The hotel is very nice and the staff helpful. Most can speak some English which helps but don't expect full conversation! :) The room was clean and comfortable, the bed was pretty good by Asian standards (they often have a hard bed). The hotel is a little hard to find, recommend having the address to print in Chinese. Being small and a boutique stay, not many cab drivers know it but this adds to the stay. About a 6-7 min walk to the nearest station. Subway in Beijing is very good and easy to use. The breakfast offered is simple with some western choices like toast, fruit salad and eggs. The best part is the hotel offers a Shadow Art show every Tues, Thurs and Sat night which is very interesting.

Unique location tuck inside the famous Hutong area. Quiet, and full with characters. Walking distance to many tourist spots. At night, you can walk to the famous Shichahai pub area, and there are plenty of good famous local restaurants to choose from. About 15 mins walk.

The nearest train station is BeiHai after cutting through the Hutong alley. The staffs are friendly and quite helpful if you need their help. We booked a double deluxe room, and it has a nice window where you can peek through the alley. The breakfast is quite simple, but it's kinda value added as most hotel don't offer breakfast in Beijing. Overall, the hotel is great if you are seeking a quiet hutong experience.

I was not as enthralled with this place as some others. It is located in interesting old neighborhood which is quiet but hard for taxis to find (they usually refused to enter the hutong area). Admittedly the metro stops are reasonably close and restaurants abound within walking distance. The hotel is quite clean and interestingly designed. The rooms are quite small as is bathroom - smallest we had in China. Little storage area. Beds comfortable. The Shadow Art show is fun and they allow you to go behind the screen afterwards to try your own performance. Service was pleasant. Breakfast was adequate, fresh, but few selections. I'd probably choose a different place next trip but can understand why others may enjoy this facility.

As all other described already in previous comments.....this hotel is a gem. Very helpfull and friendly staff. Very interesting location with heaps of restaurants and things to see and do. The drum and bell towers are in walking distance. Rooms are comfortable and has coffee and tea making facilities. Wifi works fine in the lobby of the hotel. I will absolutely recommend this hotel.

The Shadow Art hotel is excellent value for its location. It is a stylish hotel with comfortable modern rooms. It has convenient WIFI in the lounge and offers a great breakfast, which caters for most tastes.
It is only 7-10 minutes from two underground stations and the beautiful Qianhai lake and the miriad of restaurants and bars on the foreshore.
The shadow puppet show is quaint and excellent.
