“Superb location, value for money”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

The hostel is located 10 minutes walk away from the subway station line 2 (or line 1?). Will be 5 minutes walk when the new line open. Besides, the bus stop located right outside of the hostel doorstep provide a great connection of the hostel to other tourist destination of Beijing. It is also only 15 minutes walk to Back Sea (后海,什杀海)and a few of the famous Beijng alley aka HuTong.

The dorm itself is just average, 6 bed dorms. The cleanliness of the dorm leaves much to desire, way below average dorm in China. I dropped my towel one night and an inch thick dust stick on it. It looks like the cleaner just swipe everything to under the bed. The washroom and shower room is simple, and the water takes approximately 10 minutes to heat up to desire temperature.

Nonetheless, there is a huge common area near the reception where one can just relax after a long day visiting Beijing. Along the walk way and staircase up to the dorm, there are lot's of helpful information to visit Beijing. Simply snap the place that sparks your interest and you have all the information you need visiting the capital. In addition, information slip is also provided near the reception. Thumbs up for providing one of the most comprehensive details of visiting Beijing.

The attitude and friendliness of the staff was average, nothing great but not rude either.

Room Tip: Book from hostelworld to get the cheapest dorm bed. I called and I was quoted RMB 60 while I get RMB...

I would really recommend staying here, everyone here was so friendly and the location was perfect, 2 minutes from the metro and some amazing restaurants, make sure you try the street pancakes up the road on the way to the station!

Youll love the location of Beijing Drum Tower hostel. Close to metro line 2 so easy to access anywhere in Beijing. The hostel is in a fun area bustling with cafés, street food, shops and parks. Bunk beds and rooms are spacious. Rooftop view is outstanding. Free pool table, too.

We stayed here for five nights whilst we toured Beijing and the Great Wall, three nights in a dorm and 2 in a private room. The communal area was nice and clean, and there is lots of information for travellers, and the dorm and private rooms were also clean and well kept. The problems we had were with the staff, where the two male members were very helpful and keen to advise on what to do without trying to sell anything, but the female staff seemed disinterested, and half of them didn't speak English very well either. The bathroom in the dorm was also quite dirty, although the shared bathroom we had after was extremely clean so maybe we were just unlucky. The location is good, with great access to public transport and quite a few restaurants around the area. Would definitely recommend a stay here, and try to book online as it's way cheaper than when you book in person!

It's a typical backpackers hostel, good young ambient, clean room, comfortable beds but a poor bathroom (you get the bowl wet when you get a shower, as there is no curtain or anything).

The reception is quite helpful and they speak more or less good english, not very common in Chine, not even Beijing.

We booked a six people room private all to ourselves so I can not say if sharing a room is a good option... but I wouldn't say so as there are no lockers in the room, they are on the reception. The room's door was broken and they spent some hours to fix it, so we had to let our baggage at reception...

There is WiFi and works fine in the rooms.

It's near a subway station (5 minutes walking) in a no very interesting area of Beijing, but next to the city centre.

We stayed here on our last night in China, though we had been in their restaurant a few times before and they had helped us with booking plane tickets online (which was very nice since we weren't even staying with them at the time). Our room was a decent size, with a large Queen sized bed and large windows looking out towards the Drum Tower. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom, and there was a coffee pot in the room. We paid 240CNY (about $37)/ night, which was considerably less than the 1,000CNY we paid earlier in our trip to stay in another place right around the corner. Of course, this is a hostel, so it's just the bare necessities, but it's very clean and the staff is very helpful.

Keep in mind that although they are close to the Drum Tower, lake area and metro, there is a lot of construction going on on the main street outside, so there is a lot of traffic ALL the time.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floors probably have better views, as well as being quieter, as you're fu...

The hostel is cozy and has a really nice atmosphere in the lobby and cafe. However
1. The toilet was unbelievably dirty and not cleaned until we warned them to do so which was at least 24h after we arrived..
2. The four of us made one reservation for a four-bed bedroom, but we were placed in a six-bed bedroom, two in one room, one in another room and the fourth in yet another room.
3. The staff understands very little English. If you encounter any kind of a complex problem or have a more complex question (like „What does the tour include?“), there is a good chance you will leave the front desk without the problem being solved, but you being tired of explaining. There was one girl however, who worked at the front desk on the day we left, who spoke English very well and was very very helpful.
