“Great Intro to China”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

We were amazed at the quality of service, the gourmet restaurants, the spa and friendliness
of all the staff. Even if you didn't speak Mandarin they tried to put us at ease.
Every staff member acknowledged us.
Breakfast every morning was a beautiful buffet with numerous stations where you could get a chef to customize your breakfast.
Rooms were huge, beds super comfy and nice large bathrooms. Everything was clean and well cared for. Thank you for a wonderful stay and friendly welcome to China.

Room Tip: Any wing room overlooking the rear gardens.

Hotel was clean and definitely like a 5 star comparable to US. Staff did not speak English only mandarin. The location is far from the center of town about a 40 min can ride and also 40 min from airport. There's restuarant and bars in hotel which is nice.

I don't know if it's just a cultural thing but I was treated like a hated foreigner during my stay. The room sat constantly at 27 degrees too hot for sleeping in Winter in Beijing. The options offered were to open the window to the expressway road noise and drop the temperature to sub-zero or be provided an air fan in the room; both noisy options.
The hotel pretends to be 5 star but just doesn't make it to 3!
Looks good but doesn't deliver. Tip---- If you do find yourself the unfortunate victim of this establishment, take a 5 minute walk to the gas station and buy your necessities such as bottled water. You'll save big. And just remember... You will be leaving soon and the pain will be over. Good luck.

Room Tip: It doesn't seem to matter.

I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. My room was clean and spacious. The restuarant served good food and the buffet was a nice spread. As I was on a tour the location did not bother me as I did not need to worry about taxis and the like. The karoke bar was very popular. My only negative was that the mini fridge in our room did not work and I asked for it be fixed but it never was. It was a shame because we had no way of having cold water and it was very hot. But overall I recommend this hotel.

Location: We were part of a 10 day tour through China that started in Beijing, so the tour company booked our entire tour group into Loong Palace Hotel & Resort. The hotel itself is quite large, with quite a lot of restaurants. We asked to fly in a day early, thinking we could do a bit of sight seeing on our own, however the location is poor and makes it impossible to see any of the sights in Beijing. The hotel itself is located quite a ways away from the cities core and historic areas, with no public transit nearby. In fact, there isn't much nearby, as we went for a walk and realized the nearest mall was at least 5KM away.

Rooms: The rooms themselves were very dated. The rooms were spacious with separate baths and showers, however it was obvious they weren't maintained very well as the caulking on the shower and tub had been obviously repaired, and done so sloppily so the caulking was built up and all over the tiles. As well, they were very stingy with the toilet paper as we ran out of toilet paper each day we were there, although we were out for most of the day everyday on our tour. The carpet was very noticeably stained and the beds were very hard, so much so that I had to ask for several extra duvets in order to make my own mattress pad to sleep on. The in room safe was far too small to put anything other than passports in, even our 13 inch laptop would not fit in it. Also, the in room safe malfunctioned one night, leaving our passports inaccessible. We had to get the front desk to unlock it for us, but they did not reset it so we could not use the safe again.

There was a kettle, fridge, tea bags, two bottles of water, instant coffee, powder creamer and sugar provided. However, they did not replenish everything everyday as we used the tea one night but were not provided any the next day.

Wifi: The wifi in the room is not free, you can pay 1 RMB per MB or 60 RMB for a day pass. In order to gain access to either, you need to let the front desk know so you can get the username and password, as well as to get the day pass started. However, their system is not very secure and you will soon realize since you can use the username/password from anywhere in the hotel, that people can easily randomly find a room that's had their wifi enabled and piggy back on it. We think that's what happened to us as we only purchased one day pass, then never used it again as we had rented a mobile wifi router that we used for the rest of our stay, yet when we left, we were presented a bill for 180 RMB in wifi charges! Thankfully after some explaining they took the charges off so we only paid the 60 RMB for the one day pass we actually used.

Amenities: There's a spa, bowling alley, night club, tea lounge, and a myriad of restaurants onsite, which is good as it's very far from anything other than a Ramada and a Super 8. However, most of the staff at the restaurants did not speak English as we had trouble ordering at almost everyone that we visited. At one of their restaurants, it took 4 staff members huddled together to figure out what we wanted between us pointing at menu items, trying to explain in English and use Google Translate. As well, their restaurants were very expensive with very small portion sizes. We left practically every restaurant in the hotel feeling hungry, but with our pocket book feeling far too light. It seemed the only staff that really understood English was the front desk staff and the concierge.

Overall, it was an emotionally and mentally taxing experience to stay at this hotel. If you're an English speaker looking to see the sights, don't even think about staying here. You will find yourself frustrated with the distance of this hotel to Beijing attractions, as well as trying to get anything from the staff here.

We stayed in this hotel again this year. It is not far from the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. There are 5 restaurants in the hotel and we have tried them all. Each is different; We especially liked the dumplings and soup at the "Little Dongbei" the croissants, pastries and bread at the "Bravo", the tradition Chinese food at the "Shanghai" and "Dragon Court". The Japanese Restaurant had great Shrimp tempura and fresh/raw fish dishes. It is a great hotel in which to hold a conference. The front desk staff and in the Bravo Restaurant many speak English but less so with the rest of the staff. However, communication isn't a big problem and a phrase book or smart phone is great for looking up mandarin words.
We have taken a taxi into Beijing and it is only $10-15 and takes about 30mins. Remember to take the hotel card with you as it has a map for the taxi driver to follow on returning. Use only registered taxis. Tours to the Great Wall, Summer Palace leave from here; book the day before.
You can also rent a taxi to these places.

Room Tip: Choose "non-smoking" with a view over the back garden if possible. The South facing room c...

We were delighted with our 7 night stay at this hotel. From entering the hotel staff were there to give warm welcome and quickly checked in .The rooms are of high standard, with fast internet. The hotel has many facilities of top standard. The restaurants were of reasonable price with a vast amount of choice. We'd stay again.
