Stayed 2 nights at RMB260 a night plus RMB100 key deposit. Nice enough hostel with nice cafe with a decent selection of food, great coffee and a small outdoor sitting area. WIFI worked strongly in lobby / cafe but 2/10 in the room on 2nd floor. Basic room with aircon and open shower. Bed was very very hard and not the best of sleeps unless that is your thing. Sleeping on top of the duvet provided helped the 2nd night. Reception and cafe staff very helpful and speak good English. Located off a Main Street down an alley but pretty close to Dongsi subway station. A little bit of early morning (5am) noise from people cleaning and setting up a food stall and you also pick up any corridor noise so bring your ear plugs if your a light sleeper. Staff and cafe make up any shortfalls in the other areas and reasonable value for money.

If you want a cheap hotel that offers OK rooms, this is the place for you. If you want a party hostel with lots of fun, perhaps not. It is basically a cheap hotel with nice staff and good trips to the Great Wall. It doesn't have much atmosphere and is not the place to meet other travellers really. But I would probably stay again as it was a decent hostel with good staff. You know what you are going to get here.

I stayed in Happy Dragon in April 2011. Our airport pick-up was ok until it took us to the "sister" hostel of Happy Dragon. So on the first night, we did not get to stay on Happy Dragon but in its sister hostel which was basically an old hotel with the basic amenities. The next day, we were picked by the hostel service and took us to the real Happy Dragon which turned out to be a clean hostel in a convenient location near a metro station. Too bad, we started on a "different hostel" on the first night. I would recommend Happy Dragon if you get to stay in it on the first night.

The hostel reception stuff are efficient and their english is good. I had a single room which was clean and sufficient for my needs i.e. a bed and a shower. It was however noisy. My room was just around the corner from the bar and I had to wear ear plugs as the music was on until after bed time and in the morning, the cleaners were up and about. The common room / bar was small but they had a full western menu. The food I did have was good. I was so exhausted I didn't socialise with anyone else in the hostel but the times I did go past, it didn't really seem exciting. Location was good. About a 5 min walk to the local subway and about 40 min walk to the forbidden city.

I stayed at the Happy Dragon Hostel and it was decent. It's not a great hostel but it does the job. It's a bit small so there is not much space and there are not that many communal areas except the restaurant. But the restaurant is not really a hang out place since you have to buy something and it's really really dark. The rest of the hostel is also very dingy and there is little natural light.

Having said that, the location is really great, next to a metro station and only 10 - 15 minutes walk to the Forbidden City. The staff was also really helpful and nice which made the stay more pleasant. In all it was a good stay but I'm sure there are better hostels to find in Beijing.

As hostels go it was okay. We had a private room with a bathroom and it all worked as it should. Nothing particularly spectacular about them. There wasn't a kitchen you could use or an area to do your own laundry, but you could buy food on site and have your laundry done for a price.

The location is good as you can walk to the Forbidden City and Ti'annamen Square. There are lots of other restaurants in the area that are worth checking out, especially the vegetarian place just down the road or the riotous morning food market.

Staff were sometimes really lovely or quite rude, but that's just people generally I guess :)

We stayed at the beginning of our trip, 30 days roundtrip through China.
Our goal was to stay in a vibrant, attractive hostel where there are a cpl of activities scheduled and - off course - with a good atmosphere where you can meet other travellers.
In Lonely Planet, this hostel was described as a party hostel.
To be honest... Happy Dragon Hostel is NOT a party hostel.
Its decent, clean, friendly staff, i mean, its all good, but not a good place to meet other people or to have a crazy wild party.
They do make a lot of effort to make the place attractive. Staff speak quite good english as well.
Overall, i was still pretty disappointed.
