“Best location, best staff, best breakfast”
Reviewed 20 October 2011

We stay here often and are greeted by name sometimes when we arrive. Located between the Forbidden City/Tianamen Square and the shopping mecca of Fangfuging St. it is the best location possible. We enjoy foot massages at the spa but the full body massages are a bit pricey which is about the only negative item I can think of. Be warned that the government decides when heat will be supplied to the rooms during Oct, but the hotel will supply an electric heater that works well. We have been all over China and the Raffles has the best breakfast buffet we have ever had in China.

Room Tip: Building 7 has modern furnishings and Building 6 has the classic furniture. Both are excellent.

My parents came to Beijign to visit me and my Mother really wanted to do the high tea at the Raffels, so she could tell her friends back home. I arranged it and we went today. Monday October ten.

We were very disappointed! We are just normal working class people and I have seen my grandmother put out a better high tea spread than what the Raffels gave us. Basically three sandwhiches cut into nine rectangles. The bread was very dry and the fillings bland and not one bit of salad.... I mean come on. Three hungry people and you serve three sandwhiches cut into stupid boring rectangles? They were demolished in three seconds. So much for the relaxation part of eating and enjoying. Then came the scones and cakes which were nice, but then we just thought, thats it... Finish these then go. I ordered coffee and my parents had tea, but when I wanted to taste their tea and asked for a new cup, they would not give me one but said they could give me some water to rinse my coffee cup out. Eh??? And they always topped us our tea pot with hot water but never once asked if we needed more mik or sugar...... Cant think of much more to say exept they really need to rethink there whole high tea service....... Its a complete joke! Sorry Raffels.

High tea should be a non stop service of sandwhiches, scones, cakes and biscuits and flowing tea and coffee until the guests tell you they have had enough.....

We spent 2 nights here with my husband and another couple. Our rooms were nice, big and clean and I would like to mention here the extremely comfortable beds! The decor of the hotel and the room was beautiful, well, I was totally impressed. Breakfast buffet was also excellent, with local and European specialties.

The area is safe and close to everything (Forbidden City, Tienanmen Square, etc.). It was worth the price well!

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. The room was very large, so was our kingsize bed. Good shower, didn't use the bad. Good breakfast and dinner opportunities. Location is next to the forbidden city and the wangfung shopping street, metro also close to the hotel.

The Raffles in Beijing is a great hotel to stay at while in Beijing. Everything is top notch. I reserved through Amex's FHR program, which gave us a free double class upgrade (from their base room to a suite), breakfast and a dinner, and a 4pm checkout. I would recommend going through FHR if you have access to it with this hotel.

The breakfast was excellent, with hot and cold western and eastern fare. I would pass on the dinner buffet as you can get much better food somewhere else for cheaper. The front desk will cash traveler's checks (amex issued only) with a commission of $0.75 per $100, and they gave us a better exchange rate than the places at the airport.

The pool for those interested in swimming appeared to be seldom-to-never used. While this means that you will not need to compete for lane space, it also means the water has numerous hot and cold spots, and is rather cloudy. The exercise room is nice, and has treadmills, bikes and an elliptical for cardio, along with weights (free and machine) for strength training. As with everything at this hotel, the staff is great, bringing you water, towels, and fruit as needed.

Complimentary Wifi and ethernet are available in the rooms, and they provide a few outlet converters to let you plug in using any plug type. They also provide two complimentary bottles of water per day in addition to what you can get in the mini-bar.

The hotel is pricier than others in the area, but is still a great value for what you get at the end of the day.

Stayed here for 4 nights leading up to a chinese wedding. It is beautifully appointed throughout with excellent service in all areas. Room was a large suite, exceptionally quiet considering its proximity to Tiananmen square and the Forbidden City. Its location is perfect for seeing the sites, having an underground station 200yds away.
Breakfast was of the highest quality - up with the top 5 star establishments worldwide.
The lobby bar is a very comfortable place to meet in the evening with traditional music played
around 7pm.
They have a resident ambassador who is australian and is on hand to give advice and help to all guests.
Highly recommended and worth spending the extra money when staying in this frenetic city.

Being the big splurge of our summer trip, a night at the raffles is worth it, if you can take the hefty price tag. From the moment you arrive, they give you an over the top experience, with fantastic tea and if he isn't busy with something else, the manager will do all of the check-in procedure while you wait on a couch, and then personally walk you to your room. The place is much larger than it looks on the outside, and has some phenomenal decoration inside, and the rooms are fancier than anything else I have ever stayed at. Needless to say, if you can afford it, do it.
