I was traveling alone so had the single which ran off the shared sitting area and also near the laundry. Unfortunately this meant I could hear a lot of noise and found it difficult to sleep. The other negative is that it takes forever to have breakfast served so don't eat here unless you have plenty of time. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. The staff were also friendly and speak some English.

We stayed her in April. The place is great, clean, tidy, well kept and with lots of natural light. The staff were all very helpful. The beds were the comfiest that we found in China (Chinese don't really understand what a mattress is!). It is located just of Nan Luo Gu xiang Rd which is a trendy little street with a bit of a (as close as China gets) a Newtown or Paddington feel. The street can get busy and the shops open late and go into the night and there are street markets. We didn't find it noisy at all. The Hotel does have a dog - Blackie - that is very friendly, it does bark from time to time but we didn't find it a problem. I'd recommend Hutongren to anyone looking for friendly B&B style hotel in Beijing.

Hutongren Courtyard Hotel is very well located in the heart of Beijing. Located on a small side street near Starbucks, I was protected from much of the noise, so was refreshed for the next day's adventure. It is such a lovely place I'd definitely stay there again, and have recommended this location to friends.

Hutongren Courtyard Hotel was in the heart of the busy part of the city, but it didn't feel like you were so close to the action. Staff members Seven and Eleven, were the kindest and caring people. My friend and I were there during grave cleaning days so we were having a hard time getting train tickets to Xi'an to meet up with our tour there. Eleven took on our problem of getting plane tickets delivered to the hotel and she viewed it a a learning lesson/challenge on how to deal with problems in English.
The hotel is clean. Rooms are very small but the beds were so comfortable. We had a room with a private bath. They had plenty of hot water and easy access to a refrigerator which held water, wine, soft drinks and beer. Nice homey touch. Breakfast was adequate in their cozy little dining area with extra effort to prepare eggs the way you like them. The courtyard sitting area could be a bit noisy at times if you had a room off of that area. I enjoyed Blackie the dog who occasionally barks as an added element of home life. Blackie was no more of a problem than some of the noisier kids which is normal. The staff were always willing to help with directions and how to get around. This boutique hotel I highly recommend for its location, customer service and atmosphere. Enjoy the welcome tea, too.

I stayed in the only single room (closer to the street), so it was a little noisy at night but still quiet enough to get a good sleep. The location is very convenient, close to the subway ~ and easy to get to the main attractions. Mmm ... the only downside was the wifi connection wasn't too good in my room ... other than that, I would definitely come back again. Seven and her staff are very helpful and friendly :D

My friend and i had stayed 1 night in single room, and 4 night in twin room in the beginning of April. To me, it more like a B&B than a hotel. And the cost is all for the location.
The location is very convenient, but it took me over 25 mins to walk back to the hotel from south entrance of Nanluoguxian in public holiday, as Nanluoguxian were stucked of tourists. For weekdays, its definitely a good choice.
But there is much room to improve for its cleanliness, when we entered our single room the first day, there were a dead coachroach on the wall, and at least two spider webs in the room.
The air-con in our twin room was leaking water just on the head of the bed, my friend needed to cover the bed with towel, to avoid the water splash on head. We found out that the other room got the same situation, as the wall got a large place of water blot.
The room is small, no place to hang coat or whatever, no clothes rack or closet in the room.
The hot water were also running out sometimes.
We got two pillows in our twin room, and i would like to have one more, but the staff said there were no more.
No service or staff available after 11:30 pm or 12:am.....

But the staff there are really friendly and nice.

We had two seperate stays here and loved the experience. On arrival we were greeted with a welcome tea and cakes before being shown to our room. The first room we had was spacious with satin sheets on the bed and a seperate bathroom and areas to sit outside. We were obviously spoilt first time around as the second was not as big but still had a seperate shower (both were great). There was a however a slight smell of damp in the second room but this was by no means overpowering. That both rooms had underfloor heating was a big bonus and made the place feel so homely.

The communial areas are all set up for a peaceful and relaxing break from the busy Hutong outside which meant after a long day walking Beijing we looked forward to some time relaxing at the Huntongren before heading out again. The staff were very friendly and helpful when needed.

The location is right in the heart of a great Hutong with plenty of shops, bars and eateries near by and is close for transport (bus is closest than the Metro). We actually found it easy to find. I would certainly recommend the Huntongren.
