Fairmont Beijing

Certificate of Excellence

Having travelled extensively in Asia and the far east generally we have experienced some really excellent hotels, however the Fairmont, Beijing probably tops our list of hotels to revisit.
We opted for the hotel car service to meet us at the airport which was well worth the money as we were met at the gate and assisted through what is a very busy airport and we were soon on our way. Cleverly the driver called ahead as we neared the hotel and as we stepped from the car we were greeted by name and quickly escorted to our room, having been personally welcomed by the hotel manager who apparently tries to meet guests whenever he is able. We had opted for a Gold Room which is not cheap, but is very good value as apart from a great room the rate included a fabulous breakfast, drinks and snacks, afternoon tea and most of all a wonderful staff team who could not do enough to make us feel comfortable and welcome.
we also used to hotel for transport to the Great Wall and othet attractions as we didnt want a tour or guide and theat was all arranged by the very capable, larger than life Bob from the concierge team. Location is good as it is very close to the subway, really importatnt as Taxi drivers here will often not pick up tourists and also dont really know the city anyway. Subway is very easy to use. Also close to Silk Market which is fun if you negotiate strongly.
Tried and recommend The Cut restaurant, excellent food and service. They mad a real occasion of our wedding anniversary
The hotel itself is stunning with wonderful art work and a beautiful spa and pool again with staff who attend to your every need ( and some you hadnt even thought of)
we are really sorry to leave this truly Great Hotel and are really grateful to all the excellent managers ans staff who are the most important element in making the hotel so exceptional

I spend a lot of time in hotels all over the world and I have to say that this is up there with the best of them. From the moment you check-in to being met at check out by the GM - this was a fantastic experience. Service is first class. (excellent rooms service - a good way to judge a hotel is by its club sandwich... and its great here!!!)
As for the rooms - my god- they are superb. I had booked a normal room and it was anything but!! The bed is extremely comfortable, nespresson machines, excellent TV, a great desk for working on.... the shower and bath are amasing... I cant say enough good things about this hotel. I will most definately be staying here on my return trips to Beijing.
Oh and it has a fantastic gym! First class running machines, with bottles of water everywhere. Its the little things that seperate good hotels from great hotels and this is certainly a great hotel.

On our last day, Beijing-based friends brought us to have lunch at the LUNAR 8 asian restaurant of The Fairmont Beijing and I must say that the dining experience was excellent! The staff was very attentive and English was not a barrier. I was quite impressed with the beautiful interior decoration of the major areas within the hotel - plush, classy, and non-intimidating. Although my wife and I were not hotel residents, the hotel staff certainly made us feel just as important. The Fairmont Beijing will be at the top of our list next time we visit Beijing - hopefully soon!

Stayed for 3 nights , Oct.10-13th. , "gold floor". I did on extensive checking prior to making reservation. I was able to received a very good deal directly from Fairmont reservation center.Gold floor is a definite great deal.Outstanding breakfast, both western and Chinese - the best shrimp dumpling !. Not only quality excellent, but almost artistic presentation. In afternoon again excellent selection of different type of food and drinks. Pastry - identical to the best founded in patisseries in Paris. We asked and talked to a chef , who is originally from Switzerland.
3 floors special fitness center - spa, swimming pool, yoga room etc.
Rooms - everything electronically controlled. Very comfortable.Everybody already wrote about bathrooms.
We found location to be perfect. Not on main shopping street. Much less hassle, but very close to a main line o metro, which is a definitely the best way to travel.
Beautiful decoration all around this hotel Look and the main chandelier in a lobby. Finally - personnel. Extremely polite and helpful.
We did travel extensively to a different part of the world and this hotel was one of the best or even not the best which we ever stay.

Convenient location - minutes walk from subway station. Take a map and hotel location with you - taxi drivers are not too familiar with this new location.
Beautiful rooms with very high-tech bathrooms (and toilet!) and lighting system.
Spacious spa although not fully operating with limited services.
Beautiful dining facilities but didn't try the food.
Indoor pool with excellent fitness centre.
Free wifi with President's Club membership.

Others:

2 bakeries down the road (exit the hotel and walk down the straight to your right) for breakfast and yummy pastries!

English-speaking tour guide Maggie (maggie11882000@yahoo.com.cn) is excellent.

1949 Hidden City: Noodle Bar for hand-make soup noodles and Duck de Chine for duck and 50% off quality dimsum... the best!

Location: Not the greatest location for restaurants and nightlife, but the subway station is a five minute walk and the hotel is close to the “Silk Market”. One late evening we were looking for a restaurant and I asked the doorman what were the flashing neon lights down the street, his reply a housing development. The next night we made the 5-minute walk towards the lights, which we discovered were advertising an “Entertainment and Gentleman’s area. A quick look around and we noticed, “massage” signs, clearly not a good dinner location!
Hotel: A new hotel with very nice public space and fine restaurants, surrounded by large office towers, a true 5star hotel.
Room: We had a fantastic room, very clean and modern.
Internet: We are members of the Fairmont Gold club and received free internet otherwise I think it is expensive. No free internet in the lobby as seems to be the norm in China.
Service: was excellent from the front desk to the bellman. One late evening we wanted a simple noodle dinner. The doorman insisted on walking us to the nearby restaurant and made sure it was open. We asked for a taxi to the airport on departure, The bellman insisted on taking our luggage from our room to the lobby and the taxi was waiting as promised. If you can afford to have access to the Fairmont Gold lounge, it is worth it. Good breakfast, evening drinks and snacks were included. The staff in the lounge were extremely helpful and attentive. While the hotel is geared to the business traveler, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and assist with site seeing and shopping. The concierge arranged a driver to drive us to the Great Wall. While not as cheap as getting our own taxi off the street, he spoke in Chinese to the driver setting out where we wanted to go and providing the driver with the hotel phone number in case of needed translation.
Summary: Fairmont Hotels need to run their North American hotels the same way as the Fairmont Chinese hotels operate. I highly recommend this hotel.
TIP: when you arrive at the airport have the Info people write out the hotel name and address in Chinese as the hotel is new and not well known to taxi drivers.

This hotel is beautiful, extremely comfortable, and offers great amenities. The location is excellent, right by the subway and on a side street, so there's much less traffic noise than other choices. The service could not be better. I used the gym and the spa, both of which were amazing. The chef is terrific, so there is always an excellent dining in option. The concierge was knowledgeable and helpful in arranging short sightseeing outings. The entire staff makes this an outstanding stay. I will be back.
