“Excellent Location, but consider that it's outdated and food quality”
Reviewed 19 June 2013

First, the location is phenomenal. Directly down the road from the Tienanmen Square and one side of the building looks out toward the Forbidden City.
However, the hotel needs a renovation. The carpeting in my room was lumpy and was not attached to the floor. It also was not cut to the correct size and there were seams everywhere. Made me feel uncomfortable in the room.
Also, I found the breakfast buffet in red wall cafe to be far below average, when compared to other breakfasts I had at hotels in two other cities on the same trip. The food is not heated and cooled properly and also strange taste. They Red Wall Cafe also offers a buffet dinner, which is horribly overpriced and also questionable food quality.
To be honest I might not stay here again just because I did not enjoy the food aspect and I need a reliable food source when I travel for business.
The room cleaning staff was very friendly. The Concierge tried to be helpful but they really didn't offer much of anything in terms of service. Also, complete lack of information about historical, tourist, and cultural sights. Just research it on your own.

I had an excellent and very relaxing stay at the Grand Hotel. Our huge room with beautifully carved furniture overlooked the Forbidden City. The service was excellent, as should be expected from a 5 star hotel. We also ate at 3 of the restaurants on site and all of the food was excellent. Wine selection was decent for being in China. But honestly, we didn't spend that much time in the hotel, because there was so much to see and do around it, even just within walking distance. The location really cannot be beat. I couldn't believe how affordable the rooms were either. I highly recommend the Grand Hotel Beijing.

For a five star hotel, this is quite affordable. Rooms are very spacious. Ask for a view overlooking the Forbidden Palace. Location is excellent with subway, National Museum, Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden Palace all within walking distance. Drawbacks- many people still smoke in Beijing so make sure to ask to change your room if your's smells like smoke.

never expected this sort of luxury in China. Everything was 5 star. Close to everything. Ithought it was modern contrary to some of the other reviews. Shops were frightfully expensive. Food was included with my room so I have no idea whther it was more expensive than others.

This old fashioned 5 star hotel can only be recommended to anyone who wants to relax in the centre of Beijing. Many atractions are in walking distance, the subway is really close as well as a high priced shopping amll with a good food court thiugh, the walking street which is nice, a good selection of all kind of stores, food stalls and Beijings second largest bookstore.

We got really nice service from everyone, staying here with our 3 year old son. The spa is nce and the sauna with heated up especially just for us. The breakfast is nice as well with a good selection of european and chinese food, fresh vegetables and fruits as well as homemade joghurt and you can order eggs just the wat you want them. The only difference was that at the first part of our stay we got a free fruit plate every day but at the second half we only got the waterbottles.

China Today is complementary and delivered to your room in the mornings.

The maids cMe while we went downstairs for breakfast and everything was super clean and tidy when we returned, i loved that!

Well, i enjoyed my stay here, as the atmosphere is relaxed and rhe hotel feels warm and welcoming.

Room Tip: You can get rooms with a view or an inside balconary - make your choice! The streets get pretty calm...

I didn't actually stay at this hotel but my husband and I were having trouble getting a taxi from the Forbidden City that knew the apartment complex that we were trying to go to.

We went into the lobby to ask the concierge if they could help us with translation. The lady said that we would have to go out into the road and get a taxi. No help at all.

Disappointed, we walked back out into the cold to try again. One of the the Trainees that was within ear shot of our conversation with the front desk followed us out and said that he would help us. Not only did he stand in the street for 15 minutes in the cold to wave down a cab for us, but he translated the location and even called our landlord for directions for the cab driver. He waited with us until he was sure the driver knew where he was going. I was really touched by this and it made a world of difference in a city that seemed very unfriendly. We gave him a tip for his help and he was genuinely surprised. He didn't expect to be paid at all.

I am sorry that we didn't get his name but his kindness was so very much appreciated.
