The Best Western Premier Beijing was recommended by our travel company, upon checking the reviews, we very nearly changed the booking - but we are so glad we stuck with it.

We arrived at 8am and were pleased to have the room ready as soon as we arrived. The good sized room, bed and bathroom were very comfortable - just what we needed after a long-haul overnight flight. There was complimentary water, free internet, well priced minibar and ATM in English. Breakfast was good and the staff booked our tours with no fuss.

Accepted that the location is lacking but we were happy to save on the room rate and get a taxi which are was very cheap and waiting outside. Since most of the days after touring we were happy to relax in the room rather than needing entertainment on our doorstep. We had 1 taxi who did not know the location after giving him the location card/map. The hotel is a bit bland, but this is value for money and functional China.

The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The buffet breakfast has a good selection. Free internet access is available in the rooms if you have a laptop. The reception staff generally answered any queries we had although they wern't particularly friendly. We stayed in this hotel for stoppovers either side of our trip into Mongolia which was fine but the location is not particularly near to any of the cities major attractions.

Bad location with no shops or taxi stops closeby. Presumably a four star hotel but had its airconditioning switched off!!!Was told that hotel policy was to start the A/C plant only in June. With 28-30 degree c outside, this was not funny. Had to get two pedestal fans, but with windows not opening beyond six inches, this provided hardly any relief.
Breakfast was frugal, with no sugar substitute like Equal or Splendour on the tables. Food was not properly labeled for vegetarians. Staff could barely mange English.
Very cleverly, the bathroom contained a box of "paid" toiletteries, in addition to the complimentary ones. Even if you opened that box by mistake, you were slapped with a charge of RMB 48!
The bed was hard as a rock. The hotel couldn't change the mattresses but provided three comforters to make it somewhat bearable.
Room had only two sachets of Jasmine tea, with no coffee, sugar, milk, equal, or cookies.
Worst Western definitely.

  • Liked — free broadband in room
  • Disliked — absence of airconditioning in May, hard mattresses, bad breakfast with no choice of coffee, attempt to foist priced toiletteries

The Best Western Premier definitely exceeded our standards for Asian hotels. We have traveled throughout Asia staying in similarily rated (3-4 star) hotels and this by far was the best. You get a great value for your money.

We stayed there for three nights in king bed room with included breakfast. The room was great, well kept, clean and was made up everyday. The hot water was endless. Our only complaint was the air, as it never seemed to get cold enough. The breakfast was great as well. It had many western and asian choices and this is not common at many hotels.

The people behind the desk were very helpful and would write directions down in Chinese so we could give it to the taxi driver. The woman who worked as the money exchanger was ridicously slow and was not helpful in giving us small bills. The exchange rate was good, but you would have to find small bills elsewhere or break your large bills at reputable places.

We had a prebooked tour, so location was no problem as we were picked up by our driver everyday. However, the hotel is close to the Temple of Heaven, the Pearl Market and the Silk Alley Market.

Overall would stay there again. Great price for an awesome room.

Our group of relatives stayed in 6 rooms of the hotel: 2 nights on arrival in Beijing and another 2 nights before leaving Beijing.

The first 2 nights were bad. Although our tour was booked well in advance, the hotel did not manage room allocation well: our 6 rooms were spread over 5 floors! In view of this, we were upgraded to better rooms. However, although the rooms had good new facilities, we encountered numerous problems. In 3 of the rooms, the toilets could not flush properly. In 2 of the rooms, the phones did not work well. In one of the rooms, the electric kettle failed to work while in another room the electric kettle could not switch off automatically. Worst of all, in one of the rooms, a portion of the discharge pipe from the wash basin was missing! See photo attached.

Although it was said to be 4-star hotel, we were surprised that the dressing tables of the rooms we occupied had no mirrors. See photo attached. Had to make use of mirrors at the bar counter or in the bathroom.

On our second 2 nights at the hotel, we did not encounter any problem.

Breakfast was satisfactory but staff were slow in topping up the fruit juice containers.

Stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend as part of a tour group. This Best Western is NOT a "western" hotel by any standards.

First of all, everything you read below about the beds are true. If you want a preview of what they're like, take the mattress off of your bed, put a sheet on the box spring and jump on...they're about that hard. To make matters worse, all pillows are foam...I actually used a throw pillow instead, which was a bit more comfortable.

Second, the Hotel advertises a spa with a pool and exercise facilities. However, they converted the space to meeting rooms sometime last year but haven't updated their web page or brochures.

Finally the breakfast buffet had a good selection, but most of the items were cold. Omelets were pretty good.

I would not stay here again. There are a lot of great hotels in Beijing; this is not one of them. Recommend Holiday Inn Lido or one of the larger western hotel chains instead.
