This was a very good hotel in Beijing. As with many developing countries, even the top hotels are located next to abandoned buildings, as with this one. The neighborhood was not conducive to much exploration after dark. But the service was excellent at the hotel and the breakfasts were very good, located in a cafe area with an artificial lily pond and waterfall running down a wall in the adjacent bar. Atmosphere was good. Do not go to the hotel restaurants on the second floor, as they are extremely expensive, with bird's nest meals that run up to $400-500 dollars (converted from yuan). We looked at the menus and the staff were quite willing to drag us in there. No wonder there are NO customers in the 2 restaurants, with the cheaper of the 2 still TOO expensive. In spite of the neighborhood, there are 3 local restaurants that will save your pocketbook and pride and fetch you a genuine Chinese dim sum meal. We went to one with 10 people altogether and it was great food for a total of about $40.00. As an aside, expect all hotels in China to Thermo Scan their customers for fever as you walk through the front door. The Chinese are very cautious about the H1N1 and if you have a fever over 99.5 , you will most likely be forced to go to the hospital for quarantine.
