to this Crowne Plaza was 64 rmb at 9:30 p.m. From hotel to airport on a Saturday morning was 55 rmb. Taxi drivers do not take cc so make sure you exchange a little money at the airport to pay for your taxi ride. Although this hotel is not located next to the tourist attractions, it was only 20 minutes to Wangfujing Street by taxi. If you have the taxi driver drive through downtown from the hotel there are other sites to see rather than taking one of the ring roads. There is a map at the front desk and basically there is a street that is a straight line from the hotel to Wangfujing Street.

There is no question that I will repeatedly stay at this hotel. Being a PC member is important in order to help stay on a higher floor and have breakfast included; otherwise, it will be more expensive. Don't even hesitate on this hotel in making your reservation!

We spent two nights at the Crowne Plaza Sun Place and really enjoyed it. The hotel seems very new and the standard rooms are reasonably sized and impeccably clean when we arrived. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable.

The only drawback is the breakfast is ridiculously priced. They only offer a set menu, which was in the range of $40 US.

Great hotel- but not too convenient for tourist sites- Beijing traffic is notorious & makes LA look good! However, if the location is good for your travel purpose or you don't mind the small inconvenience as a tourist, I highly recommend this upscale hotel. The rooms are beautiful ( see my pictures) and feature a glass enclosed bathtub where you can push a button to raise the blinds and enjoy the spacious room. As a smoker, I appreciated being able to open the side bay windows and enjoy the couch. The service was excellent : I called because of no bathrobe and a smiling employee brought me one in three minutes!
The breakfast buffet was very good.
Because the hotel is isolated and off a highway, it's great that around the corner there's a large new department store with a convenient supermarket downstairs ( also take-out food and a small seating area- see pic on hilarious signage). However, the department store upstairs carries only very expensive imported items and has more staff than shoppers ( Malaysian chain called Parkson).

This one - newly constructed hotel in one of the five hotels Crown Plaza have in Beijing, is a good alternate to avoid busy Beijing traffic.

Rooms are excellent and fully decked up with free internet, large LCD TV, nice comfortable twin beds, huge bath area and so on.

It has three differnet restaurants, (Itilain restaurant wasn't started till last momth)

Gym is good and fully equipped with all latest gazzets.

Breakfast is levish, and can consider as brunch if you can manage timing.

Most convenient to me was, it has faster access to Beijing internation airport (approx 30-40 min as compare to 1 - 1.5 hours in Beijing).

Shopping mall is next to hotel if you want to streach your legs.

This is definately a place to consider for biz travelers.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for staying at the Crowne Plaza Sun Palace Beijing and for the time to share your experience.

Realistically our hotel is located close to Beijing city center. Beijing has a very stretched out urban center which goes as far as the 5th Ring Road so anywhere you stay in Beijing city, you will be near to some landmark and far from others. The Crowne Plaza Sun Palace Beijing is located on the 3rd Ring Road, 8km from Sun Li Tun bar street, Solana lifestyle shopping park and the new Embassy District, and 5km from Olympic Village.

Once again, we appreciate your positive comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to your new home in Beijing in the not too distant future.

Overall a good stay in this hotel. Good location for the International exhibition centre (10 mins by taxi or 20 mins walk), fabulous room (I was upgraded to a suite on the club floor) , very clean and helpful staff. The club lounge is a real benefit with a great relaxing breakfast, helpful staff (Yolanda was particularly cheerful and efficient) and drinks and snacks available on a compimentary basis throughout the day.
Given the location of the hotel, it does rely on its own restaurants as there is nothing close by (this may change when the Parkson mall opens soon). I ate in the Rainbow restaurnat on one evening which was fine, however on the last evening I ate at the Red orange restaurant which was disappointing - poor service and poor quality food and this clearly needs to be improved to keep hotel customers happy - also the Portofino restaurant was closed during my stay so the in-house dining was restricted to 2 Chinese and the self service Red orange which is rather bland and unwelcoming.

On a positive note, taxis are very cheap so it is easy to get around the city and the subway station is only a short walk away. I would suggest that the hotel makes more of an effort to have a number of taxis ready in the morning as we had to wait 10 - 15 min on some mornings to get a taxi.
