“A big quiet green space”

I had not heard of this park until we stumbled on it while visiting the birds nest stadium. It is a huge park, apparently the largest municipal park in Beijing. It has lots of greenery, waterways, and is set up with 3, 5, and 10 km running loops. There were plenty of local people using the park but not the crazy numbers that we've seen in many of the parks closer to the city center. And it looks as if the park is set up for walking and running, not particularly for gathering to do tai chi, square dancing, etc so was much quieter. This would not be a park that a tourist with limited time would visit but would be a great place for someone in Beijing who is looking to get to some green space without hearing the usual cacophony of sounds that pervades other parks. Admission is free.

The forest park is good for those who working in Beijing for a break from city center. I enjoyed the walk around the park... the park also good for holding events or group activities, a good place for team building in the park.

The besutiful area is very large and would take all day to see completely. 3 km circuit of the lake completed in about 2 hours. Most of the lake frozen but some streams kept parts of the lake ice free and full of waterfowl. Cold day and not many people about; learnt that some like to stroll playing loud Chinese music - for who's benefit I wonder? There are different habitats within the park and look forward to a return in better weather. Smog was bad that day but not impossible. well worth a visit for exercise and pleasure, but not frsh air regretably.

I have been staying in an hotel near the Olympic Stadium so it was a pleasure to run up the pedestrianised road to the Forest Park and then follow the track around its southern and northern perimeters which is 10km in length. The track is very clearly signposted (although I did miss the turning to cross the ringroad), flat and with markers every half kilometre saying how far you have got. There were also plenty of other people around despite it being about 7.15am on a fairly cool and misty morning. There are other tracks of 3km and 5km in length. To be honest, I suspect the perimeter route is not actually the best way to see the park as I suspect the prettiest parts are within it, not around its border. However, as a running track it is excellent and gave me the exercise and fresh air I needed.

A great place to walk and run. Great road and paths and nice plants by the side. A fair amount of other people, but not packed. Clean and flat.
