“Four star, beautiful hotel but wifi is a must for me.”
Reviewed 27 June 2011

We checked in on June 25, 2011. We got the Buick minivan car service from the hotel, 800 RMB so $123 USD. They had a greeter meet us at the terminal gate at Beijing Airport. She helped with bags and took us to the car. Very helpful.

They gave us a room early, arrived at the hotel around 800am. Upgraded us to king bedroom suite, unsure if it is a lifestyle suite or not, language barrier. The room was beautiful. Walk-in closet, two sinks, separate toilet, walk-in shower and tub, TV by tub, rainfall shower, big room, with two LCD Televisions. Work area, sofa and just an amazing design overall.

Pros: The value, the decor, the pool, the free breakfast buffet, the location. Light and curtain controls. Executive lounge. Cheap taxi's. The concierge was extremely helpful. Use their tour service; English guide and driver for 8 hours was $247 USD.

Cons: Lack of wifi at pool and rooms. The wired internet speed was poor at best. The lighting was poor in bathroom. Nice bathroom but could use brighter lights. The elevator had trouble reading my room key card (security) sometimes, making me take rides to the lobby and back for no reason.

I would say the Waldorf Astoria opening next door might draw customers from this hotel with nothing but better internet broadband. I don't know why Hilton would build right next to themselves. If no wifi, i would like a broadband speed that isn't slow.

* I am not a frequent traveler to China, so i do not know if this is a problem for other hotels too, due to government restrictions, but broadband speed and connectivity matters to me. While at the pool, I was able to draw from the Peninsula Hotel wifi (no password though.) I didn't expect to access Google and gmail but Bing and yahoo were fine on my computer.

Room Tip: Become a gold or diamond VIP.

This is a fantastic hotel to stay in, when in Beijing. We booked this hotel because it was within walking distance of the Forbidden City. This was one of the best hotels, and hotel staffs, that I have run accross in forty years of traveling. After a long day, of the noise and pollution of Beijing, we looked forward to returning to our room. The bathrooms were fantastic with full lenght tub(with a t.v. in the wall), a seperate shower room, and toilet room, and a dressing room. The beds were excellent, with multiple pillows piled up on them. This is one of the newest Hilton's in Beijing, and everything was in top shape. Mr. Wei , the assistant manager was helpful and attentive to all our needs, as was his excellent staff.
When we booked online, we had no idea what an excellent location we were in. There is a brand new six story shopping center, a hundred yards to the right out the main entrance. It has at least fifteen well priced restaurants, plus dozens of stores. It has a McDonalds where you can get a decent cup of coffee, at a reasonable price. Around the corner from the Hilton is a three block pedestrain mall, and a night market. This part of town felt safe, even late at night. The subwas was three blocks away, and a good way to get around Beijing for about 30 cents(two yuan). The cost of the stay at the Hilton was reasonable and highly recommend it.

I've lived and worked in China for many years but this was my first trip to Beijing. This is a pretty new hotel and the room was great, there is 4 of us in my family and the Hilton was the only hotel in that area that would allow 4 people in a room. The indoor swimming pool is small and shallow but there are nice lounge chairs to relax in if you want to stay out of the pollution. The service in the buffet restaurant was a little slow and everything in Beijing is expensive but I will make this Hilton my place to stay if I'm back there again.

Ok, so I haven't stayed at more than 4-5 different hotels in Beijing but at least amongst those this one takes the top spot. Recently opened (2010 I believe) this is a truly great hotel. Guests get a lot of attention, the interior is nice etc but what really makes this stand out would be the rooms. Very large and very moderne with all that you need. Just don't expect a room with a view - central location but surrounded by other buildings.

The Hilton Beijing Wangfujing is by far the nicest Hilton I've stayed in during my 25+ years of traveling the globe. I generally avoid the Hilton brand as I've found, particularly in the US, they have gone a bit downhill over the past decade. Several of my colleagues told me this Hilton would be different, and they were right!

The room accomdations were wonderful; a king-size bed and a room that is far larger that what one usually finds overseas, particularly in Europe. It was easily twice the size of a standard European room.

The hotel was built for the 2008 Olymipcs and shows no obvious signs of wear. The housekeeping staff keeps the rooms spotless.

The three restaurants were all excellent. I had a colleague join me for dinner, and we had the Peking duck (need to order at least one hour in advance) in the Chynna restaurant. She is a native of Hong Kong and a frequent visitor to Beijing/China. She said the Peking duck was far better than any she had had in China.

The wait staff in the restaurants are wonderful -- friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast (may be included in your room price) is superb, as good as I have ever had in US or othewise.

Front desk staff and conceirge are also extremely helpful and courteous.

The hotel is located right next to an upscale shopping mall, which in turn is located on one of the more famous "shopping streets" (street closed to pedestrian traffic) in Beijing, the so-called Wangfujing shopping district. It is an easy walk to Tiananmen Square and the Imperial (Forbidden) City.

Simply put, if you don't enjoy a visit to the Hilton Wangfujing, it is likely your fault.

I had one day to "see something" and chose to hike the Great Wall about 2 hours north of Beijing. The drive alone is worth the trip, the mountains are beautiful. Booked my tour through Great Wall Hiking. Could not have gone better. Full day excursion, 8A to 5P, with about 3 hours hike on the Wall (which is plenty, 5 hours would be overkill). My guide was superb, a wealth of knowledge on Chinese history, culture, folklore, etc. Grace was a pleasure to be with. Tour groups for this excursion can be as large as 8. I booked late and they were not able to add anyone to my "group", so I was a group of one, and paid the highest price ($238, not including a RMB 200 tip to Grace and RMB 100 tip to driver). Worth every penny. If you have a family or a group of friends, the per person price goes down and is quite reasonable.

I have stayed in many Hiltons around the world and can honestly say the Hilton Beijing Wangfujing is one of the best. The Executive lounge is terrific with wonderful breakfasts and tasty and plentiful evening delicacies. The complaints in tripadvisor about the hotel have to do with construction and taxi drivers having challenges finding hotel given It is so new. Having stayed 5 nights in May 2012 neither was was an issue. Rather the location is excellent ( can see the forbidden city from the hotel window ... A 15 min walk). The shopping is literally outside the door. Fabulous place to stay in every respect. Will be back again!
