Stayed there on 2 separate biz trips recently. I have absolutely no complaints at all. An airport rep was there to greet me as soon as i stepped out of my flight, escorted me all the way to my waiting Merc E-class limo which took to straight to the hotel driveway where a few hotel staff were already waiting for my arrival. A lady whisked me directly to my room to do the check-in procedures & it was done in abt 5mins. My luggage was delivered to my room a few mins later. Absolutely fantastic check-in process! Room was comfy & had lots of different TV channels to cater for everyone. Location was good with a high-end mall just beside the hotel; restaurants, cinema & a small supermarket were only a few steps away within the mall. Taxis can be hard to come by during peak hours, but the staff dished out bottles of water to waiting guests in the taxi queue. I felt that this was a very nice gesture. But a subway station is just infront of the hotel (Guomao). Overall i'll definitely stay at the hotel on my next trip to Beijing.

Enough people spike English to help us when needed. The concierge was eager to help, able to exchange money at the hotel, efficiently accommodated our party of ~40 even with other hotel guests. They weren't prepared when we arrived but things got better quickly. Not sure if the restaurant is 24 hours because it was dark in there but, we did eat at 1 am. Breakfast Buffett was massive, anything you wanted was there, American and Chinese! It was also on top of a mall, close to the silk market, Tiamen Square, and nice bars and clubs.

This Shangri-La hotel makes you feel right at home in the atmosphere of ancient China. There are special lift-operators dressed in traditional style to greet you to take any one of the eight elevators. They have a special "smell" at this elevator entry which is very pleasant and welcoming. Then the rooms are nicely designed quite magical, not boring at all. I had a relatively normal standard room but felt totally at home, this does not happen often. The breakfast is great and there is also a nice cosy bar downstairs with some good wines. The gym area was good and professional, not extra-ordinary but still very good. Overall great value for money and located in CBD, walking distance to a number of offices that I had to visit.

Room Tip: If you feel more at home in smaller rooms then you do not need to chose a big one since the smaller...

We had a great experience at this hotel. We stayed for a week and found the accommodations very comfortable.

The service was exceptional and incredibly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included in our stay, and was a nice mix of western and Chinese cuisine.

The hotel sits on top of a subway stop, which was very convenient. We took the subway nearly everywhere. Very clean and easy to use. The hotel also sits on top of a high end mall, if you're interested in designer shops.

Also located in the mall is a small grocery store (BLT), I highly recommend going here for cheap snacks and beer. The hotel bar is very expensive, but you can get inexpensive drinks here!

My biggest complaint is how difficult it was to get a taxi at the hotel. Every time we wanted a taxi, there was a very long wait, which was very surprising. If you need a cab for the airport, get in line early! Even if there is no line, it can take a long time before you get a cab.

This was the second time that I have stayed at the China World Hotel. I was very impressed then but was disappointed this time round.

I had chosen the hotel for its location and accessibility which is one of its key assets. Built over a mall with all the usual designer brands and a selection of restaurants and an ice rink with a subway station that provides access to places like the Silk Market for hard bargained souvenirs, the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square is a real advantage.
The public areas in the hotel are fine and well presented, but the guest rooms are quite small and starting to show their age now, and in my opinion in need of upgrade. Maybe if you book the Horizon Club with the added facilities the quality is better!
The beds are great, but there is limited wardrobe space in the rooms. Two suits and it's full! The bathroom and walk-in shower were great and all kept spotless by the housekeeping team which you could not fault apart from their zeal in attempting to clean the rooms far too early especially at the weekends or at least mine! There was a Flat screen TV of a good size but with limited English channels. For a 5 star hotel there is limited Wi-Fi and not available in all rooms especially below floor 18 which was a pain. Even using a cable the quality of signal strength and speed varied and was often not suited for Skype.
As usual in the public areas there are plenty of staff around to assist and sometimes too many just standing around as if they are expecting a crisis to happen. The check-in and out processes were efficient particularly as I arrived in the early morning. However, don't ask questions that are out of the ordinary otherwise you are faced with blank looks and a guess on what you mean. The restaurants are quite expensive and not in my view good value compared to other Shangri La properties. Service could be improved and perhaps a smile or too would help from some of the suits (male and female) especially in the Scene A Café in the evening.
While I remain a committed fan of the Shangri la hotels and my preference when staying in Asia it will probably be the last time I stay at the China World as there are better hotels in the area and Beijing as a whole. During my previous visit to Beijing I stayed at the nearby Kerry Centre Shangri La which provided a worthy and better value alternative.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front on the higher floors were the best

It is a wonderful hotel, one of the best you will find right in the city center. Everything indicates a top-class facility: service, location, rooms and so on. Don't be surprised to find extra security once in a while due to the visit of some head of state.
Nothing to complain for, only praises.

Stayed in China World Hotel in May 2012. The hotel is part of the Shangril-la group. This hotel has been around for awhile. The decoration in the lobby is grand. Servcies provided by the staff are excellent.

Room: decoration in the hotel room is abit dated. But it serves its purpose. Bed is comfortable. Everything in the bedroom is funcational. Bathroom is large and have sufficient space.

Location: it is centrally located with Subway station underneath the hotel (Line 1 and 10). You can also get a taxi easily at the hotel or on the side street. The lower level of the hotel is conencted to the underground shopping area - may I say, high-end luxury shops like Prada, LV, Gucci, etc. There is a western-style supermarket there as well. You can take the subway to Wangfujing street or Forbidden City easily.

Restaurants: only tried the Chinese restaurant there. It is a bit pricey and the food is okay. But servcies are very good. I would recommend you go outside and try the local restaurant as you can get more out of it for the same amount of money. Plus you can experience the local food and eating cutlure. If you long for Starbucks coffee, there is one in the undergound shopping plaza. There is also a food court with multiple restaurants (both western and Chinese) for your choosing.

Gym: it is a well equipped gym with all the basic equipment. Recommend go there early or later in the evening to avoid crowd.

Overall, it is a deserving 4-star hotel which is centrally located in Beijing.
