Courtyard 7 is a wonderful, relaxing hotel that offers a chance to experience the old charm of China. Each room has its own unique charm. Its location in the heart of the hutong makes it all the more fun to stay there.

Stayed here on a visit to Beijing primarily to see the new National Museum of China ( we've been to Beijing several times before). This place is super quiet despite being off a hutong which bustles with activity, especially in the evening when many young people walk the streets to buy from the shops and the food stores. The hotel has a restaurant which is pricey by Chinese standards, but still not expensive, and dinner here was great and meant you didn't need to leave the hotel. There is a well priced laundry service available, although you need to pay for express service if you want your clothes back the same day. Quality of washing wasn't great, but better than my hand washing in the basin!
The hotel staff are delightful and helpful, particularly the front desk staff who came to the rescue when we had problems with our guide. And they provided a breakfast box when we had an early start on our last day. The hotel location is a bit of a walk from the nearest metro, but to avoid the walk you could get one of the plentiful buses.
Our room was probably not one of the better ones- the bed was pushed against the wall, so one person (me!) had to clamber down the bed to get out. But there is a desk which was good. No real hanging space or drawers. Ok on that front for a short stay but perhaps not longer. Other rooms I suspect might be bigger. The design of the hotel is very charming and traditional, with a series of courtyards, and I imagine in summer places to sit outside and relax.

Small hotel in the heart of Beijing, simple and beautiful. The architecture of the hotel is enchanting, the rooms are decorated in Chinese style. The welcome is warm and friendly. Bathroom with shower and sauna as a bonus. Feeling of being in a countryside, far from the bustle of the city. The central location of the hotel allows you to discover Beijing as a whole. The metro station 15 minutes of walking. Breakfast is plentiful and varied also included, good choice. We have booked airport-hotel transfers and car rental with driver to go up to the Wall of China. Timeliness, efficiency and fair prices. In short, a good hotel to recommend.

We loved Beijing, and this is in no small part due to our experience in Courtyard 7 and its superb location. A quiet hotel room is one of my stipulations and I had a sinking heart as we trundled our bags down the busy noisy alley towards the hotel, but we turned off into a haven of peace and solitude. Unbelievable! Pomegranate trees in the courtyard, sitting out areas and a lovely room with bed quite big enough for my 6' 4'' husband.
Very helpful info in room and staff were also excellent for advice, and extremely helpful with our train ticket crisis
Loved our morning walk down the, now quiet, alley to the tube to visit the sights, but also the local area itself had so much to see, do and experience. Our photos show a Beijing filled w trees and lanterns, flowers and lakes that friends that have visited but stayed in modern hotels hardly recognised.
Thank you Courtyard 7 and all the staff

Sadly it's often the case that one has reservations (no pun intended) when seeing a hotel is high on the TripAdvisor list - it's all too east for such places to rest on their laurels, lose character, ramp up prices etc. Whilst this place might have increased prices, I would say that this is a general trend in Beijing as it continues to attract more and more wealthy tourists from around the world.

I'm pleased to say that this place still has great character to it, set in a lovely Hutong complex just off S. Luogu Alley. Whilst on the subject, the neighbourhood itself is lovely, and it's especially nice to see that it hasn't been fully gentrified yet. Though certain alleys are teeming with boutiques and bars, others are reassuringly full of (relatively) normal Beijingers going about street life as usual. The Luogu Alley itself is a funny thing. It's always packed (sometimes to packed you are basically walking a queue) and it a good place for a drink or two, with some interesting (but all expensive) boutiques here and there. However after a while it becomes a little depressing as it's essentially packed with the rich kids of Beijings top 1%, flashing their cash and worshiping at the alter of modern retail. Makes you wonder what normal folk think of all this. Anyhow, I digress. This does all mean that Western travellers will never be out of their comfort zone, as it's all very tourist friendly in the neighbourhood, and you could easily eat around here every evening if you so chose. Ooh, almost forgot to mention, the Drum & Bell towers are just a short walk away, as is the Qianhai Lake. I walked from here all the way to the Forbidden City, and I can recommend this as a way to see a bit more of Beijing street life.

The rooms have fantastic character - I was in one of the cheaper backside rooms - and are extremely comfortable. The bathroom was well fitted and had a great feel to it. The only real issue - which comes with the Hutong territory to a degree - is that the cheaper rooms are slightly on the small side. This means there was actually no chest of drawers or cupboard to hang clothes. This really is the only thing I would've liked to have been different.

The restaurant area is also lovely, and has been nicely decorated and maintained. Breakfast offerings were decent, with continental, German and Chinese offerings. Now I have no problem with the Germans preference for cold meats and cheese at breakfast, but it is now a noticeable phenomenon that the spending power of German tourists mean that small hotels worldwide are having to desperately cater to their slightly unique breakfast tastes, and it often comes at the detriment of having say, a decent selection of fresh fruit on offer. Great if you're German, not so great if you're from the entire rest of the world, unless you also like cheese and salami in the morning that is. Ranting aside, the restaurants own menu was pretty decent too, though I only ate a couple of meals here. It's not cheap, but then again most places that cater specifically to the tourist crowd in this area can be pricey. Oh, one warning, stay well well away from their cheapest red wines. My glass of 'Great Wall' was questionable to say the least, but the glass of the cheapest Australian (I question if it wasn't actually domestic at the price) was genuinely unpalatable.

The staff were all very polite and friendly, and really couldn't be faulted on their conduct throughout my stay. They're happy to give recommendations, but you never feel like they're sending you to their friends place or anything along those lines.

All in all, I can thoroughly recommend this place. If you value character and location above overall levels of comfort and service (not that these are bad here, its just not what you'd get at a large international chain) then this is for you.
