The hotel was difficult to find. We could not find it even we have walked few times along the BaoChao Hutong. Finally we asked a local resident there and problem solved. This hotel is located close to beautiful Hou Hai(manmade lakes area)where lots of restaurants and bars with live music are around. Those Hutongs around the hotel area are filled with cafe and mini shops selling different kind of interesting stuff. So this is a perfect location, not only for its 10 minutes walk back after a superb night out, but also convenient for daytime exploring the local historic hutongs. The hotel is well designed. The interior of the room is mainly in white and is very clean that made us feel extremely relaxed and comfortable. We were in the YANG room with private roof terrace, it's such an amazing experience to have enjoyed the fascinating sunset scene with nice cups of Chinese loose leaf tea provided in our room. Breakfast were delicious and beautifully presented. Staff were helpful and attentive. And it's easy to get a taxi on the main street by just one minute walk from the hotel. This is truely a great place to stay in Beijing.

Not only is this hotel charming, quiet, well-located, the staff are beyond compare. In fact, we don't know what we would have done without them. This was a family trip and while my brother was waiting for the rest of us to arrive, he had a medical emergency. Joel sent one of his staff who spoke english and mandarin with him to the hospital and sent a driver to pick us up at the airport. Try to magine going to a Chinese hospital without speaking Chinese.
Thank you , Maria
We would have extended our stay but had to move to a new hotel as The Orchid was fully booked. (make sure you book enough nights). Even once we were no longer staying at the hotel. Youngcall saw us on the street trying to get taxis. She got off her bike and stopped taxis for us and convinced them to take us (with all our luggage). We made our train with 5 minutes to spare. Without her I am sure we would have missed it.

So, behind the comfortable beds, the fluffy bathrobes, the great shower, the perfect cappucinos is a team of amazing people.

Many thanks to Joel, Youngcall, and Maria

This hotel is really hard to find. See photo of the small alley leading to the hotel entrance. It is advisable to print a very detailed map of the hutongs if you would like some adventure locating it. Otherwise, esp if you are coming very late at night, it is worth paying for an airport pickup.
Room was very nice, a mixture of modern amenities and chinese architecture. Service very adequate and they are able to provide recommendations and information to locations and food. Particularly sichuan food, which was very very good.
Bedding was very soft although there was a lot of fluff in the air in the room, not sure if its due to the dry weather.
Definitely a worthy stay in this below zero degree celsius climate, and in the company of 2 cats named bobo and niuniu.

The courtyard is well-designed with trees, pot ponds and bushes. The room is nicely-decorated and our room's main door is designed as an ancient Chinese door with door knockers. The boss is very friendly and breakfast provided was delicious. There is a huge selection of movies stored in the library for viewing. The only hiccup was that the shower area seems to get choked easily.

The Orchid is perfectly targeted at travellers who want an intimate whiff of Beijing without compromising on luxury comforts!

Travelling to the hotel is adventure in itself, tucked neatly into a little corner of a hutong, the journey there offers a peephole into the everyday lives of modern Beijing - a fascinating juxtaposition of average cornerstore shops and hip trendy curio shops and boutiques.

Stepping into the hotel, you feel you've stepped into a little oasis of comfort. The rooms are wonderfully designed to provide maximum comfort. From the bed, to the tea, to the plush bathrobes and the Apple media server ... all creature comforts that makes it hard to leave the room. It is all too easy to linger over the delicious breakfasts and coffees. Joel is a witty host ably assisted by a little team of friendly helpers! Thanks Maria for making our breakfasts so much more enjoyable.

An amazing stay. Lovely.

I had stayed in Beijing for four nights before staying at the Orchid. I didn't feel I'd actually experienced Beijing until moving to this hotel. It's set in the middle of a thriving Hutong - you're literally in the middle of the action, a real slice of the real China. The hotel itself is just divine. The detail, from the tea in the rooms, to the wooden finishings, to the amazing bed and balcony views were truly memorable. You can tell that everything was really thought through and designed to a high aesthetic. The minute you walk in you feel compelled to relax and just enjoy things. O, and the breakfast? Amazing. Huge thank you. You literally made me love Beijing.
