Owner description: Dating back about one thousand years, these neighborhoods of narrow, twisting streets represent the “real life” of Beijing, where passageways connect to courtyards of traditional compact homes. Pedicab tours of the hutongs are popular tourist attractions that normally include the Drum Tower, courtyard neighborhoods and Prince Gong's mansion.

“The Tourists' Hutong”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Nanluoguxiang is one of the most visited tourist destination in Beijing. It's located exactly at Nanluoguxiang MRT Station. You can find wide range of snack from yogurt, milk tea, to fried chicken fillet (Shihlin), and also lots of souvenir shops (expect high price tags). It's a very nice and lively place to visit all day long. I visit this place whenever I'm in Beijing and not in a rush.

“Lost the taste of old Hutongs...”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

It used to be the oldest and most charming Hutong in Beijing until it was renewed as a commercial street for tourists. Along the 2.5-km walk, you can see shops, shops, shops and cafes, cafes and cafes, besides restaurants and restaurants....
One thing worthy a trip here is Wenyu Yogurt Shop (文宇奶酪店). The waiting line can last for meters and it is, what I think, only thing left about the Old Beijing absent in this renovated Hutong.
There's a Starbucks if you are tired of walking.
At the south end of it, you can find the famous Black Sesame Kitchen.

“Too commercialised”
Reviewed 11 June 2014 via mobile

The street leading to the Hutong sells trendy and cool bits. However at the Hutong, although the buildings looked traditional they were actually far from it. Shops selling food and drink and souvenirs. They were also repeated further down the street - the same juice shop, the shop selling churros etc etc. Found it too commercialised and would prefer to visit a more traditional Hutong.

“Very Commercial ”

Love and hate this place ... When not a long weekend ... I enjoy the photography aspect of this place. On a long weekend. OMG ... Wall to wall humanity. Be prepared to push shove and get lost in the crowd.

“Great for photos”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

This is a great area to take photos, but it is a more commercialized hutong. They even have a Starbucks halfway down the street. There are a variety of shops/eateries all along the street. The subway station is at the south end of the street, so it is easily accessible. The subway is easy to use (instructions also in English) and trips are 2 RMB. It beats sitting in traffic, in my opinion. Just get a subway map from your hotel and ask which stop you need to get to. I would highly recommend walking to Yandaixie (skewed tobacco street and wander around the quaint hutongs and Houhai)
