Review New Oriental Suites Beijing

An apartment at New Oriental Suites is an ideal way to spend several days (or weeks) in Beijing. The location is convenient, the management is very helpful, and the rates are an excellent value (about half as much as a business class hotel room in central Beijing).

Located an easy 10-15 minute walk east of the Dongzhimen subway station (and the adjacent Airport ABC express train terminus and the Dongzhimen regional bus station), these apartments are perfectly located for airport access and city sightseeing. Also, bus #909 to the “798” art gallery district (30 minutes east) stops very near the apartment entrance.

The apartments are in the Seasons Park/Cosmopolite high rise complex, which has tennis courts and a nice lawn area for relaxation. Security guards are present at each gate.

There is a small 7/11 convenience store adjacent to the north gate and a nice Jenny Loos supermarket (western food at western prices) 100 meters west of the south gate.

I did not see many restaurants in the area, but there is a large food court in the Ginza Mall basement adjacent to the subway station. Sanlitun area nightlife is a short taxi ride east.

The apartments are ultramodern. Mine showed a little wear, but was well-maintained. My apartment was a studio (living and sleeping area in the same room). I do not know if larger apartments are available for families. See the photos above this review.

My apartment was on the 11th floor, with a window wall overlooking treetops.

The apartment has a full kitchen, with an electric cook top, microwave, mini-refrigerator, sink, and all necessary cooking supplies and dinnerware.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a clothes washing machine, iron, and ironing board.

The sleeping/living area has a queen size double bed that is very firm (my preference) with good bed linens, which are changed twice a week.

There is a large flat screen TV with only one non-Chinese (English) channel from CCTV. There is a counter-top dining area/desk near the window wall, with one chair (ask for a second chair if needed). Closet and storage space are abundant. There is a large water cooler with safe drinking water.

The bathroom has a sink, toilet, and large shower (no tub) with good water pressure and abundant hot water. The bath towels are large, and are changed two or three times a week.

The management staff (one gentleman and two ladies) are helpful. If you are staying a week or more, they will take your passport for one hour to register it with the local police.

If you do not have a subway/bus pass, they will lend you theirs, and you can refill it or pay them whatever amount you use up.

When you arrive, ask the management how to use the cook top, exhaust fan, and climate control, since the digital controls are very modern and are not intuitive.

Finding the apartment complex for the first time can be tricky. The management will email a map with your reservation confirmation, but that may not be enough. Here are my instructions:

When arriving at Donzhimen on the subway, follow the instructions the management gives you, using exit C.

When arriving via the airport ABC express train, exit via the stairs to the sidewalk (you cannot access exit C), then walk east (the McDonalds and Ginza Mall will be across the street on your right) for about 10 minutes. You will cross a few large streets, but there are pedestrian crossing lights (watch for traffic anyway). When you come to a large colorful traditional Chinese triple gateway, cross the street (from the north side to the south side) via the pedestrian crossing light. A few feet to the east (on your left) is an alley which winds clockwise around the corner behind the buildings. The low gate to the apartment complex and its security guard will be just a few meters ahead of you.

These New Oriental Suites apartments are an ideal way to visit Beijing. Beijing can be polluted and exhausting at times, but it is always interesting and friendly. Get a good guidebook and use it to plan your own sightseeing using the excellent subway system.

I hope this is useful information. Enjoy your stay.

We stayed in an studio apartment for 6 nights. The welcome was pleasant and warm.

The apartment was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable and we could do some work at the desk (however, we had only one chair...)

Sufficient closet space for two persons. Good size bath room and nice shower. (toilet had some minor problems, but my partner managed to fix it quickly) Wifi available, but at times very slow.

Didn't use the kitchen much, but it was sufficiently equipped.
We just used the microwave and water cooker (the second needs to be replaced, as the power was constantly on and off when turned on).

The airconditioning was not always working consistently: hot, cold, hot cold...

Even though it was a clean apartment, we spotted some cockroaches (never a fun suprise!)

Location was good, it was near Dongzhimen metro station and a 15-20 min. walk to Sanlitun.

Definitely recommendable!

I stayed here for one night and I found the staff incredibly friendly. David the manager and his staff were very nice and it's definitely my place to stay when I am in Beijing. Perfect location for Sanlitun and the price is very reasonable. A great experience and I can't wait to stay again. I'd like to thank Sheila and Tracy for being so friendly.

Very convenient location to explore Beijing, about 10 min walk to Dongzhimen subway station and the Airport Express. Sanlitun Bar St is nearby and there are many restaurants in Ginza Mall and surrounding areas.

The unit is adequately spacious for two persons, complete with utilities for cooking and washing. The suites are part of the Seasons Park condominium, an upmarket community. The staff are very helpful and friendly and they speak English. It is much better staying here than at hotels - it has a more homely feel and you can fix some meals. There is a supermarket just 5 minutes outside the south gate of the complex, which provides a free delivery service. We would recommend visitors to Beijing to stay here.

I would recommend everyone to stay here. The rooms are adequately clean and with complete utilities such as a fridge, washer, iron, kitchen, toiletries, towels and a warm shower. The room was quite spacious for two people and not cramped. Wifi was reliable. The staff were also very nice, helpful and friendly. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay and the bed in one room was more comfortable than the other. But this is a minor issue for us, so no worries.

There are no signs stating "new oriental suites" anywhere though. You can use google maps to locate it, although it gives a slightly longer route. We found out that there was a shorter route which was roughly 10mins walk from dongzhimen station exit C (walk east). Right after the first stoplight after crossing shizipo street turn right. You should see a 7-11 in front..just enter the apartment complex with tall buildings inside. Dongzhimen is a transportation hub so you have no problems taking long haul trips and going to the airport.

Don't bother with a hotel in Beijing, this is much better. In a quiet gated residential block. The apartments are clean modern and comfortable. Close to Subway, and Sun Li Tun bars and restaurants. Nathan and staff are great.

The location of New Oriental Suites is perfect! The subway stop is just a 5 minute walk and you can connect almost anywhere on that subway line as well as catch the Airport Express (only a 20 min ride to terminal 3- quicker and cheaper than a taxi). Nathan was extremely helpful during our stay and was able to provide us with a private driver who took us to the Great Wall at our convenience and for a reasonable price. There are multiple convenience stories close by as well as two shopping malls with good restaurants. The security of the apartment is great and I felt very safe during my stay. I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in Beijing and will recommend it to my family and friends!
