“Time for new flooring!”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

We stayed here for five nights in March, 2012. The hotel is in a great location, close to shopping and the metro. We could also see Tiananmen Square from our room. The breakfast was acceptable but the eating area seemed a bit on the cool side. The staff were not overly friendly. We were initially provided a smoking room although we had requested a non-smoking room. Besides the smell, the carpet was dirty and disgusting. The carpet in the second room was no better. The third room was better though the carpet still appeared dirty. We didn't want to walk on it without slippers on. This claims to be a four star hotel but we would take issue with that.

Like its inner courtyard facing rooms-down to 5th floor reasonale quality Dim Sum restaurent.Clean nice room except bathroom smell from drainpipe.Comfortable beds-nice green beans filled pillow.East facing high floor rooms have view of the Forbidden City.Standard mid size but grand enough lobby.Free wifi only at lobby coffeeshop.
Most convenient for food(important for foreigners when sick of oily/spicy/salty Beijing food)-accross road Yoshinoya, nearby McD,KFC,PizzaHut,Sizzler(in a lux shopping complex) etc--many small eateries--also on top floor of 2nd block from hotel.
Shopping everywhere-at least 1000 stalls within 100m of Hotel in 7 or 8 complexes.
10 minutes walk to Xidan train station which connects to everywhere-Beijing Zoo & cheap wholesale mart accross,Silkmarket,Tiananmen etc.
Price maybe a bit high for its standard but guess its for the prime location.

Room Tip: East facing room best view&quieter

stayed 22 to 28 Dec 2011.
There are about 9 cheap&expensive-apple,Zara etc shopping complexes near the hotel,Xidan is where the local come to shop and there are armies of them on weekends. The one opposite and next to the hotel are the cheapest with hundreds of stalls selling clothing, shoes, fashion items, electronic etc. When sick of oily/salty Beijing food, there is KFC,Yoshinoya,Mcdonald,Pizza Hut,Sizzler etc nearby-important as Hotel price RMB518/room does not include breakfast--it does has an ok Dim sum restaurent at 5th floor.
Xidan subway about 100m away,with East west line 1(to Tiananmen 1 stop,silkmarket 6 etc);North South line 4(to Beijing Zoo n Tianle huge cheap clothing/shoe mart opp,YuanMingyuan,Beijing University&electrnice city etc)
Stayed with family oldest 87,youngest 10;rooms clean ,the bath room is big enough but to close the drainpipe cover as theres some stale smell otherwise--must be fussy travellers to complain, love its greenbean filled pillows&warm blankets--nice sleep.Had one room with view of Forbidden city from 7 floor.Theres inner well down to 5th floor so dont felt congested.Free Wifi only at lobby restaurent area-a big inconvenience but bearable;just go next door and buy a 3G all in SIM card/doogle etc.
Overall good hotel, may get better rooms for the price elsewhere but not as convenient if one's aim is mainly shopping, eating and sightseeing.Theres hutongs nearby n walkable to Tiananmen.

Room Tip: Rooms facing east/Forbidden city on high floors are the best,or facing north as corridor faces inner...

I agree with Kittyhead, the main interest is: It's close to Tienanmen Square & the Forbidden City.
My opinion about this hotel is a bit so-so, it's a good hotel, lot of services, nothing really bad but it could be more confortable and clean.
People are nice, nothing to say about that.
We were unlucky because first night was very noisy in the next room, but other nights were fines.
Anyway, we were happy to found rooms here and it's close to shops, restaurants, etc..

I booked the room via www.ctrip.com for CNY368, comes with complimentary internet access with no breakfast. I choose a superior business room with river view.

LOCATION: 10 minutes walk from Beijing Pedestrian Road. Lots of convenience stores, restaurants, street food, massage/spa, night market, bars, pubs nearby. You have to walk a bit though. There is a 24 hours McDonalds right opposite the hotel. The building itself is also connected to a shopping complex. Sunway and taxis are easily available.

ROOM: Newly renovated. It is simple yet give a modern kind of look. Toilet is clean. Towels are clean and basic amenities are provided.

INTERNET: Complimentary WIFI. Connection speed is fast.

Overall, it was quite a good stay. The hotel itself is an old building. With the renovated superior business room, I will stay here again for the location and complimentary WIFI.

This hotel was filthy especially the carpets. I changed rooms 3 times trying to find a clean one but they were all equally disgusting ...

We found this to be reasonable 4 star hotel with a great location. I did not find it nearly as run down as I have read in other reviews!

Breakfast was average (mix of Chinese and Western). My Dad was thrilled that they have someone cooking your eggs as you like them in the morning.

The rooms were clean and huge.

We had a private tour guide for most of the trip so did not converse much with hotel staff. When we did their English was average. I understand that 3 star hotel's staff speak practically no English and that those at 5 star hotels are mostly fluent - so keep that in mind when booking your hotels!

After a couple of nights in Beijing we went to Xi’an (staying at the Bell Tower, another great 4 star hotel) and on our departure from China we had an additional night in Beijing at the Novotel Xinqiao (which our guide informed us is of a nicer standard than the Novotel Peace for those tossing up the two) - and personally I would choose the Guangzhou again just because it has a great central location.

I think considering we stayed here at Chinese New Year, the noise could have been a lot worse. I did think that it was very central and we were able to walk to Tianamen Square etc, and some intensive shopping is practically on your door step.

I suggest you buy your own bottled water, you can do this just outside the hotel very cheaply. As someone else said, the water at this hotel is not complimentary and it is NOT safe to drink tap water.

Really happy with my stay here and would go back again.
