It's such an extraordinary privilege to be able to stay in a part of the beautiful Summer Palace.
It's a peaceful place - a real haven in the hustle and bustle of Beijing and everything is so well done.

You can swim in the stunning pool or work out in the state of the art Technogym gym - or get up at sunrise and be let through the secret locked gate directly into the Summer Palace gardens to walk by the lake and enjoy the swallows swooping and diving.

The Aman arranges daily cultural encounters - I did caligraphy and learned to write my name with a beautiful brush in Chinese characters - and there's a daily film screening in the private cinema.

The rooms - set in courtyards - are vast and cool, with every possible amenity you could want and design which marries modern comforts and traditional elements seamlessly. The nesty beds would be especially fun to share - sadly I was by myself.

The spa is a gem and offers both Chinese and western treatments in spacious, luxurious surroundings, while the restaurants will cater for any taste.

The Aman at Summer Palace is an exquisite combination of old and highly contemporary, with both sitting harmoniously together and is highly recommended.

This is a haven just on the far end of Beijing.
Most amazing location with the outstanding Summer Palace on 700 acres as it neighbours.
Built in a traditional Chinese architecture - which unfortunately is unknown to the Modern Look of China today and with amazing customs recreated - maybe amongst one of the greatest traditional resorts to visit in China. Fabulous staff - all English speaking, most unusual in China!!!!
You can have breakfast at the beautiful restaurant next to a pond, or else just outside your suite in the courtyard or the large pond.
The most outstanding thing - not a single bug in the vast area with dense vegetation and water bodies.
Beautifully recreated luggage rickshaw carts. Paper lanterns are carried by he hosts to direct you to your room in the evening as the areas are dimly lit to give the realistic 18th century looks. Direct access to the Summer Palace 24/7.
A must must stay for anyone visiting Beijing rather than spending time in modern buildings.
The first time I had a taste of China in the last 4 visits to various places in China.

Room Tip: Must try to stay in the courtyard suites

I stayed 3 nights in February and had an amazing experience. The staff all friendly and English speaking. Very helpful and accommodating. I met with the GM on my last morning and he was quite knowledgeable and friendly, as I would expect. I planned my itinerary before arrival to maximize my time there. Their car service and Sophie, my tour guide, was great for my 2 touring days. The food was excellent and attentive staff in the restaurants. They knew what I was looking for and anticipated my service. The rooms were great, private, spacious! The private entry to the summer palace grounds is quite unique and so AMAN! I experienced the spa and pool and found it quite amazing. I loved that and every aspect of this trip. I will return should the opportunity arise!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Aman at Summer Palace. We stayed in a courtyard suite that was exquisite. It was large and authentically furnished, yet it had all the appropriate modern conveniences. Aman gets it, with those extras like complimentary mini bar items, welcome and departing gifts, and the continual care and over the top service they provided us throughout our stay. We never touched our bags from the time we arrived, never had to wait for anything, and were consistently met with smiles and a "what can I do to help you" attitude. I'm sure by now that everyone reading these reviews knows about the special door that opens directly into the Summer Palace. When we wanted to go to the Palace we called the front desk. Within 4 minutes we had a guide show up to our room who walked us to the special door and provided us with a phone to use when we were ready to return. After walking the entire perimeter of Kunming lake, we returned to "the door" and dialed the phone. Within 5 minutes we were welcomed with a smile, bottles of water and cold towels. Our meals in the Grill and Naoki were fantastic. The 10 course dinner we had at Naoki was one of the best meals we have ever had. Also worth mentioning is the wonderful breakfast they brought to our room the morning of our checkout. Since we were leaving before breakfast was served in the restaurant, they made sure we had room service arranged. They thought of it, we didn't. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Aman. Yes, it's expensive but we knew that going into it and we were not disappointed with the experience we were provided for the price. It's a place we will never forget.

The best hotel in Beijing, I have been in Beijing twice and stayed in 4 different hotels. So far Aman Summer Palace is the best place.
The room is outstanding with Ming Dynasty-styled armoires. Bed quality can't be complained. Every single details did carry Chinese spirit.
The building outside looks absolutely stunning.
Price is quite expensive but worth to try.

We booked here after staying at the Amansara in Cambodia so had very high expectations. The room was superb (though the air conditioning didn't switch off and hummed all night and there is a window with no curtain in the entrance hall so it was light from the crack of dawn) but the rest of the hotel lacks the wow factor we had expected after Amansara. The reception is cold, it could do with some candles or lanterns as it lacks that welcoming touch. It was all very nice but there wasn't the same attention to detail - as an example our minibar wasn't restocked. Sally the GM at Amansara was so attentive as were her staff but whilst people were polite they didn't have that personal touch. We're off to Amanpuri next week so hope to be reconverted to Aman.

We just stayed at the Aman Beijing for 2 nights. We have stayed at a view other Amans and have been always impressed with the service. This (2 bedroom pavilion 3.000 Us per night!!!) was a BIGTIME dissapointment. Hotel old and in need of renovation everywhere f.e our main door didn't t close !? Bathroom walls dirty with 'killed' Mosquitos. No shampoo, no conditioner only bath shower. vERY bad service: we arrived and had to carry our luggage from car to lobby our selfs! concierge has NO idea of restaurants to recommend and starts searching on the iPad! The bar/cafe at the pond has non-existing service...they made us wait 15 min for the order. Almost nobody understands or speaks English. They always have to get someone from the management.waiting times... restaurant Japanese on a Friday evening was empty. We were the only guests. It was NOT possible to get a manicure or pedicure at the SPA. Also no massages in the evening after 8 . rooms we're not cleaned until after lunch time. The whole hotel seems to be run down and lacking western management. The biggest problem is that the stuff doesn't understand English. For such an expansive hotel it is a shame what we got. We stayed the 2 days befor at the Penisula ( one room 260 Us) rooms also old, but at least super service and completely different price category (+super SPA) we really can only warn everybody to go to Aman Beijing.
