OK, there was some paint peeling in our Garden Room. OK, our Garden Room garden consisted of one vine growing and attached to a stone wall in the tiny entry way to our room. OK, our room, although large enough, was spartan and the bathroom was confining. But boy, did we enjoy our stay at The Orchid and if we ever returned to Beijing we would look forward to staying here again. We came and went from the hotel by walking through an authentic hutong, with small restaurants and work spaces. The entrance to the hutong is from a street which was a real slice of daily Beijing life with something for everyone. Our hutong was in a good location for exploration. But the best attribute of the Orchid was the way the staff, each of whom we got to know, opened their arms to us and made us part of their family from the moment we walked in the door until we sadly took a taxi to the airport. They helped us plan our days, they were interested in our experiences when we returned, and always seemed thrilled when their recommendations proved reliable. Our recollections of the Forbidden Palace might fade, but never our recollections of the staff and our stay at the Orchid. Hats off to them.

Simply the walk down this Hutong is amazing on it's own. This Hotel truly gives you the feel of staying I'm someones home. I don't think I would have LOVED Beijing if not for the Location of this Hotel. Staff was amazing. Room was SO cute. Breakfast was great. We even love Nwoo Nwoo the Kitty Cat! We are a family of 4 traveling with our young kids and The Hotel did all they can to make us feel warm and welcome. My only wish was that we had the ability to make coffee in the room in the morning. With Jet Lag we were waking at 5:00 AM and I can't express how badly I needed coffee. I felt for the price of the room it should have come with some kind of instant coffee, AND lastly, there is not a full length mirror to be found anywhere. I missed having that in the room. With these silly and minor things aside, The Orchid was a GEM of a Hotel and we LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!

Absolutely the best place to stay for your first visit to Beijing! We'd never travelled to Asia before, so landing in Beijing was a bit daunting. The Orchid team were entirely on hand to help with the newbie experience, collecting us at the airport, and helping us with a myriad of tasks - buying our train tickets for us, booking cabs, finding us good restaurants and providing directions to cabbies in Chinese, etc. Also the staff are very friendly and chilled out, so there is a great atmosphere. On our last evening there, the patron was running a free wine tasting for all the guests so he could try out some new wines for his menu. We made a merry party on the rooftop garden with wine in the sunny evening breeze - felt like staying with a group of totally-in-the-know buddies. Also, the diverse breakfast options were a treat. We loved it and were really sorry it was booked up for our return visit a few weeks later! Thanks team for a memorable stay!

After our 14 hour flight we were glad to stay here for four days. The staff all spoke good English, many of them came from places outside of China. Our favorite was Lilly from Senegal. They are all service oriented. The place seems lost in an alley off the hutongs, and is not easy to find, but it is an oasis in the middle of the city. We arrived early in the morning and at 10 they let us go to our room #10 had a private deck over our room. We enjoyed our breakfasts, and Mr. Shi's Dumplings across the street. We were sad to leave after touring Beijing for three days.

Room Tip: We loved our room 10

I was impressed not only on how accomodative this hotel was when we arrived, but also the interiors of the place. You would'nt expect much going into that alley, but the place is great! Simple and modern design, and very homey. We arrived in Beijing on the wee hours of December, and we could'nt stand the cold weather outside. But the people here were very nice and giving of a warm welcome. They even gave us some tips on our tour to the different places in Beijing, and provided us with a delicious banana cake and fruits during our very early tour!
We also got short of cash on hand, but thanks to this place, we were able to process online payment without any hassle.
I would definite recommend this hotel, and would also be my top choice when I go back there.
