It was long and weary trek to find the hotel and we almost didn't make it. But once found, we decided we were not going anywhere else. The atmosphere cos the courtyard is simply great. I could just hang out there poking into all the little accessories, books, magazines that is used to make the courtyard feel so homely. And everyone instantly transforms in social beings because that's what a lovely courtyard does to you. Great bath and toilet (even by non-Beijing standards). Fantastic breakfast and very good personalised service too.

We stayed 4 nights at Kelly's Courtyard after reading the comments on TripAdvisor, and we were more than happy to have come there! The place is very close to the subway, in a non touristic area but close to all the touristic ones (10 min direct bus to the Tien An Men place, a lot of little shops everywhere around...). The courtyard is soooo quiet compared to the buzz of the city, the rooms and the whole place is absolutely charming, and the staff is really great: they helped us find train tickets for Shanghai when everything was full everywhere, wrote us directions in chinese for the bus when we were travelling around! Special thanks to Sally who was always there for us!!!!

Advice: Don't book your rooms through touristic websites who charge twice the price, just go on their website and send them an email or call them, it will be way cheaper!

If we come back to Beijing, we will definitely go back there!

Stayed for 6 nights. Staff very pleasant and helpful, e.g. getting plane tickets. Good English spoken. Very reasonably priced drinks and snack available. Taxi can't get though last narrow hutong lane to door but it's a short walk. Close to subway station. Plenty of shops and eateries in the vicinity. Rooms not enormous but more than adequate. No TV or fridge in room. Good free wifi. Aircon OK. Beds on the hard side but not as hard as most places in China. Basic 'western' breakfast, fresh fruit, good coffee. Pretty quiet location. Interesting walking through the hutong area. Would stay again.

For us first time travellers to China, arriving at Kelly's Courtyard was quite a surprise. Our travel itinerary first took us to Shanghai where we stayed several days at a hostel near the Bund area, with all its structured concrete & steel buildings. Stepping inside Kelly's' door & through a small corridor leading to the courtyard, we immediately exclaimed " hey, we really are in China!" Kelly's has retained the "hutong" style, a typical Chinese home setting. This is what makes the place unique. Somewhat rustic too with its brick & wood interiors. Add to it the tasteful & artistic ideas in design & decors by it's owner, Kelly and you've got a winner.

We were greeted by its friendly & very helpful manager, Sandy, who also speaks good English. He really can acquaint you with tourist information & how to get around Beijing & its environs. He can also show you great places to eat especially their famous & oh so delicious Peking duck! Which by the way is only some walking distance from the hostel. Or a one stop bus ride. Yes!

Once you've walked the short distance from the hostel to the main street, there are a lot of mini marts & eateries along the way. Walk further up & there are a few big malls where you can have an even wider selection of stuff you might need as you travel around (like sim cards, load cards, etc.) The bus stop is just there as you step into the main street & the subway (a great way to go around Beijing & its tourist spots) is not that far ahead, just before you reach the malls - so the hostel's location is really good.

Breakfast comes with the room rates - also very reasonable. It's simple enough with its set of coffee or tea, fresh orange juice, pastries, toast with butter & jam, yogurt & fresh fruits. Yet just as satisfying! After eating, we enjoy talking to Sandy & also asked him for some directions on some places we want to go. If you need anything, just ask him. He'll ably tell you the hows & the wheres. No problem. Thanks! This really helps when you are on a "on you own" kind of tour & not a package tour.

So we really enjoyed our first trip to China. New friends. Great country. And in Beijing, at Kelly's Courtyard. A great place to make a good China connection! Norman & Cecile

Yes, that´s the best way to describe it. It was very relaxing to get back to this place after long days of sightseeing in Beijing, which sometimes can be a very noisy, almost overpowering, city. The whole place is marvellously decorated, with a fantastic courtyard to hang out in, also a rooftop deck where you can spend nice warm evenings. The rooms are fairly decent sized, but not all the same. It´s located at the end of a small alley, in a Hutong, which at one time makes it a bit difficult to find (there are no signs at the door either), but also in a nice calm environment. The setbacks may be that it´s difficult to find the first time, taxis can´t get you all the way into the alley since it´s too narrow, and as another reviewer mentioned, you may be disturbed by noise from other guest, since it is built in traditional chinese style.

If you want a nice relaxing place, stay here!

We spent 5 nights at Kelly's and met some interesting people. The rooms are small, but clean and functional. The courtyard is quiet, artistically furnished, and ideal for a late breakfast. Service is friendly, and no problem with language.

The hostel is about 5 minutes walk from subway, from which you can visit all the major sights. Xidan station and its shops and restaurants are one stop away. Tienanmen is within walking distance. The zoo and summer palace are on the same subway line (about 30 cents per trip).

The hutong in which the hostel is located is relatively clean (unlike for other hutong hostels). Cons are: no bedroom TV, no indoor meals, but that may not matter to most.

Overall, great value for money. Highly recommended
