Until I arrived there, I never knew it is a hostel. It's location is central, rooms are non-noisy, staff is functional in English, travel tour desk is helpful, lounge and restaurant are fine. One must know the Chinese name of this place or you will be lost in the Beijing city wilderness even though you may be within the walking distance of it. Make it a point to have enough hotel map-cards while going out to make your return back convenient. Taxi drivers are not familiar with hotels English names.

A walk around the back of the hotel street is worthwhile along Forbidden City walls. In those small Jadis (streets) of this Hutong (cluster) is treasure-rich cultural hand shake with the native city dwellers.

Too large city to see in a short time.

Room Tip: Not sure but ground floor is better than other levels as you can easily walk to the lobby for intern...

I'm really disappointed in Beijing Jade. It still has locating going for it, but not much else. I stayed here many times in the past and it was beautiful, friendly, clean and cheap. Now it's just cheap.

First, the woman that works the night to early morning shift is a terrible employee. She sleeps on duty and if you wake her (say to check out) she acts like you just burst into her private apartment with a ridiculous request, and this is NOT an exaggeration as you can see from the other reviews here. I would say that the reviewers that didn't mention this are the ones that were lucky enough not to have encountered her.

The rooms are small and used to be clean and fresh, but most now smell of old cigarette smoke (in a hotel that is supposed to be non-smoking). They no longer have a helpful tour desk. There is a tour book up front, but the staff knows nothing about it. I ended up booking a Great Wall hike online. The breakfast is not even worth the small fee that they charge for it. The plugs in the rooms are mostly all broken. We tried several rooms, and finally found one in which we could plug in. You need to go to the lobby to get wifi--there is none in the rooms. They have wired internet, but it's nearly non-functional. Good luck getting it to work.

But, yeah, good location. Not worth it though. I'll stay elsewhere next time.

Room Tip: I looked at 5 rooms. I didn't find a good one, sorry.

Positives
1. Close by the palace and attractions - you can walk.
2. Close by a great chinese restaurant SiJi Min Fu restuarant. 5 star restaurant, Popular with locals. Must try even u r chinese.
3. Clean rooms, compared to other run down hotels at the same rate

Negatives
1. Hidden in an alley, and even the taxi driver does not know. Use google map to locate it after exiting the subway tiananmen east.
2.. No wifi in room, only in the lobby - this is a real put off
3. Unfriendly staff but this is a hostel, not a hotel.
4. Even it is close to he palace, it is far from the subway, so this is a put off if u wanto travel further than the tiananmen or wangfujing area.

Lastly, this is china, and china is big, so u need to walk a lot, don't expect in singapore or bangkok where everything stops at ur door.

Room Tip: High floors, and away from the lift.

Hotel is okay. Rooms were nice, but little small. Breakfast was poor. Good and pretty calm location, near everything. In the bar in the hotel was impossible to get service in english. But otherwise nice staff.

Stayed here as part of a vodkatrain trip and for several days afterwards. The double rooms are nice enough, and the dorms comfortable with large lockers. However, its pretty far from the transport options. Being 20 minutes away from the Forbidden City is pretty great, but being 20 minutes away from the closest train line when you have luggage, not so much. Also most rickshaws and taxi's have no clue where it is due to it being hidden down an alley.
Does offer a very cheap breakfast, where you get what you pay for, but the staff can be a coin toss. Some were really helpful, other's really didn't want to interact at all.

Room Tip: Unless you really want privacy, the dorm rooms are just as good as double rooms.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights before moving to another hotel to begin our trans-Siberian trip with our tour group. The Jade hotel was a good choice for our first 5 days in Beijing as the location was great (20 mins walk to the Forbidden city and the metro) and the price for our double room was fantastic (I think we paid about 30 AUD a night). For these two factors alone I think we'd probably stay here again if we return to the city.

The staff, however, are not helpful or kind. If you ask for advice or help with something they give you a look that reminded me of a teenager being asked to do the dishes. And our room was definitly not clean (except for the bed). There was a huge amount of dust and bits and pieces on the floor, and accumulating in the corners which showed our room hadn't been vacuumed in a very long time. And the staff didn't seem to clean our room or make our beds at all during our stay. But for the price we'd paid we didn't mind too much - we weren't expecting it to be great. One really good point I should include though, is that we loved trying the Chinese food from the hotel restaurant. It was fantastic! We went exploring for dinner a couple of times, but we ate dinner at the restaurant twice and on both occasions the food was wonderful - try the chicken and peanut dish from the Chinese menue! Generous portions for a great price.

Tip: if you are going to get a taxi from the airport to this hotel, make sure it's a metered taxi from outside at the taxi stand (they all wait in line there) and be sure to print off the hotels location on a map IN CHINESE so that the taxi driver can read it and drive you there (many of them don't speak or read English)
