We took the subway out to the Olympic complex one evening to see the Water Cube and Birds Nest lit up. It took 45mins each way and we spent about 20min there as everything was closed, but it was still nice to see them lit up. Make sure you have your passport with your because you need to go through security checks to enter the complex.

Water Cube is reputed for its design and being an Olympic venue. Frankly I did'nt know how to appreciate its design except that for its exterior look that resemble wetness from droplets of large water bubble. So i decided to enjoy it for what anyone should do with it. "SWIMMING". Even for tourist , it is a easy thing to do. All one need is a swim attire , a towel and a swim cap. The changing room is well equipped with lockers for property-safety and the bathroom has all amenities to clean oneself. The delight factor is the swimming pool temperature which simulate liking to get into cool water on a sunny early morning. If one were to lingers about , the places is big and spacious ( excluding a water park which I did'nt get in), it tell a quiet story of overseas chinese residing all over the world. In fact vast lobby areas were designated to tell this story as I understood the Water Cube was built with the support of donations of overseas chinese. In appreciating their contributions, unknowingly it tell about the success and activiites of these chinese people. I had never expected a swimming stadium to be so educational.

Another very impressive building in the park where the water sport competitions took place during the 2008 Summer Olympics. Too bad we were there in the day time and did not see the light up of the building. Still worth a visit though.

Amazing piece of architecture. You have to get up close and inside this building to appreciate it. Plus stay in the Olympic Park till the evening to experience the cubes light show. When we were here the competition pool was being converted to a concert venue. The place is showing signs of wear & tear and a little odd how they have utilised some of the spaces in this huge facility.
