“Very good 5 star hotel in the center of Beijing!”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

That was one of the best hotel stayings in my life!
The hotel is just great: it is located in the very city centre of Beijing: a 5-10 minute walk to Wangfujing Street on one hand and Tian'anmen Square and Forbidden City on the other hand.
The hotel's personnel is very friendly and they also have their own exhange office at the reception, which is very convenient, especially considering that the exchange rates are very good. The hotel has its own swimming pool, recreational area, sauna and gym. The room was good and with a great view on the Forbidden City - although we were not supposed to stay at the room with the city view, the manager at the reception told us that the room was currently vacant and we could stay there. So, everything was just made for our comfort staying. I can absolutely say that this hotel is a very great choice!

P.S. there was only one minus during our stay - we were living at the smoking floor, and it often smellt cigarettes there.

Room Tip: It would definitely be better to ask for a non-smoking room... if they have it.

Stayed here a couple of nights, 3/14 & 3/15. Got upgraded to the next level of rooms, facing The Forbidden City! Quite an amazing view from the room. The hotel is right around the corner of Wanfujing Street, and the Wanfujing metro station (lines 1 & 5). It's also within a 5 minute walk to The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

The concierge was very friendly, providing directions to many places, and recommended several bars/clubs to go for drinks and a great vegetarian restaurant.

I'll definitely stay here again, even for longer periods of time.

The room was huge, but the carpet was filthy. Beds were OK and the bathroom was clean. It felt as tho this hotel needed a good rennovation as there were peculiar aspects to the room - ie. an alcove with what was probably once a small bar. The lighting system in the room was a mystery to us, be we managed.
All in all, we had an OK nights sleep here,

This historically 'Grand Old Lady' (physically adjoined to Raffles, Beijing and so in a great location for walking access to T'Man Square and The Forbidden City), is badly needing to invest funds into upgrading it's accommodation and guest facilities. Having stayed in 2 different rooms (both with 'Forbidden City Views' - the traffic noise (all night) was dreadful) for 6 nights and 2 nights respectively, I was disappointed that on each stay, my room was 'far below 5*' (stained and dirty carpets/curtains, faulty electrics, old bathroom fitments and plumbing and very, very hard and extremely uncomfortable beds!). As this hotel plays host to many large events (such as weddings, as well as commercial and political conferences), its 'common-areas' are 'clean, well-maintained and fresh'.
Sadly, 'staff', I found often to be 'thin on the ground' and when available they regularly had very limited or absolutely no English language skills. For such a centrally located city hotel (boasting 5* status), this factor alone, did not impress. Finally, the hotel had no 'leisure guest' facilities such as a swimming-pool etc. Therefore, overall - an acceptable hotel for a couple of nights (if visiting Beijing on business), but not a place to relax, if on a leisure trip!

This hotel is a location, location, location kind of hotel. It is literally one of the closest hotels to the forbidden city and Tienanmen square. Now the hotel is very good. The lobby is beautiful, the room are nice, but 4 stars in a good honest rating. I got upgraded to a corner room suite, with its own living room, bedroom, walk in closet and bathroom. All very nice, but nothing stood out. It was all standard Asian decor, perhaps a little dated but the view of the forbidden city (which isnt available in all rooms) was superb. Some rooms by the way are inward-facing with no windows to the outside, but instead have a porch or windows looking into an atrium at the heart of the hotel. So be sure to say if you want a view of the forbidden city or simply an outward-facing window from your hotel room. They have specific rooms with inflated prices to get this view but i'd bet that if you ask, they might upgrade you, especially if you are an American. Buffet was ok, the options were there (asian style chicken, beef, and pork) as well as pizza, rice and noodles. Definitely more asian options than american or international options, but all relatively palatable for the everyday person. The key here is again location. It was awesome. I got to do some shopping in Tienanmen square go back to the hotel to drop off my purchases and go see the forbidden city without worrying about the time.Oh, for those who care, the only English speaking channels are a news channel and HBO for TV. It is great for a few days, but i wouldn't stay there for more than 2-3 days. Although to be fair I wasn't really impressed with the city of Beijing itself. its a little dirty, and the smog is almost constant.I stand by my review of 4/5 stars.

We paid $150 per night free internet but no breakfast for a Forbidden City view with king size bed. The room was great - large with sofa and desk area, mini bar for keeping our breakfast in overnight etc. We did not need to use the hotel facilities as the location allows you to walk within 10 minutes to everything you need and it is only 5 minutes from Line 1 subway. We arrived at 8am and were given our room straight away.

Made the entire 5 day stay in Beijing a pleasure due to its location and relaxed feeling in the bedroom which was clean and comfortabls

Room Tip: We travelled to hotel from airport by Airport Express and Subway but there was no escalator on the s...

Fantastic position. Good attempt to be a five star, but you feel it does not come natural to be caring and professional. Big rooms, but the windows were so dirty you could hardly see through. They promised a terrace overlooking the Forbidden City on the website. It has been closed for four years we were told.... Unacceptable to lie like that for a five star hotel.
