This is the best restored part of the great wall. Great facilities such as cable car and toboggan. Good restaurants nearby.
At one end of the portion you can see a wild part of the wall.

Hardly any tourists in the morning, a bit of a hike to tower 23 but worth it. The cable car is definitely worth it on a hot day (costs 120b round trip)

One of the less populated, and, one of the best restored sections of the wall with beautiful views. You can either walk or catch a cable car up whilst on the way down there are options to walk, take the cable car, or, catch a luge which is loads of fun (highly recommend). As can be expected a bit of walking required along with some steep sections so dress accordingly with appropriate footwear. A few places to eat and drink at the base of the wall and also one at the top itself where you can enjoy the views.

I was here late in the day, There was hardly a person insight. In fact for a period of time it was just me and the wall. A little eerie but wonderful!

We went with a driver from our hotel, whose English wasn't perfect. So if you go to Mutianyu, you have three options: (1) Walk up and walk down. Walk up will take 45 mins if you are pretty fit. Don't do it if you don't fancy walking up around 500 stairs. (2) Ski-lift up and toboggan down. (3) Orange cable car up and down. Go early. We were on the wall by 9AM and for about 30 minutes it was empty (it was a Tuesday). The drive from Beijing took about an hour, possibly 1:15. Getting back took longer. We did, however, do Mutianyu in the morning and the Forbidden City in the afternoon and it wasn't too bad really. Definitely do-able.
