“Excvellent hutong hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

Great location, rooms and service! Many commentators write about the difficulty finding this hotel down the Shinja Hutong so I would tell the cab driver it's near the Regent (one long block and turn down the alley at the Badabing children's clothing store with the large yellow sign.) GPS is a great device but it can get you in trouble in Beijing. The hotel room was very large with the great Swedish mattress. I really liked the hotel, its staff and the other people staying there: Chinese, French, Aussie, NZ, Spanish and me the American.

Booked a Deluxe room on a deal site which included a massage - 5 nights stay.
We were very happy to see the hotel representative waiting for us at the airport at 1.30am when our delayed flight finally arrived. This is really a great service offered.
Great hotel, great bed, great service. The room was simply beautiful, a really comfortable bed and decorated in period furniture, it was quite large with a very large balcony which you had to climb through a window to access. Great space for a couple of quite beers at the end of a day.
The bath was a bit strange, but everything worked and all the amenities were provided.
Quite liked the breakfast with a lot of Chinese options - we like Chinese options.
The hotel arranged for a car and driver to take us to The Wall and also helped us retreive my husband's jacket that he left in a restaurant in Ghost Street the previous night. Very helpful staff always there to say hello.
Good location right in the middle of a hutong which we loved. A bit difficult to get a taxi to take us there, but once they worked out that we would walk from the main street all was OK. Didn't use the metro but I believe it was closeby.
Tried the 'lamb bar-b-que' down the street for dinner as a previous reviewer suggested, but it was not to our liking. Being Australian, we found the lamb tough and expensive at RMB400 for two with a couple of beers. Much prefer the Chinese restaurant further down near the Park Plaza, great food and we only paid about RMB300.
Would go back in a heartbeat, really loved the hotel.

Room Tip: The deluxe room was wonderful.

The staff are very helpful and the rooms were clean and fairly large. The hotel is in a great location - just a short walk to restaurants, the forbidden city and the metro. The streets around the hotel were full of interesting sights.

In an unprepossessing street in one of the hutongs, this hotel is both well positioned and something of a hideaway.

Rooms (on the second floor) were very good - spacious and with interesting furnishings. In fact throughout the hotel there is a sense of space and peace, with many public areas to relax in, including a pleasant courtyard.

Staff, as in most Chinese hotels we stayed in, lack a sense of purpose and confidence, but are sweet and (when you can make yourself understood - we had immense problems with 'gin and tonic') helpful.

Room Tip: I think we had 215 and 216 - spacious, but no great views.

Not quite what we expected as this hotel is in Sanjanjing Hutong, very much within the Hutong, The pathway to the entrance of the hotel was not welcoming, though once in the hotel was good, service was very good and pleasant and it was scrupulously clean with an excellent bathroom.

We had a major issue trying to get a taxi to go out in the evening, the hotel would not call one and an even bigger difficulty getting back. taxi drivers did not seem to know where the hotel was. A bit of work is needed here, the small map given by the hotel did not help

All in an experience which I would not necessarily repeat.

About to check out after a 5 night stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, particularly Benjamin. The hotel driver was waiting at Beijing Airport Arrivals at 0200 hours as promised and even managed a smile at such an atrocious time of day. Being in a quiet Hutong is a major bonus, the sound of cars and blaring horns melts away into peace and quiet. The rooms are comfortable (the beds are amazing) and the bathroom is spacious. The breakfast selection was more than adequate, although if you have not pre-paid, expect another 98 Yuan per person. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Just returned from a week's stay at the Red Wall Garden Hotel in Beijing. I booked it on agoda.com and let me start by saying that the way the hotel presents itself is confusing. That's because there are two distinct properties: We stayed in the smaller one in the Sanjanjing hutong, 100 meters (100 yards) from the east entrace of Jangshin Park and another 100 to the south entrance to the Forbidden City. This hotel was cheap (465 yuan per night). But the thing was, when we booked we were given a confirmation that failed to explain that we had been, in fact, "moved" to the Forbidden City location. (The deceptive thing is that again, the website representes only the other, larger and more upscale, property.) That one is in the Shijia hutong. To make matters worse, there's a "Red Wall Hotel" near the Sanjanjing hutong--this hotel is not part of the Red Wall Garden chain. How to get around this? Not sure because if you too are put into the smaller place, the personnel can't handle English sufficiently to explain the difference. But do be aware! You will have problems with the taxis because of this. Otherwise I give Red Wall Garden Forbidden City high scores for having adequate rooms and a cool restaurant (with a great omelette!) and a perfect, perfect location to so many big sites--Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Mao, Tianemen Sqaure, etc. And living in the hutong was an experience (get up early and witness the denizens in their pajamas all heading into the communal toilet.)
