The moment I walked in the doors I was warmly greeted by the staff and by two beautiful dogs. (Blackie the old lady of the Hutong and Mika the rambunctious little puppy in training.) The room was spotless and the perfect size for me. The little extras in the room of water, shower gel, shampoo, fluffy towels and slippers were unexpected and made me feel even more welcome. The welcome tea was wonderful also. Sitting up on the terrace makes you feel a world away from the jam packed streets below. In fact this Hutong is incredibly peaceful and would make for a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Beijing or Shanghai if you live in either of those places as I do. (I was here to sight see though)

The location of this Hutong is perfect. I walked to Jingshan Park, the Forbidden Palace and the Bell and Drum tower are just minutes walk away as is Houhai Lake. The street it is located off is a hub for Chinese tourists to eat and shop. Lots of snacks, drinks and souvenirs on the street. Get up early and catch a taxi to Tiananmen Square for the flag raising it is worth it. Because you're so central it is easy to get a cab there early in the morning from this Hutong. Also get to the end of the street early enough to catch the lady selling the Chinese Crepes. She is so popular she is gone by 8am but for 5RMB you can't get a better breakfast for that walk to the Palace.

When I come back to Beijing I will definitely stay here again. In fact it is so central and the staff, dogs and rooms so perfect I wouldn't consider anywhere else.

I really liked the fit out and facilities at this place. It's quite modern (rare in the area), has lots of light and a bookshelf with lots to read. Theres a rooftop terrace where you can sit. It's located in the touristy Hutong area, but if you take yourself 5 mins from the main drag, it becomes quite a local experience. It's up to you to explore.

The highlight of my stay here was the free tea class. The young people that work here will take you through the basics of Chinese tea. You can clearly tell that they are passionate about it. They could probably charge for this - but they don't. It's a lovely touch.

They also helped me book my Great Wall Tour effortlessly. I gave them less than 12 hours notice and it was done.

However, for the price, I think they could have included a small basic, breakfast. Maybe even provided a voucher for a local eatery, so they don't have to prepare it. Just an idea.

Overall - a lovely stay.

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences. We are glad that you have had a good time in our hotel. Tea plays an important role in Chinese culture, also it is our favorite. We are pleased to introduce some knowledge of tea and spread Chinese tea culture to the traveler. We offer a free welcome tea and tea class and use tea as the theme of our hotel. For the breakfast, you give us a good idea and we will consider it.
Kind regards.

This hotel is located in the heart of the old Beijing and just minutes of walk from the subway station. A perfect base camp for me to explore the city's bounty.
The hotel was apparently a retrofited over a traditional chinese house. The design and decor were quite pleasing. I had booked the smallest room but it was pretty decent. The weather was pretty hot during the day time, but it cooled down quite a bit and sitting on the hotel's roof terrace was a blast.
Other ammenities include tea tasting - and tea class if you have time, the hutong life right outside, and cute dog and cats!
Adios, my summer vacation! :(

Thanks for sharing you experience. We are glad you enjoyed the Hutong life in Beijing. But I have a question, we don’t have cat in our hotel, the little black guy is a puppy dog. XD

Our friends recommend this hotel to us, and it was excellent!
We booked from the official website and they send us a email to show the driver and we find the hotel easily. We arrived at mid night and were welcomed with a nice tea and fruits in the room. The staff are excellent, they serve very good breakfast and tea. We had a very good tea experience--Chinese tea course. It is free for the lodger. It was about 1 hour in the afternoon, everything is just perfect. The sunshine, the music, the tea, and everything. First we learned the history of Chinese tea and categories. Seven showed us the six kinds of tea leaves and the differences. Then we learned the different methods to drink Chinese tea, different teaware, different water temperature and soak time. And we practiced to making 2 kinds of it. It was really a pleasant time. And we even got a tea gift when we left.
About the room, we stayed in the twin room and one of the single room, the rooms are clean, with the best mattress. We had a very comfortable stay here. And don’t miss the terrace, we had enjoyable time here.
Highly recommend!

Room Tip: the terrace is wonderful, next time I would like to stay in the room on the terrace.

The streets and hutongs surrounding the hotel are incredibly lively and pleasant. A great choice to explore the areas of the lakes. It was not easy to find the hostel at first though in the maze of hutongs.
The staff was absolutely charming and made us feel at home. The tea was very good, and the tea courses that were offered great. It is very practical to have various services like laundry...We enjoyed the night out at a Kung-Fu show that was entirely organized by the hostel : we didn't even have to organize the transportation.

We were staying with our two children in the room next to the living-room, and the only problem was that the light from the living-room kept us from sleeping early. Maybe it could be arranged with a curtain.
We will probably stay here next time we are in Beijing.

The location is great - in the middle of the fancy hutongs. But be prepared to walk a few meters with you suitcases, the taxi cannot drive in front of the hotel.
The straff is extremely friendly, the rooms are clean and nice. We booked the most expensive room (Supreme Double Room) with "garden view" - which is actually not true. It's like a closed balcony without view, because it's surrounded by walls. The doors to this balcony could unfortunately not be locked. But all in one: extremely lovely place, the tea service and the free tee course is very lovely. Thanks!!!

Hutongren Courtyard Hotel boasts a fantastic location in the heart of the hutongs just off Nanluoguxiang Road. The area is lovely to wander around with a great atmosphere and all sorts of shops, stalls, restaurants, cafes etc. to enjoy. It is within easy walking distance of the drum and bell towers as well as Hou Hai. The hotel itself is small, our family room had 4 beds, was tiny but served our purposes well as we were not in the room much, other than to sleep - bunk beds not as comfortable as the other rooms! The property is clean, beautiful and quiet, the staff are lovely and the breakfasts are excellent. Blackie the dog provided lots of entertainment for our two young kids.

Room Tip: The family room is right on the front next to reception - this did not bother us but it could have b...
