Owner description: Once a summer retreat for emperors, this 290-acre park is still a retreat for the crowd-weary tourist, who can relax here or stroll around ancient pavilions, mansions, temples, bridges and huge lake, stopping occasionally at a shop or tea-house.

It is a beautiful place, but the crowd, the noise and irrespectful visitors, made our visit not so enjoyable

The Summer palace is breathtaking and only a short bus ride from the Jiang Guo Hotel (See my comments on the hotel).
You need about 2 hours to walk around the palace and grounds as it cover about 2.9 Sq Km. Magnificent gardens around the lakes.
It is not wheelchair friendly.

A great place for the beautiful sceneries. You can take the boat ride to get to the other side of the lake and save all the walking too.

Its a must go!

As all monuments in Beijing it's a beautiful place, but after a certain hour it's crowded with Chinese tourists.
Don't go there on a rush. It's worth to go up the pavilion for the view to the lake.
