“Wonderful Experience for Downtown Beijing”

Really impressed with the attention to details here. The location was a bit off the main strip but great way to see the neighborhood. Nothing but great things to say from greeting to daily needs to departure.

Dear ChicagoSped:

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others in the tripadvisor community. We are so very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us!
As you saw, our hotel is conveniently located in the very heart of Beijing within walking distance of the Forbidden City and Tianamen Square - nonetheless, the fact that it is tucked away in a quiet little Hutong makes it the perfect refuge from the hustle and bustle of the capital's busy streets.

Again, thank you for your kind review - we hope you had a pleasant trip back to Chicago!

I had the opportunity to be able to stay at this very cosy and comfortable hotel in December .
The room I reserved was up to modern standards, same applies to the toilet/bathroom combination. The hospitality of the staff and the qaulity of the breakfast arrangement was A+.
The location of the hotel could not have been better: it's located near to the forbidden city and the adjecent park.

Room Tip: It's up to you. Even the budget rooms are nice (though not advisable for a family

We stayed 5 nights in the Red Wall Garden, excellent service, excellent location. Check in was fast, the room is already heated when we got in, which is a blessing as it was freezing outside. The bed is soft and comfy, which is rare in China, as most of the beds in hotels are a little too hard for my liking. The staff here is friendly and very helpful. It was a mere 5 min walk to to subway, and a quick 10 min stroll to Wangfujing. There are eateries and quaint little shops around the hotel. The courtyard is beautiful though it is a little cold to sit out for too long. Breakfast is a good mix of Western and Chinese food, though the selection is a little lacking and the same throughout our stay here. We are very reluctant to leave and actually thought of extending another day. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend this hotel!

Dear Weiniet:

It was very rewarding to read your review which I have already shared with my team.
As you can see from some of the other responses we have received, many of your fellow tripadvisor members agree with your rave review of our DUX beds. Getting a good night's sleep can make or break one's stay and is a basic hotel function often overlooked. That is why we feature only top-notch bedding in all of our rooms.
I am glad you enjoyed the breakfast as well and very much appreciate your suggestion to mix things up a bit more. We will attempt to do so and suprise you during your next visit to Red Wall Garden.

Greetings to beautiful Singapore,
Your Red Wall Garden Team

We stayed in the Redwall Duplex at the Redwall Garden Hotel for 5 nights. The driver was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived at 115am. Check-in was fast, which was a real blessing cause everyone was tired and just wanted to sleep. The two rooms were heated when we got there. Rooms were separated by a short corridor both were beautifully done. Beds were...wow! Both rooms had bathrooms attached. The kids and adults loved the rooms. Breakfast was included and was a mixture of Chinese and Western food. Good breakfast. We chose this hotel because we wanted a smaller more 'personal' hotel. The courtyard had a nice magical feel to it especially at night with the Christmas lights on. We are more that happy with our decision. We were sad to leave but hope to come back. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Dear prueinkk:

We were sad to see you leave as well! Thank you for your kind review which I shared with my team.

Yes, the courtyard has the "magic feel" at this time of year with all the Christmas lights on, especially in the evenings. Now we are only missing a light layer of snow for the holidays and we are all set :-)
Glad to hear you enjoyed our beds, which are (literally) a sore point in most Chinese hotels - other tripadvisor readers might be interested to know that all of our rooms feature top-of-the-line DUX mattresses and premium linen to ensure our guests get a good night's rest.

We are sorry you cannot be with us during our holiday festivities, but I will make sure to post some pictures of the event for you on our hotel's website (www.redwallgardenhotel.com)

We hope to welcome you back soon - thank you again for your kind words,

We had a great stay at this charming hotel. After spending a few days in Shanghai on business we wanted a more personal experience. All the staff were lovely and very helpful and spoke great english. The hotel is furnished in a modern chinese style, with some lovely pieces of furniture. Our room was very spacious over looking the courtyard, which was looking pretty lit up with Christmas lights. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice - chinese and english available. It was a 5 min walk from the metro station (which is very cheap and easy to use) and had a few restaurants within walking distance that we tried. We recommend 1929 for great chinese food and peking duck.
Our only disappointment was that the lovely bar and sitting room with wood burner was being refurbished ready for christmas, so we only enjoyed one night in front of the fire which was appreciated as it was getting pretty cold outside - thanks for the nightcap on the house, though much appreciated.

Dear jomorley:

I am glad to hear you made it back safely to the UK and enjoyed your stay with us!
Our kitchen staff was particularly excited to read about your praise of their food offerings - you correctly noted that, while we of course have Western dishes on our varied menu, we strive to also take our guests on a "culinary tour" of China and feature different selections from other provinces as daily specials in our restaurant.
But by all means, do venture out and explore the many outside dining options that are within walking distance of Red Wall Garden Hotel. "1929" is certainly amongst our guest's favorites, so you made an excellent choice there!
The subway station "Dengshikou" is indeed only a short walk away from our quiet little hutong and the cheapest and most efficient way to circumnavigate the busy streets of the capital.
As you correctly mentioned, we decided to add two fireplaces in our bar and lounge area to create a more cozy and festive atmosphere for the holiday season. They are the ideal place to warm up with a nice cup of tea or a glass of scotch after a day out in wintery Beijing!

Again, thank you for your kind review - we hope to have you back soon!

Happy Holidays,
Your Red Wall Garden Team

Spent a long weekend at the Red Wall Garden Hotel. The kindness and attention to detail of the hotel staff was exceptional. The deluxe room we were in was well appointed and had a small nook that permitted me to work and not disturb my wife. The hotel is located in a Hutong and has a traditional courtyard design which made our stay even more special. If you are in Beijing and want to stay at a hotel that does not look or act like any of the large chain hotels than this hotel is the place for you.

Dear CollegeProfessor56:

Thank you very much for your kind praise of our boutique hotel's facilities and services. All of our rooms are very spacious, but our deluxe rooms do indeed feature some additional space that allows you to "stretch out" a bit more, be it for work or leisure.
I have taken the liberty to share your review with my staff in our daily morning meeting - Lilly from the restaurant wanted me to make sure to say "hello". We all join her in wishing you a wonderful holiday season with friends and family in Tennessee!

Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back to Red Wall Garden in the not too distant future,

We chose this hotel after reading the positive comments on TA and were pleased with our choice. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff helpful. However the hotel is not within walking distance of Tiananmen Square as we thought. We booked a deluxe twin and initially we were given a double but this was quickly rectified. The room was spacious with a little balcony area overlooking the courtyard (not used in November!) and the en-suite boasted a very large walk-in shower. The beds were large and comfortable and the hotel was quiet. The restaurant is very brightly lit (typical of Chinese restaurants) so felt a little lacking in atmosphere but the food was cheap (by English standards) and very enjoyable. The menu has lots of choice (both continental and western) and staff make an effort to get to try to know everyone’s names to make you feel welcome. It doesn’t have all the polish of a western city hotel but is very nice and provides everything you need and want with comfort. It is located down a back street and as 2 women we were nervous at first of walking down it at night but it was actually ok with quite a few people about. Beijing is quite difficult to negotiate due to the language barrier and taxis are not easy to come by and those that do don’t often know where to go. The hotel provides a ‘take me to’ card for taxis and will talk the drivers through how to get there when they (inevitably) don’t know. Ours still got lost so make mental note of some landmarks! We actually found the subway much easier to use though it’s a 40 minutes to Tiananmen Square. The hotel arranged for a driver to meet us at the airport but he was unfortunately late and we started to worry about how to get there but when we called the hotel they helped sort it out and get the driver to find us based on our description of what we were wearing and where we were near in the airport. The hotel also arranged for a driver and tour guide for the day to take us to The Great Wall, the cost was very reasonable for a day rate and we highly recommend you take this option. Overall we enjoyed the hotel and would recommend it with the footnote that it is not near anything most visitors would want to see and it’s difficult to get around.

Dear Vicky,

Thank you very much for writing such a positive report about the hotel which is much appreciated by all of us. We appreciated your comments made and I always take the opportunity to inform fellow travelers on your comments:

The distance from Tiananmen Square to the front entrance of the hotel is 2.6KM so the average person would walk this in less than half an hour. This walk is actually a very nice walk through the heart of Beijing, so I am not sure what happened but do not think this is off the " beaten track" I do of course fully respect that everybody has their own opinion what walking distance is. We are also less than 1000 meters from Wangfujeng and about 500 meters from the metro station Dengshikou which can take you anywhere in the city at only 2RMB !!!! ( 30 US cents). The hotel also provides bikes which is very popular which would take you only 10 minutes …….. :)

Your point about the restaurant is well taken and you might have noticed that we have already started a refurbishment program and from January/February the restaurant is much more in line with the rest of the hotel. We have created the new bar and lounge with cozy fire places for our guests to enjoy plus we are introducing new menus. The bright light will be gone I can assure you !!!!!!

We advise all our guests upon arrival how to use taxis and yes the card we give on arrival is a very useful tool. The best reference point for any Hutong hotel is a nearby building or metro station and i our case is Dengshikou. We also advise our guests to use their mobile phone and have this spoken in message format for our guests just in case! You are right the hutong can look intimidating being narrow but always there are people about and they are actually super safe. We have never had any incidents quite the contrary. The local residents love the hotel and love to help our customers…...

The beautiful airport, terminal three, is busy and during busy times does get hectic in the arrival hall. We advise our guests what to do when using the service provided by the hotel complimentary when booking direct. We have nope amended our letter a little to be more specific when arriving so your comment is very much appreciated.

We are glad you made it home safe to London and hope to be able to welcome you back to our hotel. In the mean time I like to take this opportunity to send you our seasons greetings from a cold but very bright and sunny Beijing!!!

Robert
