“Excellent Service”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

As a lone female traveller on her first trip to China, it was important to me that the hotel was well located, secure, and had a reliable concierge service. Raffles Beijing exceeded my expectations and has become a ‘second home’ for any future travels to Beijing.

On my first morning, I was greeted by the hotel ambassador, John Spooner, who not only took the time to help me organise a sightseeing schedule but came with me to the metro station to show me how to buy tickets. He gave me the feeling of independence and confidence to venture out on my own but also peace of mind knowing if I needed help someone was there to assist me.

Together with the excellent concierge staff, Hank, Coolio, and Mason, they were able to organise a private excusion to Mutianyu, change my departure flights without hassle, and refund train tickets. Each morning John would sit with me to ensure I knew how to get to each sightseeing location and offer advice on how to avoid being scammed – invaluable information when you are new to a country and alone!

The staff at 33 East and the Writer’s Bar were very attentive and always made me feel welcomed.

It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Raffles and I will be sure to return.

Dear agallant,

Thank you for your fantastic review of Raffles Beijing!

It is heartening for us to read how all the little details you noted exceeded your expectations and added up to us being your “second home.” Here at Raffles we strive for being an “oasis for the well-travelled” by creating emotional luxury. We deliver our brand through thoughtful and welcoming, charming and graceful service. I cannot describe my emotions and the motivation that accolades such as yours bring to the team; whilst John, Hank, Coolio and Mason were ecstatic to be singled out by you, I am very lucky to be surrounded by a team of individuals with such passion to serve our guests.

Please let us know the next time Beijing crosses your travel plans, we would love to host you again.

Warm regards,
Chadi Chemaly – Executive Assistant Manager

we were greeted by John, the raffles ambassador. It was out first trip to china, we were on our honeymoon, and we were hoping everything would go to plan. John was unaware of our honeymoon status, regardless, the service and the help was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and such attention to detail. The food in the Chinese restaurant was superb, and the breakfast unbeatable.

Raffles Bejing is certainly incredibly well located and the past grandeur is well kept.
There's anyway something missing vs the genius loci of the "other Raffles". Service standard is high comparing to Chinese standards but average vs other Asian destinations. When I arrived there was no tea in my room (which you can find in the shabbiest of hotels) and when asked no one turned up. Breakfast was really poor: for 23€ you would expect a good breakfast and not rancid butter and old bread. Yes, I was disappointed

Dear Simolisa,

Thank you so much for the review and setting our standards high compared to other luxury hotels in China.

On the other hand, we were very disappointed to read your comments about our breakfast which ranks among the top in the city as cited by many previous reviewers and accolades in Beijing. Here at Raffles, we understand that breakfast is indeed very important and our Executive Chef is constantly looking for new ideas for our guests to start their day with an implausible breakfast. As a matter of fact, our breakfast buffet consists of an entire set of western dishes complemented with a live cooking egg station. To add to the Beijing experience, we also offer a full hot pot station complemented by an intensive Congee and condiment station. Last but not least, lays on our welcoming station our huge selection of homemade yogurts, breads and pastries prepared by our French pastry chef served along a marble top of cheeses and cold cuts as well as a huge selection of freshly squeezed juices.

Simolisa, it is sad for me to see guests of our hotel to depart with a poor perception of services and outlets of our hotel, one that strives to match and walk in the footsteps of our flagship hotel in Singapore. We hope you would be giving us another chance to welcome you back soon and I personally look forward to meet you in person on your next visit to Beijing.

Warm wishes,
Chadi Chemaly – Executive Assistant Manager

Felt so, so special from the moment we arrived: The Hotel Ambassador, John Spooner is a gem and epitomises just what Raffles is all about ; he is an absolute delight, on his knowledge of the area, whether it be cultural, shopping, or dining. Duty Manager Stefano Bellucci was excellent and very professional in all our conversations and so very friendly to chat with. Thank you, to you both!!!
We had the fortune to be upgraded to a personality suite! Double wow!! Dr. Sun Yat Sen suite (80 sq.m ) displayed a beautiful collection of original antiques ; huge poster bed, with double bathrooms. Felt so very special.
Breakfast was fantastic as too the friendly staff who where so obliging and always smiling.
The hotel is in a wonderful location, close by to shopping district, Metro and Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City was within walking distance.
Can highly recommend.

Dear J W,

Thank you so much for your kind words. Your review certainly has been shared with the entire team and we are all very appreciative you have enjoyed your stay with us. It is great to know that you enjoyed the location of the hotel and all the convenient elements we have to offer.

The venue of the wedding you attended is the Writers Bar, famed for being the oldest luxury venue in Beijing with its historic 100 years old dance floor. While we are able to transform this venue into a magical wedding scene on weekends, it remains the home for one of the most famous Afternoon Tea settings in Beijing.

I sincerely thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again in the near future.

It has been a while since we stayed at this hotel, but we were still talking about it from time to time, ranking it one of our top 3 hotels we have ever stayed.

The check-in process was very friendly and professional; the room was much larger than we expected; everything was spot clean. The entire time we were there, every time this young lady who was working at the Front Desk saw my son, she would call out to him by his name, and chat with him for a bit.

The location of the hotel was absolutely perfect. Close to Forbidden city (we walked there), right by the shopping district and subway.

Overall, an enjoyable stay!

It has now been two months since my last stay, but my experience at the Raffles Beijing was outstanding....as always! During that stay, I had the very good fortune to reside in the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Suite, an exquisite suite that is exceptionally well-appointed in the front of the building. Antique furnishings, an extraordinarily comfortable four-poster bed, two bathrooms, and a sitting room with desk all; with a wonderful view onto Chang An Avenue which leads just a few blocks to The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. As always, the staff was TERRIFIC! Mr. John Spooner completely embodies his title of Hotel Embassador always welcoming, accomodating and willing to take time to assist with the needs of new or returning guests. Ms. Suzy Su epitomizes the perfect Day Manager, tending to the needs of all hotel guests with her very warm and friendly persona. As always, the staff are exeptional throughout the hotel, from the concierge desk to the bellmen to the staff at the Writer's Bar to the chamber maids to the restaurant maitre d'hotel. It is without hesitation whatsoever that I have recommended the Raffles Beijing to many colleagues and friends traveling abroad, and based on that recommended three colleagues with be visiting near the end of June. The buffet breakfast is the best way to start the day in Beijing and a beverage at the Writer's Bar is the perfect end to a full day of sightseeing or business in Beijing. I always look forward to my stays at the Raffles Beijing and will be returning in August. Safe and enjoyable travels...
