On the plus side - fantastic location - close to Line 5 - so great for Metro and for walking to the center of Beijing. Lovely local restaurants and shops near by. Ample breakfast and good coffee - helpful staff in a wonderful area of Beijing - far down the Hutong alley (and adventure all on its own) - AC worked well - wifi was free, although a bit weak. On the minus side (if you can call them that) - laundry was arranged at RMB 20 an item - rooms were a bit noisy if guests came in late - could do with some painting and fixing up.

Was there for 3 nights and loved it - would go back again.

Enjoyed the experience staying at this Hotel, but beware! Do not take notice of reviews that are 3 or 4 years old. Hotel has obviously been run down in the last few years & could do with a facelift. Airport Shuttle service worked to pick us up from airport, but had to get a taxi on departure. Advertised laundry service did not exist, nor were staff interested in helping to to locate a nearby service. (if you do not speak the local language it is very hard to make yourself understood even with a translator app in the hutongs) On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast reasonable and the location excellent, being in walking distance to the forbidden city & Tianeman Square. Restaurants of good quality abound within 300 metres of the hotel and public transport is close by

The bathrooms are new and clean, the atmosphere is nice in the garden for breakfast and reading, breakfast has several choices. The hotel is close to Dongse subway station, it is quiet and little noise.

Pros: friendly staff, continental options for breakfast, clean, working AC, good wifi, good location although far down an alley way, free bike rentals

Cons: small breakfast buffet doesn't have many options, shower isn't great and just 'part of the bathroom' (not uncommon in Chinese hotels' bathrooms), rooms are quite small so a tight fit - apparently you pay for it being 'authentic' (furniture etc) but the furniture looked pretty standard to me.
Strange story to add; friend was in a room where the door didn't close and moved into another room that had suitcases in it - they moved those into her old room and started scraping wood off the door to make it fit into the frame... hm....

This is a stunning little hotel. Hidden away down the Hutong's this hotel feels a million miles away from mad rush that is Beijing. We had rooms in the courtyard area and it really was a picturesque, tranquil place to sit and read.

It is very traditional, don't expect mod cons in western hotels but I found the staff very helpful, the rooms charming and breakfast a relaxed but welcome addition.

A little tricky to find, we walked from Dongsi Subway off the Dongsi South Street. It is further down the Hutong than the maps function on iPhone suggests.
