never expected this sort of luxury in China. Everything was 5 star. Close to everything. Ithought it was modern contrary to some of the other reviews. Shops were frightfully expensive. Food was included with my room so I have no idea whther it was more expensive than others.

This old fashioned 5 star hotel can only be recommended to anyone who wants to relax in the centre of Beijing. Many atractions are in walking distance, the subway is really close as well as a high priced shopping amll with a good food court thiugh, the walking street which is nice, a good selection of all kind of stores, food stalls and Beijings second largest bookstore.

We got really nice service from everyone, staying here with our 3 year old son. The spa is nce and the sauna with heated up especially just for us. The breakfast is nice as well with a good selection of european and chinese food, fresh vegetables and fruits as well as homemade joghurt and you can order eggs just the wat you want them. The only difference was that at the first part of our stay we got a free fruit plate every day but at the second half we only got the waterbottles.

China Today is complementary and delivered to your room in the mornings.

The maids cMe while we went downstairs for breakfast and everything was super clean and tidy when we returned, i loved that!

Well, i enjoyed my stay here, as the atmosphere is relaxed and rhe hotel feels warm and welcoming.

Room Tip: You can get rooms with a view or an inside balconary - make your choice! The streets get pretty calm during the night so we had a good nights sleep anyways. The maid came and helped us openthe window for some fresh air and also provided extra duvets. As mentioned, the service is excellent, just ask and it will be given it seems.

I didn't actually stay at this hotel but my husband and I were having trouble getting a taxi from the Forbidden City that knew the apartment complex that we were trying to go to.

We went into the lobby to ask the concierge if they could help us with translation. The lady said that we would have to go out into the road and get a taxi. No help at all.

Disappointed, we walked back out into the cold to try again. One of the the Trainees that was within ear shot of our conversation with the front desk followed us out and said that he would help us. Not only did he stand in the street for 15 minutes in the cold to wave down a cab for us, but he translated the location and even called our landlord for directions for the cab driver. He waited with us until he was sure the driver knew where he was going. I was really touched by this and it made a world of difference in a city that seemed very unfriendly. We gave him a tip for his help and he was genuinely surprised. He didn't expect to be paid at all.

I am sorry that we didn't get his name but his kindness was so very much appreciated.

You can't get a better location to stay in Beijing, as far as being close to Tiananmen Square, or the Forbidden City. The hotel itself is well maintained, and has large rooms. The buffet restaurant was very expensive, we did not eat at it. We also hired a taxi for 8 hours through the hotel with no problems, for a day trip to the Great Wall and other temples. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a perfect location in Beijing. But, if you are looking for mind blowing luxury, look else where.

I ate in the restaurant at the Grand Hotel Beijing in Sept 2012.It was a well organised place with a large choice of food. My friend who I travelled to China with will not eat Chinese food, crazy I know and going to China but even she was able to fill her plate several times from it's international buffet. If you have stayed at a good Riu Hotel the food quality and choices were not dis similar.
However the view near to Tienanmen Square was fantastic! the colours and traffic of the city were a sight to behold. The staff were discreet but attentive. The building inside was a wonderful ornate sight and pristine.
