“Cheap version of the Forbidden Palace”

Beijing Taimiao Temple

If you don't want to pay the 60 rmb to get in the Forbidden city and you want to avoid the crowds and just want to take a picture of the architecture I would advise you to come here.

It cost only 2 rmb to come here.

There are little to no people in this area. Many photographers select this area to take wedding photos of couples here because of how little people come here.

The architecture of the building seem better preserved than those in the forbidden city.

Summary-
Come here if you want to just take pictures of buildings and the Forbidden city is to expensive for you
Bathrooms- squatters but clean

I'd been to the Imperial Palace twice before, but was wandering around the Tiananmen area and noticed this park. It was quite peaceful and very well maintained (gorgeous peonies in early May). I chatted with one of the people maintaining the grounds, who had lots to say about the old trees, and there was an older gentlemen playing the Er-hu (a two-stringed lute). It was not as lively as some of the other parks I've been to (perhaps it was the 2 quai entrance fee), but there was a refined peacefulness about it, and the temple itself was a jewel. The only hubbub came from the phalanx of wedding photographers and brides and grooms who wanted to have their pictures taken in front of the temple (and I have to say, I took some pleasure investigating the temple thoroughly so as to delay some of their pictures a bit).
