This is what you would expect from Swire Hotels, a subsidiary of the Swire Property Group, a major property developer based in Hong Kong. They are also running a top-rated sister hotel in Hong Kong, the Upper House.

Pros:
1. Up market and trendy location in the middle of Sanlitun Village - great shops, restaurants and an underground supermarket.
2. Extremely quiet rooms - no bustling streets downstairs as the hotel is surrounded by promenade.
3. Very spacious rooms - even if you go for the standard room type.
4. Huge onsen style wooden bath tub - they even put a toy duck there to give you company!
5. Complimentary minibar - local and imported beers, beverages and snacks generously refilled everyday.
6. Free in-room iPad - though you will probably bring along your own device.
7. Full range of sockets - just next to the writing desk - no need to pack your own travel adaptors.

Cons (barely):
1. It might be a bit chilly when you get out of the shower during winter - open plan bathroom without any door.

Service was excellent. A young and enthusiastic team headed by a manageress (apparently trained and relocated from Hong Kong) with fluent English. When they knew I had left my credit card in a countryside restaurant miles away, they took every step to make sure I got it back from locals (which I did on the same evening).

Tips: Make sure you order your breakfast from the menu (if your package includes breakfast). Your choice is not limited to those few items on the buffet table. No extra charge for any item from the menu.

The opposite house is a boutique hotel and is the creation of renowned japonese Architect Kengo Kuma. the room are spacious and very Zen and well adapt to conduct business in the center of Beijing and well located in the well known Sanlitun Village. The room are very simple and the use of wood is everywhere including the bath and the vanity and the sinks (not really efficient for hotel use)
The suite on the 6 floors are very bright and efficient for working and doing business with a long working table and a long bar style of table.
Sureno the Mediterranean restaurant is excellent and even if you do not stay in the hotel it is worth to try it. Jing Yaa Tang provide as well the best duck in Town with an open wooden oven.
The service is great and very personalized.

Apart from the exquisite detail of the design in this hotel, the staff were delightful, excellent linguistic ability and superb food and shopping available on site in addition to the inspiring works of art and tranquil recreational facilities. Superb job all at OHH. MC

This is a very nice place. I loved the decoration. Very beautiful works of art on display in the lobby. Our room was very nice, comfortable and well equipped. As well we had a superb breakfast. Regarding the staff, well they were very pleasant and efficient, providing a good quality service. Valet parking available and an Italian restaurant with very good food. Also we enjoyed the spa which is very relaxing. The hotel is located in a nice neighborhood. You can book it without restraint.

The Opposite House offers up a truly unique ambiance that combines contemporary sophistication with a casual elegance. The people are all friendly and trained to please; the rooms (at least ours) comfortable and richly designed. The location near the embassies and beside an upscale mall is dotted with nightspots that draw a great international crowd.

Amazing change in a very special time in an interesting city,THE OPPOSITE HOUSE,building 1 Taikoo li Sanlitun North is a gem in design and service.
If you are interested in learning more about the "NEW CHINA " you should stay in that place.
The Japanese Designer mad a consequent job, he is working with the finest wood .
The reception is a little bit strange, because the staff has to stand a long time.however all is done via internet and computers. The rooms are very comfortable. Perfect air condition. service excellent. The tech board for the lights dimming is to complicated. The shower perfect.
It is a real pleasure to stay at this house. If you are interested in changes and experiences, this is the place you have to be,

Room Tip: We like the 2 floor, because you see still the top of the trees and the bamboos.

My friends and I have recently used this on two occasions when we were passing through beijing. The hotel is excellent, well located and very nicely decorated. The restaurants offer a wide range of local and international food and are very reasonable. Only downside is the rather coffin like wooden baths in the rooms, look great but not desperately comfortable, resorted to showering after first attempt at a soak.
