My husband and I stayed here in August for 5 nights, overall the service was very poor like the staff were doing us a favour by letting us stay at the hotel- staff were very unfriendly. Breakfast was also of poor quality and the cleanliness of the dining room was questionable. Location was good but definitely would not stay there again if we returned to Beijing.

Bamboo Garden hotel is a located in one of the famous Beijing hutongs not far from the very center. Walking distance from the Belltower and Drumtower. The rooms are located in the back of a courtyard. Nice and guaranteed silence. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The beds are close to European standard, comfortable and the right size. The bathroom also is very clean and well equiped. Nice products, good shower and a sufficient size tub. The rooms are equiped with a good working and silent airconditioning. The hotel has a good restaurant and the menu offers a variety of tastefull dishes. In the typical bamboo garden you will also find a nice terrace where you can enjoy a cold beer or tea. The staff speaks good english but a little more friendlyness would not hurt. All in all a very nice place to stay but mind that you are in a narrow alley where taxi drivers hate to come. They can but they try to avond it. The porter however helps you out finding transportation.

We stayed for 4 nights (myself, husband and 3 kids 11years old, 12 years old and 17). Located down a quiet (read hard to find-most everyone has commented on this) lane. We got 2 rooms across the hall from each other on an interior wing. Rooms were plenty big with room for everyone to have a little space of their own. There were computers in the room and after some fits and starts we were able to access the internet on our own devices. Location is great- close to Bell Tower and Forbidden City. We loved just walking around and getting lost in the small alley ways and winding lanes. Kids loved the uniqueness of the area and all the dining and shopping options (local food, great street food and little vendors set up along main streets). Our daughter turned 12 during our stay and when we returned to the room on her birthday they had a beautiful cake waiting for us! A nice surprise - totally unexpected.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from car parking area- it seemed busy.

Based in a huntong, this is a great place to experience real Beijing life, yet staying in a quiet oasis hidden in a back street. Lovely Chinese feel to the hotel. Breakfast is only 60 yen though there's a MacDonalds nearby when you want a change, and good nightlife steps away. Disappointing there is nowhere to sit in the evening. The (nice) restaurant isn't keen on you using the terrace unless eating, and then shuts at 9pm. Beds very firm.

After a fantastic trip to China so far, and the amazing experience of the bullet train was disappointed to arrive at Bamboo Garden Hotel tonight and not be greeted by staff and be given a courtyard room overlooking an active car park!! We cannot open windows and room should not be given to guests. I am sure the rooms in the other part of the hotel, surrounded by an actual garden must be more peaceful and worth a visit. We hope to leave.

Room Tip: if you decide to come to this hotel, make sure you ask for a room in main part overlooking a real ga...

We booked a suite, which was very comfortable but sadly had no view. There were some minor problems with the lights, which flickered on and off intermittently during the night - some sort of loose connection in the control panel, probably. Helpful staff gave us a free transfer to the airport as compensation. Reception staff have good English and helped with booking taxis & restaurants.
Hotel restaurant lacked atmosphere; food satisfactory but not very exciting. We tried one breakfast (extra cost) but afterwards were seduced by Macdonalds round the corner.
The hotel is 5 minutes from a subway station - very convenient. You can walk to the Drum Tower and Houhai lake in about 10 minutes.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view on to the courtyard.

We stayed at the Bamboo Garden Hotel in August 2012, at the end of our Tran-Siberian trip, and we loved it. It is conveniently located in a nice, central area of Beijing, next to a metro station, several historical landmarks and lots of shops and restaurants. It is surrounded by atmospheric hutongs, and Houhai Lake is only a few minutes away.

We also loved the traditional courtyard and the garden. The restaurant, where we had a filling and tasty breakfast every morning, was pleasantly facing the courtyard.

We stayed in one of the traditional Chinese rooms, which had plenty of character and was comfortable, large and spotless, with a nice view of the garden.

The hotel also organises trips to the Great Wall - including to parts of the wall which are not too touristy-, and pick up from and to the airport.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would not hesitate to stay there again in the future.
