First of all I am not a big fan of Beijing so the hotel is saving it some. One day as we look outside it is so nasty we stay in the room all day so that is a plus. The food was good and gym is ok. They have free tanning beds.
Nice beds and toiletries. I would stay here IF I had to go to Beijing again

This is a world class hotel which seem to abound in the Far East. The lobby is magnificent and in the evenings there is a trio of stunning young women playing unfamiliar string instruments accompanied by a skilled and attractive pianist
We were in a post cruise program from Crystal and many of the group chose to eat in the main restaurant at the same time.
Upon our prompt arrival we were kept waiting in an area where there was no seating for about 15 minutes. Once seated we placed the order ( for a bottle of red and one white totalling about $150) it never arrived and eventually I got up and stood at the entrance waiting for someone to help. We got our wine after about 45 minutes and this spoiled an otherwise good meal

I love this hotel. When you get in the hall you feel a wonderful smell, tipical of shangri-la. The atmosphere with the music live and the buetiful fresh flower is simply perfect.
The location is good, just 4/5 km. away from the forbidden city. If you like walking you can get there in about thirty minutes.
The rooms are very very nice, modern and well equipped.
In my opinion the best hotel in Beijing.

Stayed 5 nights for a conference outside of the hotel. Got a good deal on the Club floor with F&B credit, so got to try quite a few of the F&B outlets in the complex.
Firstly, our experience in our room and the lounge was very good.
We opted for the meet and greet at the airport and though expensive, it took away the stress of having to navigate immigration and baggage collection, and taxi transfer on our own. Hand over between our greeter as we disembarked from the plane, to our Mercedes Benz driver to reception staff at the hotel was smooth and easy. Check in was in our own room on the 20th floor where the Club lounge is as well.
They accorded morning breakfast to us the day we arrived as we were very early (much appreciated).
We were able to change our 100 yuan notes into small change at the Club lounge, and all other requests like dinner reservations, translations for the venue of my conference, some photocopy requests etc were handle with good grace and kindness by all. especially Bill, our first contact at the lounge. (Also Philip, Susan? and many others whose name we did not get) The food at the lounge was good from breakfast to afternoon tea to evening canapes (lovely cakes!).
As to the F&B outlets, we went to the Aria, Scene A and the Summer Palace which were on site. Aria's food was average at best (to be fair, we are from Australia and maybe the bar has been set pretty high) but service was great and special mention to Bernie, our waiter. Summer Palace food was good, I especially liked the subtle flavours of the buckwheat noodle with seafood, and the fish maw soup. Some items on the menu, like roast goose, was unfortunately not available. We had the seafood buffet at Scene A for dinner one night and were a little disappointed at the quality. More importantly we got to try some of the local noodle dishes at the buffet as well. We also had after dinner drinks at the lobby lounge to enjoy the Chinese music quartet that played till 9:45pm every night and the service there was very welcoming.
We had dinner at the Nadaman and the Red Chamber over at the Summit Wing.
Nadaman was expensive but served good Japanese food. Red Chamber was a very pleasant surprise; casual atmosphere with inexpensive and tasty Chinese food. We must have ordered enough for twice our number that night and ate it all! Try the mustard flavoured cabbage roll, their speciality.
The one feature we found might need looking into during our stay was the lack of available taxis. Apparently there is no system for calling taxis in Beijing. However when leaving for the airport, they did assist us by retaining one of the taxis that had done a drop off, so that by the time we reached the lobby downstairs, we were ushered directly into a waiting one.
On other days it could be a bit of a wait in the mornings.
Traffic around the hotel is quite bad, so plan your time if you have a tight schedule. Otherwise taxis are cheap and Beijing is a big city, so save your walking for after you get to your destination.
We also used the subway and bought a travel card for ease of access. But beware you will not be able to get a refund on your card/deposit easily. They told us we had to go to the terminal station for that, luckily it is only the 20 yuan deposit plus whatever credit we had left that we had to forego. The subway is good but gets crowded especially at peak hour. After a few days you learn to just squeeze in like everyone else :)
We made the trip to Mutianyu by private taxi (look up Johnny Yellow cab on line) and he will connect you with one of his associates. We had Mr Li who was very professional and on time. We paid 800 RMB for his service the whole day to Mutianyu, Summer Palace and a peep at the Birdnest stadium along the way. No shopping, as requested. Allow about 2-3 hours once at the Wall and 3 hours at the Summer palace ( a lot of walking) Travel in the taxi alone will take another 3 hours due to the traffic.

Room Tip: We had a great room facing the back (north) ie facing the Summit Wing tower and the CCTV building wh...

I have stayed in China World five times in the last 8 months. It would have been more but the trip before last it was full.
The Horizon staff team are of the best... Nancy, Phillip, Jenny, Cindy, Tony, Katherine, Chris and those names I have forgotten, sorry are like an extended family for me and their service standards are the best I have ever encountered. I have spent 75% of my time travelling on business around Asia in the last 7 years so I know good service when I see it. Felix in Aria is also a star! The room cleaning staff leave personal notes which also adds to the personalized experience.
The bedrooms need an update but the beds are great, the shower is hot and the towels are soft so no problem that the decor is 20 years old. The menu at Aria needs to be extended but that maybe because I eat there almost every day!
I love the team there and they give me the impression that the feeling is mutual.

Great hotel with marvellous interior decoration and very efficient and friendly staff. The lobby is beautiful. The hotel is quite big and there is plenty of staff around to offer help and to answer any question you might have. There are plenty of restaurants at the hotel and breakfast is truly amazing. No need to go hungry there! We stayed there for 3 nights and were really pleased with our room; very spacious, beautiful bathroom, very comfortable bed and fantastic housekeeping. The hotel's location is in a crowded business area, not too far from the city's major sights. And for those who should get bored in Beijing, the hotel is located on the grounds of a huge shopping mall. A great place to stay; absolutely recommended.
