“Disappointing not Peninsula standards in the rooms”
Reviewed 17 July 2014 via mobile

Lobby was great, pool fine, room needed serious up dating. Bathroom grout was gross. Loved Peninsula Shanghai. Beijing property is great location... Very high end part of the city. The rooms just need to be remodeled. Not well equipped for iPhones etc. great if you are wanting to fax. Fitness center didn't open until 6am. Great weight system. air conditioning at fitness center was in adequate. Peninsula should remodel or remove from their line.

We arrived from our flight from the US. Check in was efficient and friendly. The room was a good size and very nicely appointed. It was very clean and the staff provided ample free bottled water. Breakfasts were buffet style with excellent options to please anyone. The restaurant staff was very friendly as well. The hotel was in an excellent location and we were able to get around easily. If you go, don't miss the night market. It was a quintessential Chinese experience.

This is a wonderful hotel with top notch service. It is very close to all the attractions in Beijing.

The club level is worth the price and makes the stay even better.

Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beijing.

Room Tip: Club Level is the best!

Perhaps my expectation was set too high, but my experience at the Peninsula can only be described as "ordinary". The room is ordinary and similar to one in Holiday Inn (with triple the price). Service is surprising poor especially at the front desk; receptionists all look tired and unfriendly. My wife and I returned from shopping one afternoon and found our room key not working, we had to drag ourselves down to the lobby and were told to wait at the reception line to get our keys reissued (which took about 10 minutes and with no apologies). All in all, the hotel hardware (rooms and facilities) and software (services) are in dire need of upgrade.

On a month long trip thru Asia with family (2 teenagers & hubby) and i was very excited to stay here. To be fair, we were coming from the St. Regis in Osaka where we had a fabulous stay. But I was not expecting such a step down in room quality. We requested and received connecting rooms. The rooms were tiny and dated, not Peninsula level quality at all. There was no where to place open suitcases, and we looked out into a delapitated apartment tower and a tent emcampment in the ally below. I was pretty bummed, and mentioned it to the guide at dinner. When we got back from dinner, the manager called us and asked us what we were unhappy with, and then moved us to a higher floor with slightly larger room. The rooms were still not great, but good enough and we felt the service was on par with a Peninsula property.
The location is very good, and the hotel facilites are very nice. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The service was very good. But if you are looking for luxury, you may be disappointed.

Stayed 3 nights at the Peninsular on a trip through China. Whilst there was nothing too serious wrong with the Hotel it lacked the 'x factor' that some Hotels manage to have to make you feel special. The Hotel is in a great location and easy walking distance to many attractions much easier than driving in the horrendous Beijing traffic. The check in/out process was a little slow at both ends but the staff are all obliging. The rooms are ok but could do with a refurb. The buffet breakfast was just ok and again lacked something. The wifi which is freely available in all hotels in China was also a bit dodgy.
Probably better choices in Beijing.

Room Tip: Different to other Peninsular Hotels

Such a luxurious hotel, with vast marble staircase in the lobby, which is surrounded by top end designer stores. Everything you wanted was available. The pool (3rd floor) was lovely but the steam room is only available in the spa. The WiFi drove me crazy with frequent drop outs - IT support only available in work hours so bring an Ethernet cable and laptop. The only fault was the bath plug leaked. I secured a corporate discount which made my stay all the better! Staff were very helpful and booked flights at a sensible price equal to my web search. Would highly recommend!!

Room Tip: The views overlooking the historic house are nice.
