“Well prepared Vietnamese food - with a price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013

The location and the wonderful views from the lakeside tables are probably the main reason for the pricey menu and drinks list. The food is excellent and carefully represented, but the size of the portions can be disappointing if you are expecting the same value level as in pretty much anywhere else. Take this into consideration if you think about sharing the portions with more than two people. We ended up ordering extra portions and that was somehow kind of cumbersome and time consuming. Anyway, Nuage offers a refreshing change to the average chinese food if you need it.

“Vietnamese, average, focussed on tourist”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2013

Average Vietnamese food but a decent setting and service. The staff speaks English and the prices are a bit above the normal prices in Beijing. Say with chinese and you are better off.

“Nuage Vietnamese food.”

Located near the Hou Hai lake, a good place to have dinner, if you are willing to pay additional 15 percent you can have dinner on the rooftop which will give you a great view over the hutong!

“Vietnamese Food in Hutong - near drum/Bell Towers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

We're a family of 4 living in Guangzhou, China and on holiday in Beijing for a week.

Our family wondered around the "tourist section" of the Hutongs (Beijing) for quite a while before we found a restaurant open near/around Lake Qianhai.

After a Rickshaw driver pointed us to the Nuage we decided to give it a whirl. We all love Vietnamese food so hoped for a win-win.

The main floor of the place offers a Chinese menu but the 2nd floor offers the Vietnamese menu.

It's a lovely atmosphere; warm, well set up with Rickshaw seats as some table seating (see my photo) and very family friendly. The building is about 200 years old and was once a Shandong cuisine restaurant during the Qing Dynasty.

The food is typical of what you'd find in a "tourist" restaurant but don't let that put you off. The food and service are all of an excellent quality. We ordered several dished to share; they arrived promptly and were fine. The staff is friendly and keen to please but one needs to be patient with getting their attention. Kids had lemon milkshakes and my spouse and I had tea – all were fine. I do like my food hot spicy so if that’s your pleasure too you will need to ask for it – ask for spicy sauces etc.

The Nuage does not disappoint and all at a decent price. I know there are other more inexpensive and authentic Vietnamese options in the "non-touristy" section of the Hutongs but sometimes when a family of 4 needs feeding after a days walk-about, you just need some good fresh food - and that's what we got at Nuage.

Take a table that has a view of Lake Qianhai but there are only about 5 tables with a view. There’s a roof top patio but we did not visit that.

“Fantastic place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

This restaurant was just awesome. The location is in a trendy part of Beijing right at the banks of a lake surrounded by bars and other restaurants. A bit tricky to find for us actually but I think in general it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Inside the restaurant is gorgeous. The decor is a strange sort of classy homage to Vietnamese culture. There are some lovely water features as well as converted rickshaw seats for some tables(which looks better than you'd think, trust me the place looks good inside)

The food was also great. We were a bit worried by Vietnamese cuisine in case it was too exotic for our tastes so we weren't that adventurous in our selection. What we had was excellent though and if I return I'll definitely check out some of the other dishes.

Pricing was very reasonable for what it was. Relatively steep compared to some prices in China but for such a nice meal in such an awesome establishment the prices were fantastic.
