The aquarium is located within the zoo, so price of the ticket includes admission to the zoo as well as the aquarium. It is easily accessible by subway line 4, stop at Beijing zoo station. Subway ticket cost rmb2 one way.
Try not to visit the zoo during summer as it's scorching hot and most of the animals are hidden, resting near the gates of the enclosure waiting to return indoors. The aquarium is a nice place to go, but beware, once you're out of the aquarium, re-entering is not allowed even if you intend to explore the zoo area and return to the aquarium for the next show time. The staff are not your friendly type and inflexible.
Drinks and a food court are located inside the aquarium. Food price is not cheap, bring your own snacks. Check out the performance timing beforehand. Plenty of tanks housing different species, dolphins, whale and sharks etc.
Although it is not comparable top notch aquariums of other major cities, it's still a nice place to bring the kids for an educational tour. Interior is decent and surrounding is clean which I found acceptable. Weekday isn't that crowded but still you will expect to see lots of local tourists from other province which can be chaotic entering and exiting the auditorium.
