“Imposing and sterile”

China National Convention Center
Reviewed 3 June 2014

The CNNC is a huge convention center adjacent to the Olympic Park and stadium. In fact, the CNCC was originally built to serve as the media center for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I've attended two conventions at CNCC now, and helped to organize another. Overall, the convention center is quite functional. It has loads of rooms of all sizes and amble areas for exhibits and booths. But the place completely lacks character and is quite sterile in most respects. Although the staff are professional, they lack any flexibility and are not particularly friendly. There is no sense of style in any of the rooms or furnishings. Everything is very costly, reflecting a mentality of the management to maximize profits. They love to capture a meeting commitment and then start gouging with increased costs for everything along the way.

I was here as an exhibitor for an educational fair. There were several other events happening at the same time and the directions and displays where well done. There was a lot going on but the staff were very helpful and very good at directing you to the correct place. The food and places to eat are great. Lounge area on the 2nd floor is comfy and cozy. There was a walkway that took me straight to my hotel, the InterContinental. Massive building with a lot of facilities and support for any events.

One of the largest convention centers that I have visited. Well run and organized. Connected by walkway to two hotels, which is handy, since you can avoid the infamous Beijing pollution.

Venue is professionally run - good security, excellent cleaning services, good toilets, good range of cafes which are affordable and range of complimentary facilities. Heating and air conditionuing was also reliable. For an overseas visitor the centre was very well labelled in English and close to various good hotels and other services.
As per all trade fairs - no matter where you are in the world - you have to look after your personal belongings.
Can recommend attending as an exhibitor.

Exhibits and largest lecture rooms in close proximity. An excellent internet lounge with comfy chairs and plug receptacles taking a variety of line cord plugs. They also serve very tasty sandwiches at reasonable prices. The staff their found and retrieved for me a pair of sunglasses I left behind. Very honest and hard-working staff!
Dislike: lack of uploadable powerpoints to the 4th floor rooms where many smaller meetings were held. Even in the presence of security guards (wearing camouflage!) and security cameras, an exhibitor's IPhone was stolen from her purse. Apparently locked cabinets are not provided.
