Owner description: Once a summer retreat for emperors, this 290-acre park is still a retreat for the crowd-weary tourist, who can relax here or stroll around ancient pavilions, mansions, temples, bridges and huge lake, stopping occasionally at a shop or tea-house.

On a clear day the view across the lake would be awesome. However I think they would be few and gat between. Hordes of people but walking a little further from the main entrance and getting to see the marble boat it was quite a relaxing walk around the lake, lots to see and peonies were in flower which was lovelu.

This is an ideal place to spend at least most of a day walking and climbing to the top or boating in the lake etc.But it is sad that the tour guides usually rush you through and then take to some jade or pearl shop!!!There are separate entrance fees for different areas of the garden.A ride on the dragon boat gives you good view of the palaces from the lake. You can walk all round the lake also.

We have been to the summer palace on a cloudy day it was a bit raining, and we walked a lot of distance yet nothing was very interesting to see.

I love this place, even when it's busy.
Easy to get to on the metro, fantastic to wander around the lake or boat across it, climb the steps to reach the beautiful pavilions / temples......the spring blossom is well worth a look too.
